New York is a state in the Northeastern United States and is the United States' 27th-most extensive, fourth-most populous, and seventh-most densely populated state. New York is bordered by New Jersey and Pennsylvania to the south and Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Vermont to the east. The state has a maritime border in the Atlantic Ocean with Rhode Island, east of Long Island, as well as an international border with the Canadian provinces of Quebec to the north and Ontario to the west and north. The state of New York, with an estimated 19.8 million residents in 2015, is often referred to as New York State to distinguish it from New York City, the state's most populous city and its economic hub.
With an estimated population of nearly 8.5 million in 2014, New York City is the most populous city in the United States and the premier gateway for legal immigration to the United States. The New York City Metropolitan Area is one of the most populous urban agglomerations in the world. New York City is a global city, exerting a significant impact upon commerce, finance, media, art, fashion, research, technology, education, and entertainment, its fast pace defining the term New York minute. The home of the United Nations Headquarters, New York City is an important center for international diplomacy and has been described as the cultural and financial capital of the world, as well as the world's most economically powerful city. New York City makes up over 40% of the population of New York State. Two-thirds of the state's population lives in the New York City Metropolitan Area, and nearly 40% live on Long Island. Both the state and New York City were named for the 17th century Duke of York, future King James II of England. The next four most populous cities in the state are Buffalo, Rochester, Yonkers, and Syracuse, while the state capital is Albany.

Rosenblum's consulted for stations across the country and around the world, and yet he believes the model that's kept local news alive since the 1950s is broken, and the only way to repair it--drastic changes in the way news stations operate--just won't happen. Rosenblum tells LocalNewser's Mark Joyella local news is like GM: sticking with a recipe that put them on top five decades ago, but will drive them to bankruptcy today.
PLINKO POETRY MACHINE- An interactive playful installation by Deqing Sun and Inessah Selditz. With roots in The Price Is Right and experimental blackout poetry- every player can be both a winner and a poet! Drawing source text from current @nytimes and @FoxNews tweets, players can absurdly re-contextualize news headlines that are often overloaded with meaning. The interface of Plinko Poetry uses Processing to display alternate scrolling lines of current tweets from the New York Times and Fox News. When a user drops a chip, it randomly hits pegs on the way down. The word under each peg that is hit is highlighted, with the untouched pegs automatically darkened. Plinko Poetry uses openFrameworks camera color tracking to determine which pegs have been encountered. When the chip comes to a...

You know how when you're studying history, and you're reading along and everything seems safely in the past, and then BOOM you think, "Man, this suddenly seems very modern." For me, that moment in US History is the post-Reconstruction expansion of industrialism in America. You'll learn about the rise of Captains of Industry (or Robber Barons) like Cornelius Vanderbilt, Andrew Carnegie, John D Rockefeller, and JP Morgan. The first part of a 24 hour journey to Manila on an Emirates Airbus A380-800. Sorry about the shakiness and poor focus! I was just learning how to use DSLRs. Although it was a 2 hour layover in Dubai, Emirates (as usual) was late and they had to bus us to the gate. If we walked we were told it would take us 20 minutes. Dubai International is absolutely huge. Overall, Emirate's service more than makesup for any lateness. It was truly an enjoyable experience. Inspired by do-it-yourself Halloween costumes, Warren traces the evolution of her photographic work, from impromptu goofs to more elaborately art-directed portraits. “Seeing what I’m capable of with the resources that I have, it’s just fun for me,” she explains. “I especially like the grosser or weirder it can be from me but—not just covering m...

As a person with anxiety, she wants to fight the stigma that is often associated with mental illnesses. Of course, I was enlisted as her partner in crime to make this all come to life. So here it is after a year of researching, shooting and editing: a collection of our findings about how New York is handling Mental Health and what we can do to help fight that stigma. It's time to shed some light on Mental Health and we're glad we can contribute to the movement with this documentary. -------------------------------- 5/19/2016 - Won 1st place in the Social Justice/Science Category at Baruch College's Creative Inquiry 5/31/2016 - Official Selection (May 2016) Holly...

Get more Tips here! www.destinationtips.com New York is recognized as a cultural and political epicenter. That makes it an endlessly fascinating and endlessly dangerous place to hang out. So here, for your consideration, are 5 Tourist Traps To Avoid When Visiting New York. 1. Don't Go to Times Square Sorry, but it sucks now. Big money has turned Times Square into a big, shiny outdoor mall. There are better, more unique places than national chains and it’s worth taking the time to seek them out. 2. Don’t Go Up The Empire State Building Skip it; the lines are awful and the cost to get past them is a ton. Instead, check out one of New York’s awesome other tall buildings with rooftop views; you can even grab a few drinks at a rooftop bar. 3. Don’t Eat Street Food It’s either poorly prepared...

The confines of Chinatown are inhabited by a hundred a...

This is the third episode of our independent „A Taste of ...“ time lapse series. In September 2016 we visited this awesome city to try out some new time lapse stuff. It took us 10 days, a lot of burgers and one helicopter ride to produce this video. 10 days is very little time to discover this city of endless opportunities, so we hardly slept anything and shot day and night for this time lapse film. The city that never sleeps indeed! The Taxishot: Over the 10 days we took photos of yellow cabs whenever we had time to from as many different angles as possible. So we gathered 2000 (!) photos in total we had to sort afterwards and compile to a hyperlapse around a cab in post production. It took us 5 whole days in post production to get this one shot. Technical Details: In 10 days we shot 65...
A 3.5+ hour tour of New York City (NYC), focusing on the borough of Manhattan, the city’s historic birthplace, economic and administrative center as well as the most densely populated of the 5 boroughs that make up NYC. A technical issue on Youtube's end is causing the video to play for only 15 minutes instead of 3 hours and 40 minutes on most viewing platforms such as mobile phones, tv streamers and even desktops. Until Youtube resolves the issue with this original video, you may access this link for the alternate full video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2tPwFs1CrJY The film chronologically progresses from early morning to the small hours of the night, showcasing daily life around Manhattan. - Early morning up to 10 AM (0:00 - 24:07) - Daytime from 10 AM to 2 PM (24:08 - 1:45:37) ...

Right after the job, he took his camera and strolled through the bustling streets of „The City“. While screening the pictures of a drummer in the tube station, I had the idea of creating a „remix“ of the recorded drum sequence to use it as a soundtrack for the film. That´s when our sounddesigner Toussaint came into play... W...
As a filmmaker living in New York for the first time, I'd grab my Canon 7D and shoot footage of what was going on around me, to try and take in all that was happening. To try and capture the sense of community I felt in a place so large and diverse. The HDSLR was a great tool for this. It allowed me get in among people and crowds but at the same time not draw attention to myself. It seemed like a never ending project and you could stay filming life in New York for a long time. But eventually I put my camera down and started to edit. Here's the end result, it's a bit rough and tumble but that's life in the Big Apple I guess. Turn up the volume or put your in earphones for the beautiful song 'We Don't Eat' by Irishman James Vincent McMorrow. For those who asked these are the lens I used...
Paris & NY, like many large cities, have a lot in common ; transport, infrastructure, national monuments. I wanted to explore not only these comparisons but also the differences, in order to expose the beauty and individuality of each. What you cannot deny is the vibrancy and explosion of character each city has and I thought split-screen with timelapse would be a good way to help convey this. Created for OpenSkies, the french airline specialist on the Paris-New York route. My bachelor graduation project „New York Biotopes“ deals with abstract plants and creatures, which change their forms because of insufficient living space and adapt themselves to the surroundings of the metropolis New York City. A type of metamorphosis, where the newly developed vegetation assimilates elements of the city and makes them useful for their own purposes. These creatures and plants, partly mechanical, partly organically in appearance, spread more and more over the city and fill it up with life. My idea was to create a film, that fills up the metropolis New York with vegetation, that adapts to the straightness of the technology and the given situation. This happens through the assimilation of structures and forms. These biotopes are shaped by the existing living environment, bu...
My cinematic approach of capturing this beautiful city. I've been to NYC for 7 days and I decided to bring my camera with me and what can I say.. I fell in love with this city. I hear the train all night
Sound of its wind blowing through our subtle lives
And I have a job to do walking these cars
Walking all asleep to get to you
But I don't feel your stir beside me
And your not in my morning hour
Some ties are made to break
Some stalks grow high and green to run away
And feel the wake
And these lines tell the truth
These city veins answer all you do
So could you keep me in the pulses
Could you keep me in the sound
I got wise and I got old
Not once, not once did I fall
So don't you know
Maybe you bet on me
While we were still young enough to know
Or to believe
For every year you took
For every soft breathe or loving look
Believe me
And don't keep me like you have me
And don't kiss me like you don't
I got wise and I got old
Not once, not once did I fall
So don't you now
Some land holds a home
Some of my years only hold me to Rome
But I tell myself its true
You see a home you see a man
You see it too
And I say don't you know you have her
Go on kiss her now you boy
I got wise and I got old
Not once, not once did I fall
So don't you now
I got wise and I got old
Not once, not once did I fall
