Paradise Lost: Shadows and Wings is a musical work of theatre, with music by composer Eric Whitacre, lyrics by Whitacre and David Noroña, and book by poet Edward Esch, set in two acts. The innovative music combines styles of opera, musical theater, cinematic music, as well as electronic music techniques of trance music, ambient music, and techno to portray the story of an abandoned tribe of angels in search of their wings. Although it has various non-classical influences, it is meant to be performed by singers with operatic or musical theater backgrounds.
The musical begins with a prologue set years before. The angels of light leave their children behind a rock wall in preparation for the battle with the forces of darkness. The children are left without wings, which leaves them unarmed and mortal, until the war has ended. The angels of light promise to return soon, with wings and to bring the children home.
Seventeen years later, the angels of light still have not returned. Logos and his henchman, Ignis, two of the many angel children who were left long ago, are creating a powerful army by engaging the tribe in nightly combats. This vigorous training is conducted because of Logos’s belief of a darkness beyond the wall.
Paradise Lost are a doom metal band that formed in 1988 in Halifax, England and are considered by some to be one of the pioneers of the doom metal genre and of the gothic metal genre. Paradise Lost has proven to be an influential band, with Jonas Renkse of Katatonia saying that his band started off "as Paradise Lost fanboys".
Their line-up has remained stable for such a long-standing heavy metal band, consisting of singer Nick Holmes, guitarists Greg Mackintosh and Aaron Aedy, and bassist Steve Edmondson. Holmes and Mackintosh are the principal composers, with almost all of the band's songs credited to them. During the years, the band has only changed drummers.
After their formation in 1988, Paradise Lost released three cassette demos, Paradise Lost, Frozen Illusion, and Plains of Desolation, before being signed to Peaceville Records in 1989. They recorded their debut album, Lost Paradise, at Academy Music Studio in December of that year. The album was released in February 1990.
Paradise Lost 2: Revelations is the 2000 sequel to the documentary film Paradise Lost: The Child Murders at Robin Hood Hills, about the trial and conviction of three teenagers known as the West Memphis Three accused of murdering three young boys in a Satanic ritual abuse.
In Paradise Lost 2, Bruce Sinofsky and Joe Berlinger visit support groups for Damien Echols, sentenced to lethal injection in the first film, and revisit John Mark Byers, who is facing gossip about his possible involvement with the murder of his son. Echols is appealing his sentence and his defense attorney notices what he believes to be bite marks in a photograph of the face of one of the victims; the prosecution argues that the marks are from a belt buckle and not teeth.
The three boys convicted in the first film are all tested and do not match the alleged "bite marks" on the victim. The support groups for Echols want Byers to have his bitemark compared to the one on the photo, but Byers has had false teeth since four years after his son's murder. Byers gave the Defense copies of his dental records and they didn't match the "bite marks" either. Byers takes a polygraph to prove his innocence but is on a variety of medications that could affect the outcome of the test, including Xanax and Haldol; he passes the polygraph test.

Damien Echols makes a chilling statement about the Arkansas Department of Correction in an interview with Amy Goodman for Democracy Now. Chilling Statement: I knew [the prison officials] could have had me stabbed to death in that prison any day of the week for fifty dollars.
Damien Echols was pegged as the leader of the West Memphis Three. He spent 18 years in prison, 10 years in solitary confinement and 78 days on death row... all for a crime he swore he did not commit. Wretched will, host of pleasure surreal
Closed the room where the last is buried
Rise or fall at your master's request
You're unable to accept redemption
I don't know about a true belief here
With the "lost" it's the same as always
All I want is the same, a true belief
You can't wait to become a memory
With the "weak" it's the same as always
Stand confused lack of comprehension,
Re-aroused by a thought of madness
And I know that the truth is always right
But it's time to search for lies
You're the one I try to save
But the blood spills from your veins
Call counting time till the end
Death's wicked smile never fails
The curse is cast, you've lost the past
Forevermore, a candle burns here no more
I don't know about a century of life
When the love of generations die
I can see no good in taking your own life
When any moment death calls...
