TN growth has stagnated under
AIADMK rule:
Stalin
In the past five years of AIADMK rule,
Tamil Nadu’s growth has stagnated and it has been ranked 20{+t}{+h}in the list of developed
States, said DMK treasurer
M.K. Stalin during his campaign in and around the city on Friday.
Addressing voters in Singanallur, Sundarapuram,
Pollachi and other areas, he said that the lack of progress had pushed the
State backwards by 50 years. The result was that TN suffered on all fronts – agriculture, industrial development and education.
Taking pot-shots at
Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, Mr. Stalin said that she had on a number of occasions passed through Coimbatore to
The Nilgiris, but she did not even once meet the industry and trade representatives to hear their grievances.
During the previous DMK regime (2006-11), multi-national and
Indian companies chose to invest in Tamil Nadu. Then Coimbatore was a bright star on the investment horizon. But in the past five years,
Chief Ministers of Karnataka,
Madhya Pradesh and others had visited Coimbatore to entice industrialists with offers to invest in their respective States.
Mr. Stalin said he wanted to know from Ms. Jayalalithaa if she had implemented the promised mono rail scheme in Coimbatore and doubled farmers’ income, established the 10 textile parks or implemented schemes announced in the
Vision 2023 document.
She had announced single-window system for issuing permits for industrialists to set up factories. This had not materialised in the five years. She had promised information technology parks in all districts. This too did not materialise, he said and pointed out many such schemes that, he claimed, were not implemented. For Tamil Nadu to change for the better, the voters should vote for the DMK and only then could the people see progress, he added.
