Caesar Achellam

Caesar Achellam was a Major General in the Lord's Resistance Army until his capture in 2012.

Affiliation with the LRA

Achellam joined the LRA voluntarily in the late 1980s after fighting for the Uganda People’s Democratic Army (UPDA), a rebel group in northern Uganda that preceded the LRA. He had formal military training, and periodically served as an instructor in military training drills for LRA combatants. Achellam also spoke Arabic, a skill he used in helping to manage the LRA’s strategic relationship with the Sudanese government in Khartoum.

Prior to Achellam’s capture, his relationship to Joseph Kony was uncertain. For years, Achellam’s group operated in close proximity to Kony’s group, but Kony placed Achellam under house arrest in mid-2007 because of his opposition to seriously engaging the Juba peace negotiations. Achellam had instead urged Kony to reconnect with the Sudanese military officers in South Darfur. Vincent Otti, then Kony’s ranking deputy, convinced Kony to pursue the peace talks, and openly accused Achellam of having received money from the Sudanese without disclosing it to Kony. However, following Otti’s execution in late 2007, Kony exonerated Achellam and reinstated his status as a senior commander. Achellam was taken into custody by Ugandan military forces near the CAR/Congo border in May 2012.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes

Rise of the Planet of the Apes is a 2011 American science fiction film directed by Rupert Wyatt and starring James Franco, Freida Pinto, John Lithgow, Brian Cox, Tom Felton, David Oyelowo, and Andy Serkis. Written by Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, it is 20th Century Fox's reboot of the Planet of the Apes series, intended to act as an origin story for a new series of films. Its premise is similar to the fourth film in the original series, Conquest of the Planet of the Apes (1972), but it is not a direct remake of that film.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes was released on August 5, 2011, to critical and commercial success. The film was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Visual Effects. It was also nominated for five Saturn Awards including Best Director for Wyatt and Best Writing for Jaffa and Silver, winning Best Science Fiction Film, Best Supporting Actor for Serkis and Best Special Effects. Serkis' performance as Caesar was widely acclaimed, earning him many nominations from many associations which do not usually recognize performance capture as traditional acting. A sequel to the film, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, was released on July 11, 2014, and a third film to follow, titled War for the Planet of the Apes, is planned for a July 14, 2017 release.

Caesar (Kent cricketer)

Caesar (birth and death dates unknown) was an English cricketer recorded as having made one first-class appearance for Kent in the County Championship of 1828. Caesar played a single innings in his only appearance, scoring 47 runs against Surrey at Godalming starting on 16 September. Kent took an innings victory so Caesar, who came in at number nine in the batting order, only batted once.

Caesar (cocktail)

A Caesar or Bloody Caesar is a cocktail created and primarily consumed in Canada. It typically contains vodka, Clamato (a proprietary blend of tomato juice and clam broth), hot sauce and Worcestershire sauce, and is served with ice in a large, celery salt-rimmed glass, typically garnished with a stalk of celery and wedge of lime. What distinguishes it from a Bloody Mary is the inclusion of clam broth. The cocktail may also be contrasted with the Michelada, which has similar flavouring ingredients but uses beer instead of vodka.

It was invented in Calgary, Alberta in 1969 by restaurateur Walter Chell to celebrate the opening of a new Italian restaurant in the city. It quickly became a popular mixed drink within Canada where over 350 million Caesars are consumed annually and it has inspired numerous variants. However, the drink remains virtually unknown outside the country.

Origin

The Caesar was invented in 1969 by restaurant manager Walter Chell of the Calgary Inn (today the Westin Hotel) in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. He devised the cocktail after being tasked to create a signature drink for the Calgary Inn's new Italian restaurant. He mixed vodka with clam and tomato juice, Worcestershire sauce and other spices, creating a drink similar to a Bloody Mary but with a uniquely spicy flavour.
