A film festival is an organized, extended presentation of films in one or more cinemas or screening venues, usually in a single city or region. Increasingly, film festivals show some films outdoors. Films may be of recent date and, depending upon the festival's focus, can include international and domestic releases. Some festivals focus on a specific film-maker or genre (e.g., film noir) or subject matter (e.g., horror film festivals). A number of film festivals specialise in short films of a defined maximum length. Film festivals are typically annual events. Some film historians do not consider Film Festivals as official releases of film, like Jerry Beck. The best known film festivals are the Venice Film Festival, the Cannes Film Festival, the Toronto Film Festival, Sundance Film Festival, and the Berlin International Film Festival, the latter being the largest film festival worldwide, based on attendance. The Venice Film Festival is the oldest major festival. The Melbourne International Film Festival is the largest film festival in the Southern Hemisphere and one of the oldest in the world. A 2013 study found 3,000 active films festivals worldwide—active defined as having held an event in the previous 24 months.
A cello sonata is usually a sonata written for solo cello or small instrument ensemble. The most famous Romantic-era cellos sonatas are those written by Johannes Brahms and Ludwig van Beethoven. Some of the earliest cello sonatas were written in the 18th century by Francesco Geminiani and Antonio Vivaldi.
(The following list contains cello sonatas with or without accompanying instruments. See the See also list for more comprehensive lists divided up into solo and accompanied works.)
The following list (inevitably incomplete) tries to place the major sonatas and equivalent works for cello and piano or cello solo in chronological order of completion. It will be susceptible to uncertainty of dates, and whether original or revised versions are definitive.
The cello (/ˈtʃɛloʊ/ CHEL-oh; plural cellos or celli) or violoncello (/ˌvaɪələnˈtʃɛloʊ/ VY-ə-lən-CHEL-oh;Italian pronunciation: [vjolonˈtʃɛllo]) is a bowed string instrument with four strings tuned in perfect fifths. It is a member of the violin family of musical instruments, which also includes the violin and viola.
The cello is used as a solo musical instrument, as well as in chamber music ensembles, string orchestras, as a member of the string section of symphony orchestras, and some rock bands. It is the second-largest bowed string instrument in the modern symphony orchestra, the double bass being the largest.
Cellos were derived from other mid- to large-sized bowed instruments in the 16th century, such as the viola da gamba, and the generally smaller and squarer viola da braccio, and such instruments made by members of the Amati family of luthiers.
Cello parts are generally written in the bass clef, but both tenor and treble clefs are used for higher-range parts.
A person who plays the cello is called a cellist or violoncellist.
A film, also called a movie, motion picture or photoplay, is a series of still images which, when shown on a screen, creates the illusion of moving images due to the phi phenomenon. This optical illusion causes the audience to perceive continuous motion between separate objects viewed rapidly in succession. A film is created by photographing actual scenes with a motion picture camera; by photographing drawings or miniature models using traditional animation techniques; by means of CGI and computer animation; or by a combination of some or all of these techniques and other visual effects. The word "cinema", short for cinematography, is often used to refer to the industry of films and filmmaking or to the art of filmmaking itself. The contemporary definition of cinema is the art of simulating experiences to communicate ideas, stories, perceptions, feelings, beauty or atmosphere by the means of recorded or programmed moving images along with other sensory stimulations.
The process of filmmaking is both an art and an industry.
This is a list of existing major film festivals, sorted by continent.

Medley of themes from the "Stranger Things" series, originally by Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein. Featuring my good friends Adam Caulfield and Katherine Pernal! Like many others, I was captivated by the "Stranger Things" series when it came out earlier this year and fell in love with its exciting storytelling, engrossing set design and unique blend of creepiness, nostalgia and heartwarming moments. The music adds such richness to the show and I wanted to showcase its strength and versatility in this medley. Enjoy! Huge thanks to Adam and Katherine for bringing their talents to this project (and playing all the hard parts), and a special thanks to the friends who recommended this show to me! Edit (December 21, 2016): All sounds in this video were made using a cello. There are actually eigh...
Strings (2011) by Alexander Chen visualizes the first Prelude from Bach's Cello Suites. Using the math behind string length and pitch, it came from a simple idea: what if all the notes were drawn as strings? Instead of a stream of classical notation on a page, this interactive project highlights the music's underlying structure and subtle shifts. View interactive piece at http://www.baroque.me. Denmark Produced by Two Penguins Productions Directed by Daniel Fickle Shot on the Canon 5D through a 50 gallon aquarium in my backyard… Pily lives a pastoral life at the bottom of Oregon's Willamette River. He tends to his underwater crops in solitude and proves to be resourceful. His home is built from flotsam and sunken debris. Seemingly content in the world he has built for himself, Pily is actually addled by a premonition, a pre-knowledge that an invasive element is going to displace him. To prepare for the worst Pily devises an escape plan… Be sure to check out "Catching up with Pily" http://vimeo.com/23703765 to see what the little nondescript crustacean has been up to since "Denmark" Official Selection of SXSW, Cinequest, Atlanta, International Film Festival of Canada, Ashland ...
Short docu/music video showing the creation of a track using only a cello to make the sounds and then manipulating those sounds in Ableton Live. I quite obviously can't play the cello very well but as long as you can make noise with something, you can make a song from it! This was a purely experimental track and video, we had no plans or outline of what we would do, we just went into the space, I made noise and Alan filmed it! Music & Graphics by Adam R. A House, A Home When Adam Shearer from the band Weinland was approached to write a song for a benefit album he chose to write about James C Hawthorne, a 19th century Portland, Oregon physician who is remembered most for medical reform and his kindness to patients. Shearer enlisted the help of Adam Selzer (Norfolk & Western) and they wrote A House, A Home, a song that led to the formation of the band Alialujah Choir. This video begins at the last lines of A House, A Home and is about a love, a death, and another death that are reconciled in a subterranean world. music: Alialujah Choir (featuring Portland Cello Project) winner- Best Short Film, United Kingdom Film Festival, 2012 winner- Best Score, Australia Short Sharp Film Festival, 2012 winner- Best Music Video, International Film Fe...
I thought it would be a fun project to write and record a pop tune using nothing but cellos, then make a video of the performance. The original goal was to keep everything entirely acoustic, with no recording studio effects or other processing. I quickly abandoned that idea to get more variety of sounds, but everything you hear was played entirely on my cello. There are 37 separate cello parts recorded on 23 tracks using 37 plug-in effects. I don't know if I should be embarrassed to admit I spent hundreds of hours on this project, or proud to have paid so much attention to detail. You be the judge.
Let the kitchen fire grow cold
Let the ancient winter blow
Let the running river go its way
See it move on by
Let the geese refuse to fly
Twist and tumble from the sky
Let the wintry fingers try our door
It's open, come on in
Chorus:
All the world may turn to stone
The sun may sink into the sea
But there will still be only one love
In this world for me, for me
Verse 3:
And if the cello has no string
It will always fail to sing
And if a man is without love
He'll surely fail in living every day
Repeat chorus:
Repeat verse 3:
And if I'm without your love
