Human rights are moral principles or norms, that describe certain standards of human behavior, and are regularly protected as legal rights in municipal and international law. They are commonly understood as inalienable fundamental rights "to which a person is inherently entitled simply because she or he is a human being," and which are "inherent in all human beings" regardless of their nation, location, language, religion, ethnic origin or any other status. They are applicable everywhere and at every time in the sense of being universal, and they are egalitarian in the sense of being the same for everyone. They require empathy and the rule of law and impose an obligation on persons to respect the human rights of others. They should not be taken away except as a result of due process based on specific circumstances; for example, human rights may include freedom from unlawful imprisonment, torture, and execution.
Human Rights Watch (HRW) is an international non-governmental organization that conducts research and advocacy on human rights. HRW headquarters are in New York City with offices in Amsterdam, Beirut, Berlin, Brussels, Chicago, Geneva, Johannesburg, London, Los Angeles, Moscow, Nairobi, Paris, San Francisco, Sydney, Tokyo, Toronto, Washington, D.C., and Zurich.
As of June 2011, the organization’s annual expenses totaled $50.6 million.
Human Rights Watch was founded as a private American NGO in 1978, under the name Helsinki Watch, to monitor the former Soviet Union's compliance with the Helsinki Accords. Helsinki Watch adopted a practice of publicly "naming and shaming" abusive governments through media coverage and through direct exchanges with policymakers. By shining the international spotlight on human rights violations in the Soviet Union and its European partners, Helsinki Watch contributed to the democratic transformations of the region in the late 1980s.
Americas Watch was founded in 1981 while bloody civil wars engulfed Central America. Relying on extensive on-the-ground fact-finding, Americas Watch not only addressed perceived abuses by government forces but also applied international humanitarian law to investigate and expose war crimes by rebel groups. In addition to raising its concerns in the affected countries, Americas Watch also examined the role played by foreign governments, particularly the United States government, in providing military and political support to abusive regimes.
View full lesson: http://ed.ted.com/lessons/what-are-the-universal-human-rights-benedetta-berti The basic idea of human rights is that each one of us, no matter who we are or where we are born, is entitled to the same basic rights and freedoms. That may sound straightforward enough, but it gets incredibly complicated as soon as anyone tries to put the idea into practice. What exactly are the basic human rights? Who gets to pick them? Who enforces them—and how? Benedetta Berti explores the subtleties of human rights. Lesson by Benedetta Berti, animation by Sarah Saidan.

Human rights may be based upon values that have ancient origins…. but this does not mean they are static and never changing. If we can track progress in the past, can we also imagine it in the future? Shabas challenges us to think about what our human rights will look like in half a century. Professor William A. Schabas is professor of international law at Middlesex University in London. He is also professor of international human law and human rights at Leiden University, emeritus professor of human rights law at the National University of Ireland Galway and honorary chairman of the Irish Centre for Human Rights. Professor Schabas holds BA and MA degrees in history from the University of Toronto and LLB, LLM and LLD degrees from the University of Montreal, as well as several honorar...
Sign up for my newsletter to keep up to date: https://www.politicalislam.com/signup/ Islam claims to have the supreme ethical system in the Sharia. Exactly, what is the system of Sharia and how does it compare with the UN Declaration of Human Rights of 1948? Under the Sharia: • Humans are not equal • Critical thought is rejected • Torture is allowed • Only Muslims have the right to life • There is one law for Muslims, another law for Kafirs • Children can be brides • A Muslim woman cannot marry a Kafir • Apostates can be killed • There is no freedom of speech • Inbreeding is encouraged • Wife beating is allowed Conclusion: Sharia rights are inhuman and inferior to the UN Declarations of Human Rights. At least 31 members of an ISIS-linked terrorist group have been killed in the Philippines. Martial law was introduced earlier this week on the country's second biggest island, after the terrorists swept through the streets causing carnage. The introduction of martial law is, however, sparking fresh fears of human rights violations. We interviewed two experts who are split over Duterte's anti-terrorism policy. AN UPDATE on 9-13-15. I wrote about this class L97 at video #50 at PL4 at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC3-RWtlOIS_k_TbVkYj_c5Q/playlists. It's called TOUCHING 1000 GIRLS BOOBS IN PUBLIC (in Russia) and I synced it to “I wish they all could be California girls” because it seems like everybody is easier than they are, (I wrote about mercy for California below and a homie's OJ on Ca at classes L94 https://vimeo.com/39845641, 17 https://vimeo.com/47268934, 168 https://vimeo.com/30036665 and LA at 169 https://vimeo.com/30629125). That video #50 proved that Euro porn, (that can be so mean to me), does NOT represent all Euro women, (thanks for the 2nd base ladies), but the main message was, (the end of the Cold War and that), Euro porn does NOT represent Europe just like USA porn does NOT re...

After my own personal events of the last 2 years where my basic human rights (my right to speak freely, my right to wear what I wanted, my right to go wherever I wanted) were taken away from me by a very bitter divorce and custody battle for my 2 year old little boy by the High Court of Justice in London, I decided to do a series of images and a video in 2012 based around the basic freedoms women crave and to show that even in a free society, we can still be silenced. The video portrays a woman writing reminders on her body of the basic freedoms we all fight for. Shahbaz is a young boy who is compelled to help his parents to make a living. He's only 11 and he never went to a school nor will he ever make it to one. Human rights in Pakistan need attention.
"Man shall not live by bread alone
Lay not up your treasures upon earth"
Thousands listen to the master's words
Thrown to the wind 'cause their hearts were not present
People don't believe in miracles anymore
Human Rights
"Some foreign organization might be supporting you"
Lights, camera, stampede and looting
The powerful men and the saints wanted the leader
(Where are the) Human Rights?
The followers lost faith
Many who dreamt of power are destroyed
The press is a daily vampire
Street kids steal and they are mistaken
For the apostoles
During the riot an extermination group of policemen shoot
both
Lords and slaves want everything easily
Human rights
Clubbing and kicking
Blindfolded eyes
Human rights
