A New York State assemblyman from Queens was walking down the street when he saw a woman being robbed.
The assemblyman played high school football in the Bronx and college football upstate, and it served him well Thursday.
"It was a crazy day," State Assemblyman Ron Kim said.
It was a crazy day for two-term Assemblyman Kim who found himself redefining the term constituent service, detaining a would-be purse snatcher on a busy Flushing sidewalk.
Moments earlier, he'd turned the corner as a woman with an infant was trying to chase the man down.
"I have a nine month old baby and all I could think was my wife walking the streets every single day and it happening to her," Assem. Kim said.
The man ducked into an office building, and for a moment Kim lost him and got on the phone to call 911.
But then, a Good Samaritan spotted the suspect, now wearing different clothes, and he charged up Main Street.
The assemblyman was still on the phone with police as he tackled him.
He says it's given him real-life insight into key policies to enact in Albany.
"It was obvious, I think he had a mental problem, and I do feel that we should definitely make an effort to make sure individuals like him get the help that they need and get them off the streets," Assem. Kim said.

Jerry McNerney
Gerald M. "Jerry" McNerney (born June 18, 1951) is an engineer, energy specialist, and the U.S. Representative for California's 9th congressional district, serving in Congress since 2007. He is a member of the Democratic Party. The district, numbered as the 11th District until 2013, is based in Stockton and includes parts of San Joaquin County, East Contra Costa County, and southern Sacramento County.
McNerney holds a Ph.D in mathematics.
Early life, education, and business career
McNerney was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the son of Rosemary (née Tischhauser) and Col. John E. McNerney. He is of Swiss and Irish descent. He attended St. Joseph's Military Academy in Hays, Kansas, and, for two years, the United States Military Academy at West Point. After leaving West Point in 1971 in protest of U.S. involvement in the Vietnam War, he enrolled at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, where he received bachelor's and master's degrees and, in 1981, a Ph.D. in Mathematics, with a doctoral dissertation in differential geometry.

Chad Mayes
Chad Mayes is an American politician currently serving in the California State Assembly. He is a Republican representing the 42nd district, encompassing parts of Riverside and San Bernardino counties. Prior to being elected to the state assembly, he was a Yucca Valley town councilmember.
Background
Mayes earned a Bachelor of Science in Government from Liberty University. Before entering public service, Mayes worked as a financial advisor and tax preparer.
Town council
Mayes served on the Yucca Valley Town Council from 2002-2011, and was twice elected by the council to serve as mayor.
In 2004, Mayes and then-councilman Paul Cook voted against a proposed 42-percent pay increase for town elected officials. In his final budget as Mayor, Yucca Valley spent $8.7 million, a slight decrease from the previous year, and had over $5 million in reserves.
In 2011, Mayes resigned as a member of the town council to focus on his responsibilities as Chief of Staff to San Bernardino County Supervisor Janice Rutherford, saying he found it "difficult to keep up with the basics of serving as a council member," and that "Yucca Valley deserves a council member who will give them 100 percent every day."

Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo
Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo is an American all-male drag ballet corps which parodies the conventions and clichés of romantic and classical ballet. The company was co-founded by Peter Anastos, Natch Taylor and Antony Bassae in New York City in 1974, producing small, late-night shows, in off-off Broadway lofts. Their first show was on September 9, 1974, at a second story loft on 14th street, in the heart of the meat-packing district. The current artistic director is Tory Dobrin.
After receiving a favorable critical review in The New Yorker by Arlene Croce, it was discovered by a wider audience. The "Trocks" toured the world, with prolonged engagements in many major cities. In 2008 they performed at the Royal Variety Performance, in front of Prince Charles.
The dancers portray both male and female roles in a humorous style that combines parodies of ballet, posing and physical comedy with "straighter" pieces intended to show off the performers' technical skills. Much of the humor is in seeing male dancers en travesti performing roles usually reserved to females, wearing tutus and dancing en pointe.

But then, a Good Samaritan spotted the suspect, now wearing different clothes, and he charged up Main Street.
The assemblyman was still on the phone with police as he tackled him.
He says it's given him real-life insight into key policies to enact in Albany.
"It was obvious, I think he had a mental problem, and I do feel that we should definitely make an effort to make sure individuals like him get the help that they need and get them off the streets," Assem. Kim said.
