Falafel is a very typical quick meal in palestine, we usually eat it while we're standing. just fill your loaf of bread with falafel, add Tahina sauce, and some vegetables, and your typical arabic quick lunch is done:)

Hello you!
Today I'm making my Fattet Batenjan, a Palestinian layered dish with roasted eggplant, garlicky yogurt and toasted pita. It's delicious as a complement to other plates, or eaten by itself, hot or cold. My family often makes this for large gatherings and it has been a hit with my American friends.
It is so simple to make and so delicious. Many of our dishes are made from humble ingredients that come together to make something fantastic.
This is my first try at a food video. I'm excited! If you enjoyed this, let me know in the comments!
Ingredients:
1 large eggplant (depends on your baking dish size)
EVOO, Salt
~1.5-2 cups plain yogurt
Juice of 1/2 lemon
3-4 cloves of garlic
garlic powder (optional)
2-3 whole wheat pitas / pita chips
small bunch of fresh parsely (optional)

Palestinian culture is comprised of a blend of Eastern Mediterranean influences. Being Levantines, Palestinians share commonalities with nearby Levantine Arabs (Lebanese, Syrians, and Jordanians). Palestinians, although Arabized today, are genetically an indigenous Semitic (non-Arab) people which descended from the native Canaanites/Phoenicians and thereby mixed with their conquerers (Philistines, Hebrews, Egyptians, Babylonians, Assyrians, Greeks, Romans, Byzantines, Persians, Arabs, Crusaders, and Ottoman Turks).
Over half of Palestinians are in diaspora, and found outside of Palestine. The population of Jordan is 2/3 of Palestinian heritage. Most Palestinian refugees can be found other Middle Eastern countries, and North and South America. Many are also in Europe.
Language: Arabic (official), Aramaic, Hebrew, and Armenian. Most Palestinians speak Levantine Arabic, a dialect of Arabic spoken in Syria, Palestine, western Jordan and Lebanon. Palestinian rural dialects exhibit several distinctive features (particularly the pronunciation of qaaf as kaaf) which distinguish them from other Arabic varieties, but Palestinian urban dialects more closely resemble northern Levantine dialects, i.e., those of Syria and Lebanon.
The Bedouins of Palestine, however, are more securely known to be Arab by ancestry as well as by culture; their distinctively conservative dialects and pronunciation of qaaf as gaaf group them with other Bedouin across the Arab world and confirm their separate history.
In a number of villages in the Galilee (e.g. Maghar), and particularly, though not exclusively among the Druze, the qāf is actually pronounced qaaf as in Classical Arabic.
Religion: Currently, no reliable data are available for the worldwide Palestinian population. But an estimated percentage suggests 60% Muslim (mainly Sunni, but also a few Sufis), 30% Christian (predominantly Greek Orthodox, Roman Catholic, and others) and 10% Other (i.e. Druze, Baha'i, Jewish, Samaritan, etc).
However, within the West Bank and Gaza Strip, according to the Palestinian Academic Society for the Study of International Affairs, the (non-Jewish) Palestinian population is 97% Muslim and 3% Christian; there are also about 350 Samaritans and a few thousand Jews.

"Palestinian territories" and "occupied Palestinian territories" (OPT or oPt) are descriptions often used to describe the West Bank (including East Jerusalem) and the Gaza Strip which are occupied or otherwise under the control of Israel.Israeli governments have maintained that the area involved is within territorial dispute. The Israeli–Palestinian conflict (Arabic: النزاع الفلسطيني - الإسرائيلي al-Niza'a al'Filastini al 'Israili; Hebrew: הסכסוך הישראלי-פלסטיני Ha'Sikhsukh Ha'Yisraeli-Falestini) is the ongoing struggle between Israelis and Palestinians that began in the mid-20th century. The conflict is wide-ranging, and the term is sometimes also used in reference to the earlier sectarian conflict in Mandatory Palestine, between the Jewish yishuv and the Arab population under British rule. Falafel is a very typical quick meal in palestine, we usually eat it while we're standing. just fill your loaf of bread with falafel, add Tahina sauce, and some vegetables, and your typical arabic quick lunch is done:)

Today I'm making my Fattet Batenjan, a Palestinian layered dish with roasted eggplant, garlicky yogurt and toasted pita. It's delicious as a complement to other plates, or eaten by itself, hot or cold. My family often makes this for large gatherings and it has been a hit with my American friends.
It is so simple to make and so delicious. Many of our dishes are made from humble ingredients that come together to make something fantastic.
This is my first try at a food video. I'm excited! If you enjoyed this, let me know in the comments!
Ingredients:
1 large eggplant (depends on your baking dish size)

Palestinian culture is comprised of a blend of Eastern Mediterranean influences. Being Levantines, Palestinians share commonalities with nearby Levantine Arabs (Lebanese, Syrians, and Jordanians). Palestinians, although Arabized today, are genetically an indigenous Semitic (non-Arab) people which descended from the native Canaanites/Phoenicians and thereby mixed with their conquerers (Philistines, Hebrews, Egyptians, Babylonians, Assyrians, Greeks, Romans, Byzantines, Persians, Arabs, Crusaders, and Ottoman Turks).
Over half of Palestinians are in diaspora, and found outside of Palestine. The population of Jordan is 2/3 of Palestinian heritage. Most Palestinian refugees can be found other Middle Eastern countries, and North and South America. Many are also in Europe.
Language: Arabic (official), Aramaic, Hebrew, and Armenian. Most Palestinians speak Levantine Arabic, a dialect of Arabic spoken in Syria, Palestine, western Jordan and Lebanon. Palestinian rural dialects exhibit several distinctive features (particularly the pronunciation of qaaf as kaaf) which distinguish them from other Arabic varieties, but Palestinian urban dialects more closely resemble northern Levantine dialects, i.e., those of Syria and Lebanon.
The Bedouins of Palestine, however, are more securely known to be Arab by ancestry as well as by culture; their distinctively conservative dialects and pronunciation of qaaf as gaaf group them with other Bedouin across the Arab world and confirm their separate history.
In a number of villages in the Galilee (e.g. Maghar), and particularly, though not exclusively among the Druze, the qāf is actually pronounced qaaf as in Classical Arabic.
Religion: Currently, no reliable data are available for the worldwide Palestinian population. But an estimated percentage suggests 60% Muslim (mainly Sunni, but also a few Sufis), 30% Christian (predominantly Greek Orthodox, Roman Catholic, and others) and 10% Other (i.e. Druze, Baha'i, Jewish, Samaritan, etc).
However, within the West Bank and Gaza Strip, according to the Palestinian Academic Society for the Study of International Affairs, the (non-Jewish) Palestinian population is 97% Muslim and 3% Christian; there are also about 350 Samaritans and a few thousand Jews.

The ministry of health in Gaza and Medecins du Monde (MDM) raced to execute an emergency training maneuver in Rafah on Thursday in preparation for potential future attacks or conflicts. Palestinian medical crews, ambulances and civil defence staff practiced in treating 'injured' actors who lay moaning and sprawled across the ground. Part of the drill included transporting the wounded to a nearby hospital, where they were then 'treated'. This was explained by Hajj Amin al Husseini himself. Husseini, father of the Palestinian movement, launched his fourth terrorist attack against the Jews of the Mandate in 1936-39. The violence was so great that the British sent a team to investigate. When questioned, Husseini admitted that the Zionist Jews had not stolen anybody's land but in fact had bought it. In fact, Husseini had been among the major consolidators and sellers of land, and growing tremendously rich by it.

The video dispels certain myths concerning the origin of the name 'Palestine' and of the 'Arab Palestinians.' It documents that the 'Arab Palestinians' are in fact mostly from other places, and migrated to what is now Israel at the same time as the Zionist Jews, many of them because of the economic boom that the Zionist Jews produced in what was then British Mandate Palestine. The Zionist Jews did not steal the "best" land from Arab landowners but in fact purchased abandoned desert and swamp land from absentee Arab landlords who were quite eager to sell. This was explained by Hajj Amin al Husseini himself. Husseini, father of the Palestinian movement, launched his fourth terrorist attack against the Jews of the Mandate in 1936-39. The violence was so great that the British sent a team to investigate. When questioned, Husseini admitted that the Zionist Jews had not stolen anybody's land but in fact had bought it. In fact, Husseini had been among the major consolidators and sellers of land, and growing tremendously rich by it.

From my experience, I have learned that in this way, the Holy Land becomes more than just history, and that the large stones that we see scattered about in dissaray, join together one by one until they become - a Byzantine Church. This also happens when I lead a group of Pilgrims in the Steps of Jesus. We climb to the peak of Mount Precipice, "glide" over the land to the Sea of Galilee, land on the water and "see" the miracle which enfolds before us. This is a many faceted experience. Not only history which you will remember and cherish, but an experience which I hope will be inplanted in your hearts and minds, and will accompany you all the days of your life.

In 2006 an Israeli tank destroyed Rayeed's home and killed ten of his family. He and his family fled to Tel el-Hawa. "I didn't expect Israeli tanks would reach it. The threat of death for Israeli Jews and Muslim Palestinians is worse than ever. Whilst international media was refused entry into Gaza last month, local, Rayeed Al Atamna, shows us the hidden reality.

In Gaza, a water crisis is putting Palestinian lives at risk. Less than four percent of fresh water is drinkable and the surrounding sea is polluted by sewage. That's according to a report published by Oxfam International. It's one of the many reasons why the United Nations says Gaza could even become uninhabitable by 2020.
But first, the Palestinian movement Hamas has a new leader. Ismail Haniyeh is seen as a relative moderate, at a time the group is seeking to end its international isolation.
And without education, the children of Mosul had been feared lost to poverty and conflict. But thousands are now returning to school after parts of the city were recently recaptured from the Islamic State group.

The operation, launched in response to days of rocket fire from the Palestinian territory, kicked off with the assassination of Hamas' top military commander and deepened the instability gripping the Mideast. Israel's already strained relations with Egypt's new Islamist government frayed even further as Egypt recalled its ambassador Wednesday in response to the Israeli military operation.
Just days earlier, Israel was drawn into Syria's civil war for the first time, firing missiles into its northern neighbor for the first time in four decades after stray mortar fire landed in Israeli-occupied Syrian territory."*

In response to last year's Gaza conflict, the Israeli government announced the construction of further settlements in the West Bank — a move condemned by the international community for escalating tensions that were already highly fraught. The expansion of the settlements has consumed privately owned Palestinian land, causing the destruction of Palestinian homes, produce, and livelihoods. This series will look at four examples of new and extended walls around the world. It will examine the lives of those who are living next to them and how their lives are impacted. It will also reveal the intention of the walls' designers and builders, and explore the novel and artistic ways walls are used to chronicle the past and imagine the future.
Taking its name from John F. Kennedy's reference to the Berlin Wall in his state of the union address in 1963, this series will examine four new walls: The one on the American-Mexican border, the West Bank wall, the Spanish fence around Ceuta, and the walls inside the city of Belfast in Northern Ireland.

In this episode of Walls of Shame, we look at the plight of Palestinian farmers whose land has become inaccessible because of Israel's 700km security wall.
Most ancient cities had so-called 'protective' walls - and while we see some around Jerusalem dating back to the 16th century, the wall erected by Israel in the last few years not only looks different - it serves a completely different purpose.
Israel claims the wall is vital for its security, but according to the International Court of Justice it is in clear violation of international law.
This episode also looks at the real intention of those who first drew its outlines and their highest priority was not the security of Israel.
Update: Since this film first aired in 2007, Israel has continued to expand the wall more than 200km, despite condemnation from the UN and most recently the EU. It’s a measure that has continued to cause outrage, even from some of Israel's own citizens. Among these protesters are Israelis. We spoke with Jonathan Pollack, an Israeli activist who is part of the movement against the wall.

Update: Since this film first aired in 2007, Israel has continued to expand the wall more than 200km, despite condemnation from the UN and most recently the EU. It’s a measure that has continued to cause outrage, even from some of Israel's own citizens. Among these protesters are Israelis. In the wake of recent terror attacks in Europe — several of which targeted Jewish institutions — some politicians and religious leaders have predicted an exodus of Jewish people from the continent. In some ways, the numbers stack up. Last year, a record 8,000 Jews arrived in Israel from France — with another 15,000 coming from Eastern Europe.
But some critics argue that reports of Jewish flight are overblown; they accuse Israel of taking advantage of fears in Europe to attract new immigrants and serve the interests of the Israeli state. “We are preparing and calling for the absorption of mass immigration from Europe,” said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in February 2015. “I would like to tell all European Jews and all Jews wherever they are: Israel is the home of every Jew.”
In the last of a three-part series investigating these predictions of a mass Jewish migration, VICE News visits the West Bank. We meet a family of new French immigrants living in a controversial settlement near the border with Israel, and we sit down with the head of a regional council which is actively recruiting Europeans to move to those communities.

In response to last year's Gaza conflict, the Israeli government announced the construction of further settlements in the West Bank — a move condemned by the international community for escalating tensions that were already highly fraught.
The expansion of the settlements has consumed privately owned Palestinian land, causing the destruction of Palestinian homes, produce, and livelihoods. Despite Israeli settlements taking up only one percent of land in the West Bank, they now exert control over 42 percent, with settlement boundaries often 10 times larger than the settlements themselves.
VICE News traveled to the West Bank to speak to displaced Palestinians and activists who are trying desperately to address the grievances that boiled over with such horrific consequences in 2014.

Der Dokumentarfilm "Die Siedler der Westbank" zeigt ungewöhnliche Einblicke in das Leben der Pioniere der Siedlerbewegung und einer schillernden Gruppe von jungen radikalen Siedlern. Es ist eine eindringliche Betrachtung der umstrittenen Bewegung, die gewaltigen Einfluss auf die Zukunft der Schicksalsgemeinschaft von Israel und Palästina hat.
Zwischen 1948 und 1967 lebten keine Juden im historischen Kernland Judäa und Samaria, heute ist das Gebiet Heim von hunderttausenden jüdischen Siedlern, die fast so unterschiedlich in Ansichten, Herkunft, und sozioökonomischem Status sind, wie die restliche israelische Gesellschaft. Über die Besatzung und über das Siedlerphänomen wurde schon oft berichtet, aber diese Berichterstattung konzentrierte sich auf die Auswirkungen und nur selten auf die ideologischen und historischen Kräfte, die zur Entstehung der Siedlungen auf der Westbank führte. Dies tut diese Dokumentation. Vor allem aber gelingt in diesem Film eine ungewöhnlich intime Innensicht einer sonst nach außen abgeschotteten Gemeinschaft. The film chronologically progresses from morning to the small hours of the night, showing daily life.
For those planning on visiting, those who’d like to visit but cannot or those who might be nostalgic and want to re-live their past visits / life there, hopefully this film shall satisfy, time and time again. A person MUST experience the city at least once in their lifetime.
Jerusalem, located on a plateau in the Judean Mountains between the Mediterranean and the Dead Sea, is one of the oldest cities in the world. It is considered holy to the three major Abrahamic religions - Judaism, Christianity and Islam.
During its long history, Jerusalem has been destroyed twice, besieged 23 times, attacked 52 times, and captured and recaptured 44 times.
The oldest part of the city was settled in the 4th millennium BCE. In 1538, walls were built around Jerusalem under Suleiman the Magnificent. Today those walls define the Old City, which has been traditionally divided into four quarters - known since the early 19th century as the Armenian, Christian, Jewish, and Muslim Quarters.
The Old City became a World Heritage site in 1981. Modern Jerusalem has grown far beyond the Old City's boundaries.
Simply wandering the streets of the Old City while capturing the ambiance, historical sites, smells and different people will leave you with unforgettable experiences and a lifetime of amazing memories.

This unique one day guided West Bank tour, leaves from Jerusalem every Saturday and will take you to four of the highlights of the West Bank: Bethlehem, Jericho, Taybeh, and Ramallah, for an unforgettable insight into the history and culture of this fascinating region. Visiting major historic and religious sites, as well as sites of natural beauty, and modern day culture, this is a varied and fascinating tour which you will not forget.
Leaving Jerusalem, the tour heads to Bethlehem where you will enjoy a guided tour of the major sites of the city where Jesus was born. You'll visit Church of Nativity, the Milk Grotto, the Old City with its colorful market, the Shepherd's Field, and walk alongside the separation barrier breaking the journey with a delicious Arab style lunch. After lunch, you'll visit Qasr-el-Yahud, the ancient baptism site of Jesus on the banks of the Jordan River, before continuing to the archaeological sight of the world's oldest city, Jericho. After leaving Jericho, you will have a great view of the Mount of Temptation as we head into the rolling hills of the West Bank and the village of Taybeh, famous for being home to the Taybeh Brewery. Back on the bus, the last stop, Ramallah, is just a short distance away. You'll tour this modern, vibrant, cultural capital of the West Bank, seeing Arafat's Tomb. If you want to continue to a nightlife tour of Ramallah, including dinner, nargila, a bar and a nightclub, you can do so at this point. Otherwise, you'll head back to Jerusalem with a day of memories that will not be soon forgotten.
Today we're going on a tour of West Bank or Palestine. We have a very diverse tour. We're going to be seeing historical attractions, political attractions and tourist attractions.
Our first stop today is Sheppard's Field and here in the background we have the Church of the Sheppard which is where the three sheppard's are supposed to have seen the start of David in the sky before Jesus was born.

Now we're visiting a refugee camp. It looks more like a city because it's been around for more than 60 years.
Sizzling sound of frying oil.
I've had falafel many times but this is the first time I've seen it prepared.
Forget Starbucks, I'm going to Stars and Bucks.
So were are back at the Jordan River again. A few days ago we visited from the Jordanian side in Bethany beyond the Jordan. It's a bit surreal being back so soon.
Right now we're visiting Jericho and to the left is a new part of Jericho. The new city. And to my right is the world's oldest city.
We're visiting the first West Bank Palestinian brewery here.
Ah, that's good.

I learned about what the people of Palestine experience in regards to restrictions with travel and work because of this wall, separating them from Israel. I could see the effects of this major conflict happening between Palestine and Israel but what I saw barely scratched the surface of what's really going on.
I also walked across the border of Israel and Jordan to meet with Skal and the students and to experience the Dead Sea and Petra!
