1864 (MDCCCLXIV) was a leap year starting on Friday (dominical letter CB) of the Gregorian calendar and a leap year starting on Wednesday (dominical letter ED) of the Julian calendar, the 1864th year of the Common Era (CE) and Anno Domini (AD) designations, the 864th year of the 2nd millennium, the 64th year of the 19th century, and the 5th year of the 1860s decade. Note that the Julian day for 1864 is 12 calendar days difference, which continued to be used from 1582 until the complete conversion of the Gregorian calendar was entirely done in 1929.
The Battle of Dybbøl (Danish: Slaget ved Dybbøl; German: Erstürmung der Düppeler Schanzen) was the key battle of the Second Schleswig War and occurred on the morning of 18 April 1864 following a siege starting on 7 April. Denmark suffered a severe defeat against Prussia, which decided the war. Dybbøl was also a battlefield in the First Schleswig War.
Following the annexation of the Duchy of Schleswig in November 1863 by the Danish king Christian IX (who was also the Duke of Schleswig), Prussian and Austrian troops invaded Jutland in January 1864.
The defending Danish army were equipped with smaller guns and an older type of rifle. The Prussian army used the Dreyse needle-gun, a breech-loading rifle that could be loaded while the user was lying down. Since the Danes had to load their older muzzle-loading rifles while standing, they were better targets for the Prussians.
The Dybbøl fort lies in a short blunt peninsula that defends against access to the fort by land and featured an enclosed pier for the ferry across the Alssund to Sønderborg on the island of Als.
Let me explain some things so you don't have to ask or be confused in the comments. This is an episode from the Danish TV show 1864, it's episode 8 so some of the things might seem a bit strange as it is connected to other episodes. I personally made the subtitles for this, my English is quite good, and the subtitles are accurate in spirit, they are not always direct translations, some parts do not have subtitles as it makes no sense at all if you haven't watched the series. The Subtitles begin when the Soldiers sit in the trench. This is not a propaganda movie, but a drama series. Denmark does not have a tradition for war movies at all, and this is quite possibly only the second War series we have ever made, at least to my knowledge. It contains a lot of fiction, but this battle scene ...

This is a fan edit of the climax battle in the danish tv series 1864. The scenes shows the daring battle between Denmark and Prussia. NOTE: This is just an edit, which I made by myself. The actual battle is over 30 minutes long.
