A hydraulic press is a device (see machine press) using a hydraulic cylinder to generate a compressive force. It uses the hydraulic equivalent of a mechanical lever, and was also known as a Bramah press after the inventor, Joseph Bramah, of England. He invented and was issued a patent on this press in 1795. As Bramah (who is also known for his development of the flush toilet) installed toilets, he studied the existing literature on the motion of fluids and put this knowledge into the development of the press.
The hydraulic press depends on Pascal's principle: the pressure throughout a closed system is constant. One part of the system is a piston acting as a pump, with a modest mechanical force acting on a small cross-sectional area; the other part is a piston with a larger area which generates a correspondingly large mechanical force. Only small-diameter tubing (which more easily resists pressure) is needed if the pump is separated from the press cylinder.
Pascal's law: Pressure on a confined fluid is transmitted undiminished and acts with equal force on equal areas and at 90 degrees to the container wall.
Graphite /ˈɡræfaɪt/, archaically referred to as Plumbago, is a crystalline form of carbon, a semimetal, a native element mineral, and one of the allotropes of carbon. Graphite is the most stable form of carbon under standard conditions. Therefore, it is used in thermochemistry as the standard state for defining the heat of formation of carbon compounds. Graphite may be considered the highest grade of coal, just above anthracite and alternatively called meta-anthracite, although it is not normally used as fuel because it is difficult to ignite.
There are three principal types of natural graphite, each occurring in different types of ore deposit:

It morphs into coal, diamond, graphite, graphene, fullerenes, nanotubes, buckyballs and more, all with their own set of fantastic properties. Except for CO2, that causes global warming. In this video I make real diamond from graphite. First I attempt to make real diamond by crushing carbon with a hydraulic press because I have had many requests to do so. But, even though there are many hydraulic press videos that pretend to make diamond in a hydraulic press, it is quite impossible without extreme heat! So, I show you a way to make real diamond in your microwave by heating up graphite soaked in oil. I end up making a small explosion in the microwave. Luckily I didn't burn my house down! In the end I show you a small diamond that we I made with the extreme heat! Watch all my videos at www.freesciencelessons.co.uk This video is for the new GCSE specifications (levels 1-9) for all exam boards. In this video, we look at the giant covalent molecule graphite. First we look at the properties of graphite and then explore how these are related to the structure of graphite.
Just sharing an interesting result we had from looking at curie motors
Sometimes you need lubrication that will not attract dirt and dust and graphite wax does that for me. The wax holds the graphite in place and the pair of them work excellent together. Making it is simple and cheap.
Follow us at: https://plus.google.com/+tutorvista/ Check us out at http://www.tutorvista.com/science-help Structure of Diamond and Graphite The structure of diamond Carbon has an electronic arrangement of 2,4. In diamond, each carbon shares electrons with four other carbon atoms - forming four single bonds. In the diagram some carbon atoms only seem to be forming two bonds (or even one bond), but that's not really the case. We are only showing a small bit of the whole structure. This is a giant covalent structure - it continues on and on in three dimensions. It is not a molecule, because the number of atoms joined up in a real diamond is completely variable - depending on the size of the crystal The structure of Graphite :Graphite has a layer structure which is quite difficult to draw...
In the gleaming nightfall we can watch the light retreat.
Its rays slither eastward, like snakes along the grass,
As it leaves us to ourselves.
Woods of tall trees
Old, deformed and barren - obscuring the sun -
Red and tired
From working its way up from life giver
To massive hydrogen bomb
We can't see the sun,
But we can see the god rays surrounding the trees
And brief dim flickers of light shining through them.
These are rays from a god that is long dead.
It's our final night in this place.
There is no tomorrow.
