Having a thorough knowledge of the brand, product or service one represents is an absolute must. Also required is a working knowledge of the market trends and competitor products or services of the same niche. This will help to zero in on prospective clients and assist to stir an interest in the products or services being offered by the representative.
Direct Sales representatives work in a wide array of industries and sectors which include FMCG, Consumer products, medical, pharmaceutical, engineering etc. among many others. There is a certain amount of travelling involved although it is not as much as field sales. A direct sales representative plays a pivotal role in building a customer base for any business.

Responsibilities & Skills

- Every sales representative has a monthly, quarterly and annual target assigned which needs to be met
- Some sales reps may be responsible for managing and upselling to their existing clients
- Remaining abreast with the latest product or industry developments and attending training, seminars etc.

Required Qualifications

  • Smaller companies require only a 10+2 certificate
  • However MNCs and larger companies need at least a post graduation degree like an MBA or PGDM in any discipline.
  • On the job training is given by most companies and those that are related to engineering or the Pharma industry prefer students with a science background like a BSc. or B. Tech.
