In this video, we highlight 10 of the best things to do in and around Bangkok for your first or second visit:
10. Try the street food
A dish generally costs between 1 to $3 and ranges from barbecued chicken and steamed dumplings, to Pad Thai and tasty mango sticky rice.
9. Admire the Grand Palace
The Grand Palace is Bangkok’s most impressive and popular tourist attraction. Established in 1782, this complex was the royal residence for generations.
8. See the reclining Buddha at Wat Pho
Known as one of Bangkok’s oldest temples, this place has a rich history and is home to an impressive Reclining Buddha.
7. Visit a floating market
The most popular floating market is Damnoen Saduak, which is about a 1.5 hour drive from the city center of Bangkok.

6. Take a stroll in Lumpini park
This big green oasis offers several lawn areas, paved walking paths, trees, playgrounds, and an artificial lake.
5. Get a view over Bangkok
We visited the Mahanakhon building, home to Bangkok’s highest observation deck, which provides spectacular views of the city and river.
☑ Buy tickets in advance (recommended!): https://kpmn.thaiticketonline.net/book/kpmn
4. Explore lesser-known Buddhist Temples
With roots steeped in centuries-old history and Buddhist culture, you can find hundreds of temples in Bangkok. It’s worth visiting a few in the Banglamphu area (Golden Mount & Loha Prasat) with a local guide.

Bangkok attracted more than 20 million visitors in 2023, making it one of the most visited cities in the world. Â
Tourists on all budgets are attracted to its historic palaces, temples, bustling markets, and cultural heritage, but for those with cash to splash, the so-called 'City of Angels' also offers 5-star hotels, Michelin-starred restaurants and luxurious shopping malls.
Get an insider's look as CNBC's First Class takes you on a journey to experience funky urban hideaways, a five-star river cruise, and a seat at one of the most hard-to-book restaurants.

🇹🇠Thai Street Food - Best Noodles: https://youtu.be/dUEMXUMwiAw
👕 T-shirts: https://store.migrationology.com/
BANGKOK, THAILAND - Today we’re going on a Thai street food tour at Bangkok’s famous Chatuchak Weekend Market. We’ll eat everything from Thai rice and curry to street snacks to one of the best bowls of shrimp tom yum in Bangkok, hidden within a back alley of the market. Let’s go eat!
Jay Lek Rice and Curry (ร้านข้าวงเจ๊เล็) - https://maps.app.goo.gl/Upref6JY9rQELjhx6 - This is a great Thai breakfast rice and curry spot, where you order Khao Rad Gaeng (ข้าวราดง) - Mix of dishes over rice.
Mae Sumontha Grilled Honey Pork (หมูย่างน้ำผึ้ง ม่สุมณฑา) - https://maps.app.goo.gl/4vF7SaeJCnrGURUL9 - This legendary stall at Chatuchak Weekend Market is famous for grilling up moo yang nam peung (หมูย่างน้ำผึ้ง) - Honey grilled pork, and you don’t want to miss it when you’re there.
Rattana Kosin Boat Noodles (à¸?๋วยเตี๋ยวเรืà¸à¸£à¸±à¸•à¸™à¹‚à¸?สินทร์) - https://maps.app.goo.gl/2frzaV2xAxRwwb9z9 - Continuing with this Thai street food tour, there are plenty of noodle options, and one of the tastiest is Thai boat noodles. I ordered kuay teow reua neau (boat noodles with beef) à¸?๋วยเตี๋ยวเรืà¸.
Uncle Prayong (ลุงประยงค์ โครงาร 3 ผง 150) - Along with full meals you’ll find an abundance of street food snacks to try throughout the market, and one of my favorites is green mango with sweet fish sauce syrup - mamuang nam pla wan (มะม่วงน้ำปลาหวาน).
Raan Yaam Jae-Euang (ร้านยà¹?าเจ๊à¸à¸¶à¹ˆà¸‡) - https://maps.app.goo.gl/fMyqYajnjWi2buxr8 - This unassuming Thai street food stall serves one of the best bowls of shrimp tom yum in Bangkok! Of course you have to try tom yum goong (ต้มยำà¸?ุ้ง), shrimp tom yum, but also don’t miss their goong tod kratiam (à¸?ุ้งทà¸à¸”à¸?ระเทียม) - fried garlic shrimp, yam ruam mit (ยำผัà¸?ระเฉด) - all sorts of mixed spicy salads, and yod tantawan moo krob (ผัดยà¸à¸”ทานตะวันหมูà¸?รà¸à¸š) - sunflower sprouts with crispy pork belly. This place is a hidden Thai street food gem!
Finally, when you’re navigating Chatuchak Weekend Market, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to eat some refreshing coconut ice cream.

Bangkok is a juggernaut that is as beautiful as it is huge. Thailand's capital is not only much larger than the Maldives, Liechtenstein,
Andorra - even Los Angeles, Madrid, Rome, Vienna, Berlin, Kiev, Delhi and Mexico City cannot compete with the City of Angeles.
Most tourists are completely unaware of this fact. They have seen the fantastic sights in films, advertisements and social media and are then surprised that Bangkok does not have a beach. and how long it takes to check into the supposedly centrally located city hotel.
And travelers who are thinking about Bangkok in advance of their trip are quickly faced with these three big puzzles: In which area should I look for accommodation? Are three days perhaps not enough to see everything? And how do I get from A to B?
These questions are answered once and for all in this video. First we dive into how to get from the airport to the city and how best to get around. Then we show where the most important sightseeing spots are, where Bangkok is the most beautiful, where the best food spots are and where the nightlife is the most fun. There are also hotel tips to be close to the action. And at the end we give you the best travel plan for a few days in Bangkok.

John Burdett - on his fast-paced novels set in Bangkok - Hosted by Rudy Maxa
Our Guest: John Burdett - Autho
Should you have to opportunity to read a novel by John Burdett, I would suggest you steel yourself. While many of his books are set in the city where he now lives, Bangkok, and while you’ll learn a lot about Thai culture from his books, the crimes in Burdett’s fast-paced thrillers can be gruesome. But it’s leavened by Burdett’s sense of humor.
Burdett grew up in London but became acquainted with Asia when he joined a major law firm in Hong Kong. He’d always wanted to write fiction, but the law paid better.
After 12 years lawyering in Hong Kong, he’d saved enough money to indulge his passion. He eventually settled in Thailand’s capital city where he’s lived the last 19 years.
Burdett has written eight novels, six of them revolving around a world-wear...

Commentary on the Books of John Burdett
John Burdett writes what I call cultural mysteries. They are set in Hong Kong and Bangkok and spotlight cultural factors in the performance and solutions to crime. Great characters, but some plots might offend some readers. In the video I suggest who might like what. No spoilers and I don't concentrate on plot.
Burdett has written eight novels, six of them revolving around a world-weary Bangkok cop, Sonchai Jitpleecheep, a Buddhist detective in Bangkok’s District 8 who encounters bad guys with disturbing regularity.
Check out Bangkok Haunts, Bangkok 8, or Bangkok Tattoo. Of the latter novel, one of America’s premier crime novelists, James Ellroy wrote, “A novel so steeped in milieu that it feels as if you’ve blasted to Mars in the grip of a demon who won’t let you go.
Carl Hiassen also wrote of Bangkok Tattoo, “One of the most startling and provocative mysteries I’ve read in years. Once I started, I didn’t want to put it down.
Because of the time difference between the US and Asia, I must pre-record this interview. But I think his take on Asia, ex-pats in Asia, and crime will keep you riveted.

After 12 years lawyering in Hong Kong, he’d saved enough money to indulge his passion. He eventually settled in Thailand’s capital city where he’s lived the last 19 years.

Held from 6 to 20 December 1998, the 13th edition of the Asian Games marked the fourth time that Bangkok, Thailand had played host, having already done so in 1966, 1970 (initially in Seoul) and 1978 (initially Singapore, then Islamabad). But in its run-up, there had been serious doubts about whether Thailand, in the midst of Asia's worst economic crisis in half a century, would successfully host the world’s second-biggest sporting event. The Thai cause was not helped in the final weeks leading to the Asiad, when the construction of road links and games venues was running behind schedule, general ticket sales for the events very low and some teams were pulled out of competitions.
According to a news report from United Press International, its preparations including the construction and renovation of three main stadiums and an athletes' village, cost an estimated THB6 billion, which is US$167 million.
But finally, all doubts had been erased by the time the Games got underway at the 70,000-seat Rajamangala National Stadium in Bangkok. Over 6,000 athletes across the continent have participated in the Bangkok Asian Games, which featured 377 medal events in 36 sports and disciplines.
At these Games, Thailand had bagged 24 gold, 26 silver and 40 bronze medals, making a total of 90 medals that placed them fourth on the medal tally, behind Asian sporting powerhouses China, Japan and South Korea. The home crowd’s support has been exceptional, and the host nation's victories have been a welcome diversion from the country’s economic woes. For Thailand as a whole, the 1998 Asiad was one of its remarkable achievements in the nation's sports development throughout its modern history.

Held from 6 to 20 December 1998, the 13th edition of the Asian Games marked the fourth time that Bangkok, Thailand had played host, having already done so in 1966, 1970 (initially in Seoul) and 1978 (initially Singapore, then Islamabad). It was also the first time that the Thai capital have put a bid for the event, having been selected in September 1990 over bids from Taipei and Jakarta.
At these Games, Thailand had bagged 24 gold, 26 silver and 40 bronze medals, making a total of 90 medals that placed them fourth on the medal tally, behind Japan at third (52 golds), South Korea at second (65 golds), and Games topnotchers China (129 golds). The home crowd’s support has been exceptional, and the host nation's victories have been a welcome diversion from the country’s economic woes. For Thailand as a whole, the 1998 Asiad was one of its remarkable achievements in the nation's sports development throughout its modern history.
