Adelaide (i/ˈædəleɪd/ AD-ə-layd) is the capital city of the state of South Australia, and the fifth-most populous city of Australia. In June 2014, Adelaide had an estimated resident population of 1.30 million. The demonym "Adelaidean" is used in reference to the city and its residents. Adelaide is north of the Fleurieu Peninsula, on the Adelaide Plains between the Gulf St Vincent and the low-lying Mount Lofty Ranges which surround the city. Adelaide stretches 20 km (12 mi) from the coast to the foothills, and 90 km (56 mi) from Gawler at its northern extent to Sellicks Beach in the south.
Named in honour of Adelaide of Saxe-Meiningen, queen consort to King William IV, the city was founded in 1836 as the planned capital for a freely-settled British province in Australia. Colonel William Light, one of Adelaide's founding fathers, designed the city and chose its location close to the River Torrens, in the area originally inhabited by the Kaurna people. Light's design set out Adelaide in a grid layout, interspaced by wide boulevards and large public squares, and entirely surrounded by parklands. Early Adelaide was shaped by prosperity and wealth — up until the Second World War, it was Australia's third largest city. It has been noted for early examples of religious freedom, a commitment to political progressivism and civil liberties. It has been known as the "City of Churches" since the mid-19th century.
An adventure park is a place which can contain a wide variety of elements, such as rope climbing exercises, obstacle courses and zip-lines. They are usually intended for recreation.
"Recreational-oriented" adventure parks are usually designed for a larger volume of visitors. They do not follow a specific educational concept, but see the individual, physical and mental challenge as a predominantly recreational activity. Neither climbing techniques nor special/specific physical fitness experience are necessary. Typical slogans are: Have Fun, Test your Courage, Overcome your Own Fears, Be Outside, Be in the Nature, Do some Physical Activities, etc.
It is unclear where and when the first ropes course was created. A first ropes course was built in 1875 in France and functioned mainly as a physical challenge activity for the participants. During the Second World War, ropes courses were used as obstacle courses for improving the physical fitness of the British military.
In the mid-1960s, ropes courses became a central component of outdoor seminars in the United States.

Adelaide, Australia, is one of the nation’s most striking cities. Situated over the River Torrens and overlooking the Gulf of St. Vincent, Adelaide is the perfect combination of big-city living and outdoor beauty. Start out your Adelaide sightseeing by watching the sunrise at the beach, followed by a cup of tea or coffee at one of the many cafes around Victoria Square. The square is the heart of the city grid, and from there you can easily walk to some of Adelaide’s most striking 19th-century buildings. The nearby St. Francis Xavier Cathedral towers over Wakefield Street, and the Adelaide Central Market is a wonderful place to find fresh produce. Just a few blocks north of Victoria Square is the South Australian Museum, where you can learn about the region’s history—both European and th...

In the evening, catch some live music, or head to one of the many restaurants and bars. http://www.expedia.com/Adelaide-and-vicinity.d6051330.Destination-Travel-Guides Adelaide is the capital of South Australia and is situated close to the Great Southern Ocean. It is a compact beachside city that is full of churches, stone buildings and beautiful parklands. This picturesque city is unusual amongst Australian cities in that it was founded by free settlers, not convicts. Those early founders put a lot of passion into creating a better life for themselves even though they were many thousands of miles from home. Because of that history, Adelaide has a unique sense of refinement and beauty. One of the most popular places to visit is Victoria Square which is right in the heart of the city. From here, it is easy to wander along the North Terrace District and admire the gracefu...
Kangaroo Island is an incredible place to visit in Australia. The island is Australia’s second largest (after Tasmania) and is located close to Adelaide in the state of South Australia. A short car ride followed by a scenic ferry trip brings you to this wildlife paradise. There are lots of things to do on the island from diving and sand boarding to tasting local wines. Where Kangaroo Island really comes to life is its great nature and wildlife. The coastline is amazingly beautiful and wildlife such as Kangaroos, Wallabies (and even very shy Koalas) can be found everywhere. You could stay for a week on Kangaroo Island (and some people never leave), but 3 days is a great amount of time to explore the best of Kangaroo Island. What to do and where to go on your 3 Days on Kangaroo Island? See i...

A recent Easter Weekend trip from Adelaide to Loveday 4x4 Adventure Park in the Riverland of South Australia.
Part 1 of a 12 part series. In 2008 A good friend and I embarked on an epic 4wd journey starting in Adelaide then Travelling up through the center of Australia via the Oodnadatta track, and across to Ayres Rock, Kings Canyon, Devils Marbles and then going right up into the Gulf of Carpentaria then across the tablelands to Cairns before following the east coast of Queensland down into New South Whales before heading inland again and travelling through the outback along the Darling river and then returning to Adelaide. The Adventure took approximately 6 weeks and was a truly awesome experience.
Googs Track in South Australia is located a short drive North of Ceduna. In September 2015 I completed a solo crossing in my Land Rover Defender over 4 days. Googs Track is a single vehicle track crossing 363 sand dunes from South to North. It passes through the Yumbarra Conservation Park and Yellabinna Regional Reserve. The Track was constructed by John ‘Goog’ Denton between 1976 to 1979. It is 4wd only access due to the sandy dunes, not suitable for soft roaders. There are no facilities along its route so travellers much be totally self sufficient for fuel, food and water. A sand flag is highly recommended. Highlights along the track are Googs Lake and Mount Finke, both providing basic campsites. I completed the exploration from Ceduna ending in Glendambo, an approximate distance o...
