Hawaii (English pronunciation: i/həˈwaɪʲi/ hə-WY-(y)ee; locally, [həˈwɐ(ɪ)ʔi]; Hawaiian: Hawaiʻi [həˈvɐjʔi]) is the 50th and most recent state of the United States of America, receiving statehood on August 21, 1959. Hawaii is the only U.S. state located in Oceania and the only one composed entirely of islands. It is the northernmost island group in Polynesia, occupying most of an archipelago in the central Pacific Ocean. Hawaii is the only U.S. state not located in the Americas. The state does not observe daylight saving time.
The state encompasses nearly the entire volcanic Hawaiian archipelago, which comprises hundreds of islands spread over 1,500 miles (2,400 km). At the southeastern end of the archipelago, the eight main islands are—in order from northwest to southeast: Niʻihau, Kauaʻi, Oʻahu, Molokaʻi, Lānaʻi, Kahoʻolawe, Maui and the Island of Hawaiʻi. The last is the largest island in the group; it is often called the "Big Island" or "Hawaiʻi Island" to avoid confusion with the state or archipelago. The archipelago is physiographically and ethnologically part of the Polynesian subregion of Oceania.

Kewalo Basin is a commercial boat harbor that serves as home to some of Honolulu's commercial fishing fleet, and charter and excursion vessels that serve the Hawaii tourist market. Pre-European contact, the area was historically used for human sacrifice. The land was given to Ihu by Kamehameha I and inherited by his daughter Kamakeʻe and her husband Jonah Piikoi. On the ocean side of the harbor is a small beach park on the Honolulu waterfront, located adjacent to the larger Ala Moana Beach Park. This park is good for swimming, picnicking and sightseeing. It can be accessed from the corners of Ala Moana Boulevard and Ward Avenue.
Piracy is an act of robbery or criminal violence at sea. Those who engage in acts of piracy are called pirates. The earliest documented instances of piracy were in the 14th century BC, when the Sea Peoples, a group of ocean raiders, attacked the ships of the Aegean and Mediterranean civilizations. Narrow channels which funnel shipping into predictable routes have long created opportunities for piracy, as well as for privateering and commerce raiding. Privateering uses similar methods to piracy, but the captain acts under orders of the state authorizing the capture of merchant ships belonging to an enemy nation, making it a legitimate form of war-like activity by non-state actors.(For a land-based parallel, compare the association of bandits and brigands with mountain passes.) Historic examples include the waters of Gibraltar, the Strait of Malacca, Madagascar, the Gulf of Aden, and the English Channel, whose geographic strictures facilitated pirate attacks.
Big Island may refer to:
Newfoundland and Labrador

Probably the first footage of surfing and one of the oldest footages of Hawaii Thomas Edison´s Hawaii Old and Rare Footage 1906 Part 2 Surfboard Riders + Surf Scenes Waikiki + Hawaiians Arriving to a '' Luau '' In 1906, Robert Bonine came to Hawaii for Thomas Edison to film an "Actuality" documentary of life in the Polynesian territory. There are shots of native Hawaiians throwing net in malos, and there is a shot of a mass of kids playing King of the Hill on The Float -- most of them wearing tanksuits. Principle Power targets the rapidly maturing offshore wind sector by eliminating current deep-water limitations with an innovative and economic solution. WindFloat is a floating support structure for offshore wind turbines with a simple, economic and patented design. The innovative features of the WindFloat dampen wave and turbine induced motion, enabling wind turbines to be sited in previously inaccessible locations where water depth exceeds 50m and wind resources are superior. Further, economic efficiency is maximized by reducing the need for offshore heavylift operations during final assembly deployment and commissioning. Multiple projects are in development for the installation of commercial Windfloat units in both European and US offshore wind farms. Advantages There are three advan...

Honolulu, the capital of the Hawaiian Islands has developed into a lively city. In the heart of the city there’s a statue in honour of King Kamehama The Third who in 1840 moved his government residence from the island of Maui to Honolulu on Oahu, thus unifying the island kingdom. In later years the Victorian Iolani Palace became the new residence of those who ruled Hawaii. Hawaii wouldn’t be Hawaii if it were not for its world famous surfers when during the winter season the northern part of Oahu with its Waimea Bay, Banzai Pipeline and Sunset Beach is extremely popular with surfers. A total of a hundred and thirty two islands, atolls and reefs make up the island group of Hawaii. Only a twenty-minute flight from Oahu and Honolulu is the fourth largest island, ‘Garden Island’ or, Kauai...
https://www.expedia.com/Honolulu.d1488.Destination-Travel-Guides Welcome to Honolulu, the capital of Hawaii. Whether you’re here to live the life of a beach bum or want to explore the city’s lush tropical surroundings, you’ll find everything you’re looking for on your Honolulu tour. Hawaii had a pretty explosive inception—Diamond Head Crater, also called Leahi, started life as an active volcano. Don’t worry; it’s since gone dormant, which means you can climb to the rim and take in a truly brilliant view of the coast. Head back down to the water and go paddleboarding or swimming; “Honolulu” means “sheltered bay,” and the beachfront here lives up to its name: It’s calm and sheltered y...

In this travel video guide to Maui, Hawaii, I travel to Maui and start off by heading to Haleakalā National Park to watch the sunrise from the highest volcano in Maui. On this part of the island, clouds form at the base of the volcano, and as the sun rises, a myriad of colors form and provide an unforgettable visual experience. Next I throw on a wet suit and hit the waves to learn how to surf -- my first time ever. Though I've ridden the New York City subway after happy hour before, I was still a little unsure about how my balance would be on a surfboard. Luckily, the surf instructor had a black labrador dog out on her board with us in case anything went terribly wrong. The Island of Hawai'i is also known as the Big Island. Green jungles, blue waves and red hot lava please the senses on this North Pacific island with its equally colorful Polynesian history. Find most resorts and attractions around Kailua-Kona on the west coast. To see green sea turtles, visit Kahalu'u bay or Kaloko-Honokohau National Historical Park. For a break from beaches, the grand Hulihe'e Palace and the sacred site of Pu'uhonua are worth exploring. The highest point of the island is the Mauna Kea volcano. Hikers will also love Pu'uhonua o Honaunau National Historical Park and Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. During a dawn or dusk cruise, the active Kīlauea volcano makes for a spectacular sight when the glowing lava seems to set the ocean on fire. On the opposite side of the island,...
In part four of my travel video series from Maui, Hawaii, I decide to get a little high culture in and head to Ulupalakua Winery and Ranch, where I sample some pineapple wine (what else?), then head across the street to the Western-themed country store for elk burgers for lunch. Then I pick up my friends and head north to Honolua Bay to hike in the nearby forest (and maybe get lost a bit), then visit a hillside that overlooks Honolua Bay, where you can park your car and watch some of the best surfers in the world who come here to surf one of the world's best surfing spots.
In part two of my travel video series from Maui, Hawaii, I travel to Paia, the small, laid-back beach town on the northern coast of Maui, to track down the famed breakfast dish called the Loco Moco (rice, brown gravy and a hamburger patty topped with a fried egg). Next I head north on the Hana Highway and take a hike into the lush forest to take a dip at Twin Falls, a small water hole in the middle of the forest fed by two island waterfalls. If this isn't classic Hawaii, then I don't know what is. Finally, I pick up my friends at the airport and jump onto a helicopter(!) to take an aerial tour of Maui and nearby Moloka'i. From this vantage point we visit dramatic sea cliffs up close and explore the interior portions of the islands -- places that few people ever see.
In part three of my travel video series from Maui, Hawaii, I start off the day by heading back up the side of Haleakala Volcano, then lunging my body of the side of the hillside (okay, I was paragliding). As I floated thousands of feet above ground, I was given a unique viewpoint of the island, and even lived to tell about it (and make this video). Next I head out onto the open water on a sailing outrigger canoe (a canoe with a lateral support on its side in traditional Polynesian fashion), and take to the water to go snorkeling, which included a couple sea turtle sightings. Last, I finish up the day with fish tacos at Coconut's (which, to this day, are probably some of the best fish tacos I've ever had), and shave ice for dessert, the classic Hawaii dessert consisting of shaved ice inu...

Andrew Bennett has chased trophy fish around the globe with his fly rod in hand, so when he picked the easy access of an undisclosed Hawaiian location for his next bonefishing trip, we knew it would either be really, really good or really, really exotic. It turned out the trip and the location were a little bit of both. In his latest global fishing report, the Sport Shop guide reports from a prime Pacific fishery with a distinct cultural feel, where he saw the biggest bonefish of his life.
Traveller Megan McCormick begins her journey in the island paradise of Hawaii on Kauai, the least explored of the islands. She is invited to a Hula ceremony and learns that dancing was how the natives expressed their history and culture in the days before the Hawaiian language evolved. The main staple of the Hawaiian diet is a vegetable called taro. Megan lends a hand with the harvest, and is invited to taste the fruit of her labours at a Luau the following evening. Meanwhile, she kayaks down the Wailua River into the rainforest and treks into the forest to an isolated spot where she takes a refreshing dip in a waterfall. From Kauai, Megan flies to Oahu, the most populated of the islands. At the tourist haven of Waikiki she heads for the beach and takes a surfing lesson, learning how to ...

Our impeccable crew built the foundation of great friendships, and gained riding confidence with each other despite vast differences in style. The last episode shows the riders in some of their best and worst moments including a friendly competition with a light of humility and immersing themselves in the craziness of the annual carnival. They share their overall experiences, and express that being part of a skateboard film such as this offers more to learn than expected. Looking back to the "Switzerland" series, the sport has evolved considerably in contrast to the "Offshore" series. They each portray an exciting time capsule of where the sport was during that time. Through a fast paced project such as Greener Pastures, it is difficult to fathom what was possible to create in three wee...

Windsurfing Mighty Mauch makes waves in Cold Hawaii Day two of the KIA Cold Hawaii PWA World Cup 2013 started in the pitch black as the competitors and race crew congregated at the Cold Hawaii club house at 6am. The early start, however, didn't pay off as the forecast that promised wind from first light failed to materialize due to the offshore direction. After seven and a half painstaking hours the wind finally followed forecast as it swung cross-off shore allowing the competition to begin shortly afterwards, in perfect, peeling down the line waves - half mast to logo high - and light to medium winds, which saw two waves to count over the duration of eighteen minute heats. Men's Trials Heat A of the trials witnessed Moritz Mauch (Starboard / North), Lars Gobisch (RRD / NeilPryde), Tuo...
