Currently, students in classrooms around the nation find science disengaging and uncreative. As a result, numerous individuals have a lack of interest in science and choose to no enter the field. However, the issues regarding science aren't within the field, but instead the way it has been taught and portrayed to students that is counterintuitive to the way that we learn. Through their knowledge and research, they have determined that science can be taught in a way that is creative, collaborative, engaging, and authentic, allowing students to fully understand how science truly work. By employing aspects of the nature of science (NOS) and different approaches to instruction, students will have a more informed view of science, resulting in an increase of interest and engagement. Renald Daemicke is currently an undergraduate from Drake University studying to become a next generation science teacher. He believes that it is essential, now more than ever, that children have the capabilities to problem-solve and think autonomously. Renald is an advocate for collaboration and creativity in the field of science, and his research involves studying how various instructional methods aid to STEM education. Mitchell Klocke is currently a student student with a double major in Biology and Secondary Education at Drake University in Des Moines, IA. He was born and raised in Coon Rapids, IA his entire life before attending college where he wants to pursue a career in the field of science. Currently, he conducts research in Science Education and STEM at the University under the mentorship of Dr. Jerrid Kruse.
