The Scheldt (/ʃɛlt/, French: l'Escaut [ɛsko], Walloon: Escô, Dutch: Schelde [ˈsxɛldə]) is a 350-kilometre (220 mi) long river in northern France, western Belgium and the southwestern part of the Netherlands. Its name is derived from an adjective corresponding to Old English sceald "shallow", Modern English shoal, Low German schol, Frisian skol, and Swedish (obsolete) skäll "thin".
The headwaters of the Scheldt are in Gouy, in the Aisne department of northern France. It flows north through Cambrai and Valenciennes, and enters Belgium near Tournai. In Ghent, where it receives the Lys, one of its main tributaries, the Scheldt turns east. Near Antwerp, the largest city on its banks, the Scheldt flows west into the Netherlands towards the North Sea.
Originally there were two branches from that point: the Oosterschelde (Eastern Scheldt) and the Westerschelde (Western Scheldt) but in the 19th century the river was cut off from its eastern (actually: northern) branch by a dyke that connects Zuid-Beveland with the mainland (North Brabant). Today the river therefore continues into the Westerschelde estuary only, passing Terneuzen to reach the North Sea between Breskens in Zeeuws-Vlaanderen and Vlissingen (Flushing) on Walcheren.
A river is a natural flowing watercourse, usually freshwater, flowing towards an ocean, sea, lake or another river. In some cases a river flows into the ground and becomes dry at the end of its course without reaching another body of water. Small rivers can be referred to using names such as stream, creek, brook, rivulet, and rill. There are no official definitions for the generic term river as applied to geographic features, although in some countries or communities a stream is defined by its size. Many names for small rivers are specific to geographic location; examples are "run" in some parts of the United States, "burn" in Scotland and northeast England, and "beck" in northern England. Sometimes a river is defined as being larger than a creek, but not always: the language is vague.
Rivers are part of the hydrological cycle. Water generally collects in a river from precipitation through a drainage basin from surface runoff and other sources such as groundwater recharge, springs, and the release of stored water in natural ice and snowpacks (e.g. from glaciers). Potamology is the scientific study of rivers while limnology is the study of inland waters in general.
The Western Scheldt (Dutch: Westerschelde) in the province of Zeeland in the southwestern Netherlands, is the estuary of the Scheldt river. This river once had several estuaries, but the others are disconnected from the Scheldt, leaving the Westerschelde as its only direct way to the sea. It is an important shipping route to the Port of Antwerp, Belgium. Therefore, unlike the other sea arms, it is not closed by a dam as part of the Delta Works. Instead, the dykes around it have been heightened and reinforced.
Many ships have sunk in the Western Scheldt. Following an agreement between the Dutch and Belgian governments in 1995, many of these wrecks have been removed to improve shipping access to Antwerp. It was expected that the last 38 wrecks in the shipping channel would be removed during 2003. The largest wreck was the 131-metre (430 ft) long Alan A. Dale which was removed during June 2003.
The Western Scheldt was freed from German occupation in October and November 1944 by the First Canadian Army during The Battle of the Scheldt.

On August 14th the CSCL JUPITER has ran aground on the river Scheldt. She is to stuck to be pulled free by the tugboats at this moment. The red buoy is in the midde of the ship and the tide is dropping. The stern is in 15m depth water while the bow is aground.... This doesn't look very good. The cause of the grounding was due to failing rudder, and the emergency rudder equipment wasn't enough to steer her clear in the tight corner. She grounded at 13knots.

Shipping traffic to and from the port of Antwerp was suspended Monday after a large containership failed to make a turn (technical failure) and ran aground on the Scheldt river. The 366-meter CSCL Jupiter ran aground at about 9:50 local near Bath, Netherlands shortly after departing from the port of Antwerp headed for Hamburg, Germany. In October 1944, the 1st Canadian Army was assigned the mission to destroy German defences along the Scheldt River Estuary in Holland and Belgium, free the port of Antwerp and open up Allied supply lines. This was the last major military operation before the Rhineland. During two months of heavy fighting, the Canadians suffered 6,500 casualties. The battle for the Scheldt Estuary is a story that needs to be told. There were a number of circumstances, some of them tragic and pointless which, given time, will indicate that this battle wasone of the Allied Command's greatest military and strategic blunders. Against All Odds is produced, written, and narrated by Cliff Chadderton. He fought in the battle of the Scheldt as a Captain commanding a company of the Royal Winnipeg Rifles, and was wou...

So here today I'm playing on one of the most beloved and also one of the most HATED maps in all of Company of Heroes, the dreaded Scheldt. Where there is little room for error and even the most minor misstep can cost your life or the lives of your teammates. To win at this map teamwork is absolutely required in order to break the bitter and endless stalemate that is the Scheldt. The only way to breakthrough is to use artillery, whichever team can accumulate more units and break the enemy's back through sheer firepower will win.

I wanted to try it out after watching EmpireErwinRommel,Woodstock's, and others from my group of friends post their own videos. I'm just going to be posting basic replays from my own perspective, with no commentary (because I find that commentary can be somewhat annoying at times). So for those who are watching can enjoy the battle first hand. I fought a Multiplayer battle on the classical map of Vire River Valley as the Wehrmacht and I eventually went the Defense Doctrine. I hope you all will enjoy the long drawn out fight.

The Delta Works in the Netherlands (Holland) is the largest flood protection project in the world. This project consists of a number of surge barriers, for examples: 1- The Oosterscheldekering is the largest of the 13 ambitious Delta Works series of dams and storm surge barriers and it is the largest surge barrier in the world, 9 kilometres (5.6 mi) long. The dam is based on 65 concrete pillars with 62 steel doors, each 42 metres wide. It is designed to protect the Netherlands from flooding from the North Sea. 2- The Maeslantkering is a storm barrier with two movable arms; when the arms are open the waterway remains an important shipping route however when the arms close a protective storm barrier is formed for the city of Rotterdam. Closing the arms of the barrier is a completely auto...
Follow the Scheldt river from the Heusden bridge to the Nederbrugstraat in the centre of Gentbrugge in Belgium. The riverwalk is almost five kilometres long, and takes you past forested areas, beautiful bird songs and bird calls, authentic farms, fields of gold, various green landscapes and an old sluice. Walk along a short stretch of riverside with views of lovely gardens too. There are many more opportunities waiting for you.
Sluis to Baarle-Hertog (part one - to Antwerp) Leaving Sluis to cross back into Belgium, then riding along the Schipdonkkanaal to the picturesque city of Ghent and onwards to Antwerp and the surreal experience of cycling under the River Scheldt through the Sint Anna Tunnel.
Peter Benoit (17 August 1834 – 8 March 1901), was a Flemish composer of Belgian nationality. Oratorio "De Schelde" (1868) in Three Parts Text by Emanuel Hiel Marie-Louise Hendrickx, soprano, , Louis Devos, tenor Renaat Verbruggen, baritone Jan Joris, bass Omroepkoren of the B.R.T.; Eupener Mannerchor; Orchestre symphonique de la R.T.B.F., conducted by Leonce Gras. From a live open-air performance in Antwerp's Grote Markt, 1966. Benoit passionately pursued the founding of an entirely separate Flemish school, and to that purpose even changed his name from the French "Pierre" to the Dutch equivalent "Peter". Through prodigious effort he succeeded in gathering a small group of enthusiasts who recognized with him the potential for a Flemish school that would differ completely from the Frenc...

It was a glittering display of teamwork as Antwerp Diamonds shot to the ranking lead after stealing a sparkling win at their home venue for the third round of the Global Champions League. U25 team rider, and home hero Jos Verlooy (BEL) said “we came with the big guns - our aim was to win and we did, so I couldn’t be happier!” The Antwerp Diamonds have taken the top spot on the team ranking leaderboard, coming away from round three on 75 points, just two points ahead of Monaco Aces and Valkenswaard United, who are tied on 73 points apiece. Sluis to Baarle-Hertog (part two - Antwerp to Baarle-Hertog) . Starting with the crossing the Scheldt River through the Sint Anna Tunnel and leaving the gigantic building site that was Antwerp, then riding along the really pretty Dessel-Turnhout-Schoten Canal before turning North and on to the bizarre town of Baarle-Hertog (or Baarle-Nassau if you're in a Dutch bit.)
The Meuse rises in Pouilly-en-Bassigny, commune of Le Châtelet-sur-Meuse on the Langres plateau in France from where it flows northwards past Sedan (the head of navigation) and Charleville-Mézières into Belgium.[4] At Namur it is joined by the River Sambre. Beyond Namur the Meuse winds eastwards, skirting the Ardennes, and passes Liège before turning north. The river then forms part of the Belgian-Dutch border, except that at Maastricht the border lies further to the west. In the Netherlands it continues northwards through Venlo closely along the border to Germany, then turns towards the west, where it runs parallel to the Waal and forms part of the extensive Rhine–Meuse–Scheldt delta, together with the Scheldt river in its south and the Rhine in the north. The river has been divided near...
Child you're talking of freedom
Painted on your garden wall
It's not there at all
Child you're talking of wisdom
You say wisdom is a golden rule
You ain't no fool
But you don't know who it is
Who calls you name
In the light of the golden moon
You don't know who it is who brought you here
And chained up your heart
So soon
Child you're life is a fairytale
And it's not the same
And the clouds
You're hiding behind
In your misty mind have disappeared
Like a sailor far from the shores of your dreams
And far from the love of your home
Sailor lost on your own misty seas
And the chains on your heart, baby
Might be my love
Might be my love
It's so confusing
And you feel that you're loosing yourself
But, there over the mountain
You thought you'd never have to climb
There's a road
Reaching and stretching
To the corner of your mind
Like a river casts aside the dust
And grows and grows as it flows
The feeling deep inside of you
Must break like a dam
So set you free
So set you free
