Bhutan (/buːˈtɑːn/; Dzongkha འབྲུག་ཡུལ Dru Ü, IPA: [ʈʂɦu yː]), officially the Kingdom of Bhutan, is a landlocked country in South Asia at the eastern end of the Himalayas. It is bordered to the north by China and to the south, east and west by India. To the west, it is separated from Nepal by the Indian state of Sikkim, while farther south it is separated from Bangladesh by the Indian states of Assam and West Bengal. Bhutan's capital and largest city is Thimphu.
Bhutan existed as a patchwork of minor warring fiefs until the early 17th century. At that time the lama and military leader Ngawang Namgyal, the first Zhabdrung Rinpoche, who was fleeing religious persecution in Tibet, unified the area and cultivated a distinct Bhutanese identity. In the early 20th century, Bhutan came into contact with the British Empire and retained strong bilateral relations with India upon its independence. In 2006, based on a global survey, Business Week rated Bhutan the happiest country in Asia and the eighth-happiest in the world.

Ruler of tiny Asian nation added to the list of this year's royal weddings.
Bhutan young king has shocked people by saying that it was his re-birth after 824 years. The young King toured Nagarjunakonda in Andhra Pradesh along with his grand-mother. The three-year boy has reminded the diary of historic events that took place many years ago. He said that India was his birth place and he studied at Nalanda University when he was 16 years old. In March 2013. I had a trip to 3 countries which surround the 3 different sides of the Himalaya ranges. They are India, Bhutan and Nepal. I was not going by myself as usual. I was with 13 other Vietnamese men. Never been with such so many men in my life, hehe! My first impression of India started from me being on the Indian airplane. I was frustrated to learn that with over 200 people who were on board, among which there were roughly only about 5 to 6 women. So Indian women don’t fly? Or there are too many Indian men in this world? Reading all those news about raping in India would seriously scared a bit of hell out of me. I knew I was with 13 men but I was not sure even them would be safe, hehe! This is not anything offended, it’s just a fact, so don’t take it too seriously with me! But ...

Bhutan is one of the cleanest, most peaceful and beautiful places I have visited. The people are amazing, food is healthy, nature is bountiful and the air purer than anywhere else on Earth.
Shrouded in cloud cover amongst the peaks of the eastern Himalayas, I have found that the Kingdom of Bhutan was one of the most exceptional countries I have been privileged enough to visit, known globally for its friendly people and immense landscape. It has up until recently been a country closed to tourists and even now, access to the country remains difficult, with only 100,000 tourist visas being granted each year. This decision to limit tourism within Bhutan is an idea that was created to maintain the culture and tradition of its people, as well as minimise the environmental footprint that travellers place within the country itself. Led by an enigmatic King, as well as a government that tries to ensure above all else an aspect of politics that is not seen anywhere else in the world - ...

Jakar Dzong in Bumthang: Jakar (Dzongkha: བྱ་ཀར ; Wylie: Bya-kar) is a town in the central-eastern region of Bhutan. It is the district capital (dzongkhag thromde) of Bumthang District and the location of Jakar Dzong, the regional dzong fortress. The name Jakar roughly translates as "white bird" in reference to its foundation myth, according to which a roosting white bird signaled the proper and auspicious location to found a monastery around 1549 Jakar is located in Bumthang (Choekhor) Valley within Chhoekhor Gewog in central Bumthang. Administratively, however, Jakar is a separate thromde (municipality) inside the gewog. The administrative office for the Choekhor Gewog is located in the northern suburbs of Jakar. Just north of Jakar lies Wangchuck Centennial Park, a protected area of B...
Video with images of ancient monuments at Jakar in the central-eastern region of Bhutan. It was the capital of a former kingdom in the fertile mountain valley of the Bumthang river. In the eighth century the local king was converted to Buddhism by guru Rinpoche. He and his later successors ordered the construction of many temples, monasteries and other religious monuments. In the seventeenth century the kingdom was incorporated by the first shabdrung and united with other areas in Bhutan. In the nineteenth century it was the summer residence of the first monarchs of the new kingdom. Later the center of all administrative power and religious activities shifted to the west. Nevertheless the region kept its historical and cultural significance as a national cradle of Buddhism. Wangdichholin...
The Jakar Yugyel Dzong, commonly known as the Jakar Dzong, is located in the Chamkhar valley of Bumthang, situated on a ledge above Bjakar village. Jakar Dzong or Jakar Yugyal Dzong is the dzong of the Bumthang District in central Bhutan. It is located on a ridge above Jakar town in the Chamkhar valley of Bumthang. It is built on the site of an earlier temple established by the Ralung hierarch Yongzin Ngagi Wangchuk (1517--1554) when he came to Bhutan. Jakar Dzong may be the largest dzong in Bhutan, with a circumference of more than 1,500 metres (4,900 ft). The name Jakar derives from the word bjakhab, meaning "white bird", in reference to Jakar's foundation myth, according to which a roosting white bird signaled the proper and auspicious location to found a monastery around 1549 and was ...

Although I tried to round up my experience in Bhutan in this short movie, it only captured a fraction of it. I haven't been able to do justice to the Bhutan's beauty and wonderful friends I've made. To understand why it is the 'happiest country' in the world, you have to experience Bhutan on your own. I hope to visit the country again for a longer period. Till then, I can't wait to be back and spend time with my friends at the Phajoding Monastery. Must visit place according to me (Other than the common tourist places):- If you are fit enough you must hike up to the Phajoding Monastery in Thimphu which is at about 12,500 ft above sea level the hike took us about 3.5 hours. Oxygen level is about 35% less than at sea level (I might be wrong) At the monastery we were served lunch by the monk...

Wednesday James got first hand experience of the challenge ahead as we travelled in reverse to the starting venue Bumthang in central Bhutan. The previous day he experienced one of the long down hills from a pass, and today decided to cycle the full climb from around 2000m to the top of the Pele La pass area at 3390m as training for one of the 4 passes he’ll have to do on race day. Long winding climbs to the top with 30+ C temperatures were a real test with broken tarmac roads and mud-covered routes. Having been in and out of the car filming I decided to pop the cameras on the bike and join James. Jumping on to mountain bike at 3000m to climb was a bad move and very hard work! Rewarded however by a long descent into an area that I had never previously visited and famous for its black crane...

You think it might be too late
But it's never even been time
Realize now that the ice
is meant to melt
And no one feels sorry
For the good times
Is it time to accept
Shall we smile and rest
Is it meant to be like this
If it's meant to be like this
