Hagen Rether: LIEBE (Update 2016) - 3sat festival 2016
Nach einer längeren Fernsehpause war Hagen Rether 2015 wieder einmal zu Gast beim 3satfestival. Am Ende der Aufzeichnung musste er feststellen: 45 Minuten reichen bei Weitem nicht aus, um all seine Gedanken zur Weltlage mitzuteilen. So kehrt er in diesem Jahr zurück ins Zelt auf dem Lerchenberg – schließlich ist die Welt im vergangenen Jahr nicht einfacher, sicherer oder gar besser geworden.
Unter der Oberfläche
Hagen Rether stellt sich der Gegenwart in all ihrer Komplexität. Mit scheinbar naiven Fragen, klugen Einwänden und mutigen Antworten bringt er ein wenig gedankliches Licht in eine recht finstere Welt: ein undurchsichtiges Geflecht aus politischen und wirtschaftlichen Abhängigkeiten, ein kapitalistisches System, das sich füttert mit Spekulationen auf Kriege und Katastrophen, das mit Grundnahrungsmitteln zockt und dabei vorgibt, dem Wohle der Menschheit zu dienen.
Es ist eine ungerechte Welt, die Hagen Rether mit sanfter Stimme gnadenlos beschreibt: Er lässt Strippenzieher und Marionetten, Strohmänner und Sündenböcke aufziehen, enttarnt absichtsvolle Ablenkungsmanöver und ent-täuscht, um Erkenntnis zu wecken.
LIEBE und Enttäuschung
Als Hagen Rether vor rund zwanzig Jahren auf die Bühne ging, spielte er Klavierabende mit kurzen Moderationen. Nach und nach wuchs das Bedürfnis zu erzählen; die absurden Ungerechtigkeiten der kapitalistischen Gesellschaft brennen ihm sichtbar auf der Seele. Ein Zyniker sei ein enttäuschter Idealist, sagt man. Für Hagen Rether scheint diese Beschreibung perfekt zu passen.
LIEBE heißt sein ständig aktualisiertes Programm seit vielen Jahren – im Programm findet man sie nur versteckt: als Sehnsucht, als Möglichkeit zur Umkehr noch am Abgrund. Unübersehbar noch immer die Menschenliebe des Künstlers, der allzu gern von einer besseren Welt träumen würde, aber kaum noch dran glauben mag.
Oberflächliches Gutmenschentum lässt Hagen Rether nicht durchgehen. Sein Kabarett ist kein Ablasshandel. Es sind Abende voller Erkenntnisgewinn und Aufklärung im besten Sinne, die lange nachwirken. Man kann mit Hagen Rether lachen oder weinen oder beides zugleich – vergessen wird man ihn nicht.

Hagen (German pronunciation: [ˈhaːɡən]) is the 41st-largest city in Germany, located in the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia. It is located on the south eastern edge of the Ruhr area, 15 km south of Dortmund, where the rivers Lenne and Volme (met by the river Ennepe) meet the river Ruhr. As of 31 December 2010 the population was 188,529. The city is home to the FernUniversität Hagen, which is the only state funded distance education university in Germany. Counting more than 67,000 students (March 2010), it is the largest university in Germany.
History
Hagen was first mentioned ca. 1200, presumably the name of a farm at the junction of the Volme and the Ennepe. After the conquest of Burg Volmarstein in 1324, Hagen passed to the County of Mark. In 1614 it was awarded to the Margraviate of Brandenburg according to the Treaty of Xanten. In 1701 it became part of the Kingdom of Prussia.
After the defeat of Prussia in the Fourth Coalition, Hagen was incorporated into the Grand Duchy of Berg from 1807–13. In 1815 it became part of the new Prussian Province of Westphalia.

Hagen Rether
Hagen Rether (born October 8, 1969 in Bucharest) is a German political cabaret artist and musician. The most remarkable features in his performance are usually the presence and use of a grand piano. He was a frequent contributor to the German Kabarett TV show Scheibenwischer.
Among the topics Rether relates to are not only federal, state and international politics, but also religion, media, consumerism and globalization.
Biography
Hagen Rether spent his childhood in Bucharest and Sibiu, Romania as the son of German, Transylvanian Saxon parents of Siebenbürgen. In 1973, his family relocated to (West) Germany settling in Freiburg im Breisgau. He began studying the piano at eight years of age and attended the Folkwang Hochschule in Essen, where he still lives today (2008).
Prior to touring with his solo show, he was the pianist in Ludger Stratmann's show as well as performing with other artists. Since 2003 he has presented his show "Liebe" (en.: Love), which he constantly updates and varies according to the contemporary requirements of every performance.

Nina Hagen
Catharina "Nina" Hagen (born 11 March 1955) is a German actress and singer. Born in the former East Berlin, capital of the German Democratic Republic, Hagen first pursued her career in the mid-1970s. In 1974, she joined the band Automobil. During that time she appeared in a number of German movies. After moving to West Berlin in 1976, she formed the Nina Hagen Band and signed with CBS Records. The band released two albums before Hagen decided to pursue her career as a solo artist.
In 1982, she again signed with CBS Records and released her first solo album, NunSexMonkRock. She later released two more records under the label—the Fearless (produced by Giorgio Moroder in 1983) and Nina Hagen in Ekstasy (1985). Her contract with the label expired in 1986 and was not renewed. She remained popular, making tours and appearances on TV shows. In 1987, the single "Punk Wedding" was released and in 1988, Hagen wrote her autobiography, Ich bin ein Berliner.
Mercury Records offered Hagen a contract in 1989, prompting her to release the eponymous Nina Hagen, an album described as having a more soulful theme than her previous works. She continued to release more albums and tour during the 1990s and 2000s.

Plot: A truck driver stops on a rainy road at night to help a stranded motorist, but it turns out to be a ruse--he is attacked, knocked out and his truck stolen. Nach einer längeren Fernsehpause war Hagen Rether 2015 wieder einmal zu Gast beim 3satfestival. Am Ende der Aufzeichnung musste er feststellen: 45 Minuten reichen bei Weitem nicht aus, um all seine Gedanken zur Weltlage mitzuteilen. So kehrt er in diesem Jahr zurück ins Zelt auf dem Lerchenberg – schließlich ist die Welt im vergangenen Jahr nicht einfacher, sicherer oder gar besser geworden.

Copenhagen is like something out of a fairy tale, full of multicolored houses and boats that tie up at Copenhagen’s wharves.
Next, rent a bike. With almost 250 miles of bicycle lanes, getting around two wheels is a healthy, athletic way to get to know the city. Ride your bike to Nyhavn, a waterfront district that dates back to the 17th century. This is the spot to make friends at the local pubs, or to simply sit and watch the boats go back and forth over the waters of the Oresund. Nyhavn is also home to “The Little Mermaid,” a statue fashioned after the titular character in the Hans Christian Andersen tale. Make sure you bring your camera, as the mermaid is a popular place for a photo op.

Most of their traditional dress consists of magnificent feathers and plants and a strip of material worn around their neck is meant to protect them from evil spirits. Despite the discovery of their existence in the twentieth century the simple lifestyle of the Dani of West Papua continues to be intriguing, mysterious and totally fascinating.

It took me nearly 20 hours to get from Bangkok to Mount Hagen in the western highlands of Papua New Guinea, travelling via Singapore and Port Moresby. My first impressions of the country’s third-largest city were of crowds and bustle, despite the lack of tourists who flock there during festival times. Their positive effect, though, was felt; I and my small group of fellow foreigners were warmly welcomed with customary waves and smiles from the locals as we drove through the town and up to our mountainside hotel.
From my base at the cozy Rondon Ridge Lodge, at an elevation of 5,000 feet, the views of the Wahgi valley and the city below were stunning and I was keen to get out and explore. The rolling hills around Mount Hagen are lush and fertile, and everywhere you travel, the land is being farmed for sweet potatoes, corn, cabbage, tea, coffee and various other crops while, further up, the rainforest covering the rugged limestone peaks becomes more wild.
A 45-minute drive took me to Moika village, where I was greeted by the sight of a group of a dozen or so young boys from the indigenous Jika tribe training how to “fight war”. Most held spears or axes, some covered in white mud, and a teacher watched as they practised. After observing for 30 minutes or so, I had a chat with the kids and we asked each other lots of questions. They were very surprised to learn that we don’t fight with spears and practice war in the U.S. One child asked me what our festivals were like, and they seemed very puzzled to learn how different things are where I came from; some even seemed to find it silly that we don’t do things the same way. As we chatted, I photographed them and sent the pictures to my wife – a concept that baffled them. Not only do these kids not have TVs, Nintendos or access to the internet, it struck me that they have very little idea about the outside world or what people do in other countries.
Later, we drove onwards to another village where we met the chief. A friendly, elderly man, he proudly showed us around his village, encouraging us to pay particular attention to the spirit house, decorated with skulls and various wood carvings. On our tour I noticed how everyone kept very large pigs, and my guide told me that to the men of Papua New Guinea, only three things matter: land, women and pigs – in that order. This was brought strongly home to me later when one of the staff at my hotel had to rush home because his sister had been hacked to death over a disagreement about a pig.
As we headed back to Rondon Ridge, the temperature dropped with the sun and the night outside the lodge was a chilly one. The following day dawned bright, however, as we headed to nearby Kolgngi village, home of the Moge tribe. Here, we were met by a dozen or so men, women and children from the village, who demonstrated to us their traditional funeral rites. As we looked on, the whole village began to cry in unison as the chief lit an impressive fire using a rope and some leaves. The group proceeded to walk around the pyre, still crying, as they brought out a “body”, which was carried around the procession and finally placed in a grave and covered with soil. Though the ritual was very interesting to watch, it felt a little contrived since no one had really died. After the ceremony and a chat with some locals, we continued our journey to the Tokua village to meet the Nogopa tribe.
Walking down a dirt path, an old bearded man stood sentry with a bow and arrow — we were assured this was typical, as the village people want to know if you are a friend or enemy before letting you pass. Though he welcomed us warmly and showed us around his home, the man told us how he has killed five men during disputes with other villages – an ominous indication of how relations between tribes used to be in the not-so-distant past.
This was just the first fascinating lesson we were to learn in Tokua; in a small hut we met an old witch doctor who communicates with spirits in order to cure illnesses. Further into the village, a group of men performed a “Moka” ceremony for us in which a fire was lit and the burning leaves crackled like fireworks. They sat, chanted and walked around the fire and then around a particular tree; afterward, we had the chance to talk and exchange life experiences with the interesting tribesfolk of Papua New Guinea, who proved to be just as intrigued by us as we were by them.

As you walk east through Gion, you’ll find even more old architecture, including several Ryokan, or traditional Japanese inns. Many date back to the Edo period, which ranged from 1603 to 1868.
During your Kyoto tour, take a rickshaw ride to the Sannen-zaka and Ninen-zaka districts, where cars are prohibited and traditional teahouses and temples adorn the nearby landscape. Kyoto is known as “The City of Ten Thousand Shrines” for good reason. Walk through the great open plazas of the Haian Shrine, or spend a quiet moment in the intimate confines of the Shorenin Temple and its beautiful gardens.
The most famous of Kyoto’s temples is Fushimi Inari-taisha, a stunning red complex that sprawls over Mount Inari, which is named after and dedicated to Inari, the fox spirit. A hike to the summit takes about two hours, and will lead you through thousands of colorful sub-shrines and thick, ancient forest. Once you’re at the top, you’ll have a stunning view of Kyoto.
