San Francisco (/sæn frənˈsɪskoʊ/), officially the City and County of San Francisco, is the cultural, commercial, and financial center of Northern California and the only consolidated city-county in California. San Francisco encompasses a land area of about 46.9 square miles (121 km2) on the northern end of the San Francisco Peninsula, which makes it the smallest county in the state. It has a density of about 18,187 people per square mile (7,022 people per km2), making it the most densely settled large city (population greater than 200,000) in the state of California and the second-most densely populated major city in the United States after New York City. San Francisco is the fourth-most populous city in California, after Los Angeles, San Diego and San Jose, and the 13th-most populous city in the United States—with a Census-estimated 2014 population of 852,469. The city and its surrounding areas are known as the San Francisco Bay Area, and are a part of the larger OMB designated San Jose-San Francisco-Oakland combined statistical area, the fifth most populous in the nation with an estimated population of 8.6 million.
San Francisco Bay is a shallow estuary that drains water from approximately 40% of California. Water from the Sacramento and San Joaquin rivers, and from the Sierra Nevada mountains, passes through the Bay to the Pacific Ocean. Specifically, both rivers flow into Suisun Bay, which flows through the Carquinez Strait to meet with the Napa River at the entrance to San Pablo Bay, which connects at its south end to San Francisco Bay. However, the entire group of interconnected bays is often called the San Francisco Bay.
San Francisco Bay is in the U.S. state of California, surrounded by a contiguous region known as the San Francisco Bay Area (often simply "the Bay Area"), dominated by the large cities San Francisco, Oakland, and San Jose. The waterway entrance to San Francisco Bay from the Pacific Ocean is called the Golden Gate. Across the strait spans the Golden Gate Bridge. The bay was designated a Ramsar Wetland of International Importance on February 2, 2013.
The bay covers somewhere between 400 and 1,600 square miles (1,040 to 4,160 square kilometers), depending on which sub-bays (such as San Pablo Bay), estuaries, wetlands, and so on are included in the measurement. The main part of the Bay measures 3 to 12 miles (5 to 20 km) wide east-to-west and somewhere between 48 miles (77 km)1 and 60 miles (97 km)2 north-to-south. It is the largest Pacific estuary in the Americas.
Francisco is the Spanish and Portuguese form of the masculine given name Franciscus (corresponding to English Francis).
In Spanish, people with the name Francisco sometimes are nicknamed "Paco": San Francisco de Asís was known as Pater Comunitatis (The Community father) when he founded the Franciscan order, "Paco" is a short form of "Pater Comunitatis". Also, in Spanish Latin America and in the Philippines, people with the name Francisco are called "Pancho". "Kiko" is also used as a nickname in the Philippines.
In Portuguese, people named Francisco are commonly nicknamed "Chico" (shíco) or "Kiko". This is also a less-common nickname for Francisco in Spanish too.
The San Francisco Bay Area is a populous region surrounding the San Francisco and San Pablo estuaries in Northern California. The region encompasses the major cities and metropolitan areas of San Francisco, Oakland, and San Jose, along with smaller urban and rural areas. The Bay Area's nine counties are Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano, and Sonoma. Home to approximately 7.44 million people, the nine-county Bay Area contains many cities, towns, airports, and associated regional, state, and national parks, connected by a network of roads, highways, railroads, bridges, tunnels and commuter rail. The combined statistical area of the region is the second-largest in California (after the Greater Los Angeles area), the fifth-largest in the United States, and the 43rd-largest urban area in the world.
The United States Office of Management and Budget (OMB) does not use the nine-county definition of the San Francisco Bay Area. The OMB has designated a more extensive 12-county Combined Statistical Area (CSA) titled the San Jose-San Francisco-Oakland, CA Combined Statistical Area which also includes the three counties of San Joaquin, Santa Cruz, and San Benito that do not border San Francisco Bay, but are economically tied to the nine counties that do.
The Golden Gate is the North American strait that connects San Francisco Bay to the Pacific Ocean. It is defined by the headlands of the San Francisco Peninsula and the Marin Peninsula, and, since 1937, has been spanned by the Golden Gate Bridge.
During the last Ice Age, when sea level was several hundred feet lower, the waters of the glacier-fed Sacramento River and the San Joaquin River scoured a deep channel through the bedrock on their way to the ocean. The strait is well known today for its depth and powerful tidal currents from the Pacific Ocean. Many small whirlpools and eddies can form in its waters. With its strong currents, rocky reefs and fog, the Golden Gate is the site of over 100 shipwrecks.
The Golden Gate is often shrouded in fog, especially during the summer. Heat generated in the California Central Valley causes air there to rise, creating a low pressure area that pulls in cool, moist air from over the Pacific Ocean. The Golden Gate forms the largest break in the hills of the California Coast Range, allowing a persistent, dense stream of fog to enter the bay there.

On a dark, drizzly day in the San Francisco Bay Area, Petrolicious caught up with Ivan Jaramillo, the owner of not just one, but two Skylines: the Hakosuka and the Kenmeri. With epic histories, straight sixes and little effort, both cars roared through redwood groves and past horse ranches on Lucas Valley Road before posing for their close ups along the bay. In this feature interview, Ivan passionately describes his love of Japanese automobiles and more specifically the Hakosuka and the Kenmeri. Not surprisingly, a common focus of the cinematic avant-garde during this era was on the power, and excitement of cities. In both Europe and the US, a small genre of films that became know as 'city symphonies' attempted to capture the spirit, uniqueness, and poetry of a city by assembling images of everyday life in that city. These early films and their offsprings often utilized what film historian Bill Nichols has termed the 'poeti...

Scott Weaver's amazing piece, made with over 100,000 toothpicks over the course of 35 years, is a depiction of San Francisco, with multiple ball runs that allow you to go on "tours" of different parts of the city. It will be on display in the Tinkering Studio until June 19th! http://tinkering.exploratorium.edu
I have to say this is the sickest car show I've been to in a long time. The cars, atmosphere and the beautiful weather hit the spot. Originally coming from Guam and being able to make it out to film this event was a HUGE thing for me, especially this being my first event coverage stateside. Huge thanks to Jimmy Uy and Mark Arcenal for hooking me up with some of the bay's finest rides to shoot for the intro part of this video. Special thanks to: Fatlace for giving me the opportunity to cover this event for them. The second in a series of city symphonies. First, New York (www.vimeo.com/51875528). Third, Seattle (www.vimeo.com/66702557). Fourth, Hong Kong (https://vimeo.com/154109778). Fifth, Prague (https://vimeo.com/155171314). "In the the 1920s the movies were still relatively young, and an evolving modernist aesthetic embraced all things new, sleek, fast, and urban.

I bathed in the water of the wrath
I like to count the money bitch I like to do the math
You’re sneaky like a left jab over hand right
I’m Friday night fights in the Memphis bright lights
I got a suit passion
I like to dress in the high fashion
Broke hos with good jokes keep me laughin’
I talk shit behind the tint of my Benz
As my driver goes 90 over da Bay Bridge
It’s like smokin’ weed all up in heaven
My God is a 7
And yo I’m a 3 11
That’s 14
I sport Jordan’s when I wear jeans
I’m in the hills of Tahoe throwing on my high beams
I like to wear rings
A couple pretty things
I sport leather on a bitch
If the city rains
We do drugs on a polar bear rug
If your man is a pimp
Don’t expect no love
It’s all upgrade
My new shades block the sun rays
Tupac on every Sunday
It’s all upgrade
My new shades block the sun rays
Tupac on every Sunday
I unwrap the plastic off the swisher
Grab your telephone bitch you can take a picture
Pour it like its liquor but move a little quicka
We live by the gun so we die by the trigger
That’s word of life
Man have you ever seen a fiend’s pipe?
It’s as dark as 12 a.m.
even in the sun light
I lose my train of thought until you say the cost
I gotta bookie that love when I take a loss
I gotta prohibition mind state
about the crime rate
No love bitch on a blind date
You get a repo reaction from the people
Down here we bump C-Bo
We sport Filas and Adidas and Perry Ellis
Them bitches might be fine but them hos be getting jealous
It’s high fashion car crashin suit matchin
Talkin shit on the freeway laughin
I gotta sweet tooth
I like candy paint
I talk shit to a bitch
Til the ho faint
I gotta sweet tooth
I like candy paint
I talk shit to a bitch
Til the ho faint
Get the New Testament
You get the tour and the estimate
Rhyme crime up in your residence
The camera lens is not a friend
it just offends
so I talk alotta shit behind the tint of my Benz
on I-80 880 980 580
280 Aw Baby
All aboard like a train
My young homie said he’s like an old man
Cuz he’s gotta push cane
Like a dime
To design
it never rhyme
My soul it never dies just like the Holy Qur’an
And on the scale
It’s like bail
And killer whales
Get at me early baby
Something like a clearance sale
I open up
I let you know
about the cost
I eat a pork chop with a deep money thought
I open up
I let you know
about the cost
I eat a pork chop with a deep money thought
Like a dead poet
And you know
Cuz you show it
I’m driving down to San Jose and I like to floor it
Like a dead poet
And you know
Cuz you show it
