The visual arts are art forms such as ceramics, drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, design, crafts, photography, video, filmmaking and architecture. Many artistic disciplines (performing arts, conceptual art, textile arts) involve aspects of the visual arts as well as arts of other types. Also included within the visual arts are the applied arts such as industrial design, graphic design, fashion design, interior design and decorative art.
Current usage of the term "visual arts" includes fine art as well as the applied, decorative arts and crafts, but this was not always the case. Before the Arts and Crafts Movement in Britain and elsewhere at the turn of the 20th century, the term 'artist' was often restricted to a person working in the fine arts (such as painting, sculpture, or printmaking) and not the handicraft, craft, or applied art media. The distinction was emphasized by artists of the Arts and Crafts Movement, who valued vernacular art forms as much as high forms.Art schools made a distinction between the fine arts and the crafts, maintaining that a craftsperson could not be considered a practitioner of the arts.

Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc. (SPE) is the American entertainment subsidiary of Sony Entertainment Inc., a subsidiary of Japanese multinational technology and media conglomerate Sony.
Based in Culver City, California, it encompasses Sony's motion picture, television production and distribution units. Its group sales in March 31, 2015 has been reported to be of $7.3 billion.
Throughout the years, SPE has produced, distributed, or co-distributed successful franchises such as Spider-Man, Men in Black, Underworld, and Resident Evil.
Sony Pictures Entertainment is a member of the Motion Picture Association of America.
On September 1, 1987, The Coca-Cola Company announced plans to spin-off its assets of Columbia Pictures, which they had owned since 1982. Under this arrangement, Coca-Cola would sell their entertainment assets to Tri-Star Pictures, of which they owned 39.6%. Tri-Star would be renamed to Columbia Pictures Entertainment, Inc. (CPE), with Coca-Cola owning 49%, its shareholders owning 31%, and Tri-Star's shareholders owning 20%. A new company was formed in early 1988 with the Tri-Star name to take over the studio's production operations.
Sony Pictures Animation is an American animated film production company owned by Sony Pictures Entertainment, founded in May 2002. It works closely with Sony Pictures Imageworks, which handles digital production. Theatrical releases are distributed by Columbia Pictures, and direct-to-video releases are distributed by Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. The studio's franchises include Open Season, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, The Smurfs and Hotel Transylvania.
In 2001, Sony Pictures Entertainment considered selling off its visual effects facility Sony Pictures Imageworks. After failing to find a suitable buyer, having been impressed with the CGI sequences created for Stuart Little 2, and seeing the box office success of Shrek and Monsters, Inc., SPI was reconfigured to become an animation studio. Astro Boy, which had been in development at Sony since 1997 as a live-action film, was set to be SPI's first all-CGI film. In May 2002, Sony Pictures Animation was established to develop characters, stories and movies, with SPI taking over the digital production while maintaining its visual effects production. Meanwhile, SPI produced two short films, The ChubbChubbs! and Early Bloomer, as a result of testing its strengths and weakness in producing all-CG animation.
Camilla d'Errico is a Canadian comic book illustrator, painter and visual artist.
D'Errico is a first generation Canadian, born in Ottawa, Ontario. Her Italian parents immigrated to Canada before she was born. From a young age her early interests included Saturday morning cartoons, comics, manga and doodling fantasy elements in her textbooks.
Camilla d’Errico eschewed a 9-to-5 job for a career in comics upon attending her first San Diego Comic Con in 1998. She has been drawing comic books since 2001, while attaining her Illustration and Design diploma at Capilano College in North Vancouver. Her first professional comic book project was with Seattle and New York based Committed Comics, for the series Threads. She then took on the role of lead penciler for the four-part mini series Zevon-7. When Zevon-7 creator Quenton Shaw launched QEW Publishing in 2004, Camilla’s creator-owned manga series, Burn, was added to the studio’s project base and was subsequently published by Arcana Studios in May 2008.

What is the purpose and value of Art education in the 21st Century? Foley makes the case the Art’s critical value is to develop learners that think like Artists which means learners who are creative, curious, that seek questions, develop ideas, and play. For that to happen society will need to stop the pervasive, problematic and cliché messaging that implies that creativity is somehow defined as artistic skill. This shift in perception will give educators the courage to teach for creativity, by focusing on three critical habits that artist employ, 1. Comfort with Ambiguity, 2. Idea Generation, and 3. Transdisciplinary Research. This change can make way for Center’s for Creativity in our schools and museums where ideas are king and curiosity reigns. Cindy Meyers Foley is the Executive Ass...

This meetup event provided an opportunity to learn more about accessibility initiatives at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago. Anna Chiaretta Lavatelli and Susan Chun, from the museum’s Design, Publishing, and New Media division, along with Sina Bahram, the museum’s accessibility consultant, discussed the program to enhance access to visual art on the museum’s website (mcachicago.org), and demonstrate a newly-launched software tool, Coyote, that empowers the staff of the MCA to develop visual descriptions of art and images for blind and visually impaired website visitors. They also discussed the process of describing and about the ways that an institutional values shift enabled a cross-museum collaboration to create accessible content for the web. When Video Came is a fascinating look at the history of video art in the U.S. from the critical perspective of seminal media artists. Visually stimulating, this documentary portraits the development of the technological image and its influence in our culture as well as the complex relationship that exist between the independent producer and the established mass-media. Sharp testimonials and ad-hoc visuals raise important questions about the role of the individual in a culture dominated by broadcast monopolies that promote an alarming unilateral view of the world. This video is also a call for a media aware society and the creative empowerment of our citizens. Featuring: John Hanhardt, Martha Rosler, Dara Birnbaum, Chip Lord, Bill Viola, Mary Lucier, William Wegman, Antonio Muntadas, Gene...
