3:00PM Discussion

We will gather at noon to share food, solidarity and our New Year's revolutionary resolutions. At 1:30 pm we will screen the film "Freedom Road"

(1979, 96 min, English), starring Muhammad Ali as Gideon Jackson, an ex-slave in 1870's Virginia who gets elected to the U.S. Senate in Washington D.C. and battles together with other former slaves and white sharecroppers to keep the land they tended all their lives.

A discussion will follow the film. We will also be discussing the pamphlet "The Lowry Wars: Attacking North Carolina's Plantation Society in the Age of Reconstruction." A PDF of the pamphlet is available here. Plain text is available here.
