Ithaca College is a coeducational, nonsectarian private college located on the South Hill of Ithaca, New York, United States. The school was founded by William Egbert in 1892 as a conservatory of music. The college has a strong liberal arts core, but also offers several pre-professional programs and some graduate programs. The college is also known internationally for its communications program, the Roy H. Park School of Communications, which was most recently ranked as a top school for journalism, film and media. The college is set against the backdrop of Cayuga Lake, the city of Ithaca, and several waterfalls and gorges. The college is perhaps best known for its large list of alumni who play or have played substantial roles in the worlds of media and entertainment.
Ithaca College has been ranked among the top ten master's universities in the North by U.S. News & World Report every year since 1996. For the 2014 rankings, the college was ranked eighth in this category. Ithaca College is also consistently named among the best colleges in the nation by Princeton Review, with the annual guide also ranking the college at #1 for radio and #7 for theater.
Ithaca or Ithaka (/ˈɪθəkə/; Greek: Ιθάκη, Ithakē [iˈθaci]) is a Greek island located in the Ionian Sea, off the northeast coast of Kefalonia and to the west of continental Greece.
Ithaca has an area of 120 square kilometres (46 sq mi) and a little more than three thousand inhabitants. It is the second-smallest of seven main Ionian Islands, after Paxi. Ithaka is a separate regional unit of the Ionian Islands region, and the only municipality of the regional unit. The capital, Vathy or Ithaki, has one of the world's largest natural harbours.
Modern Ithaca is generally identified with Homer's Ithaca, the home of Odysseus, whose delayed return to the island is one of the elements of the Odyssey's plot.
The fact that classical Greek authors often used eponymous explanations to explain away names through folk etymology makes it more likely that Ithakos derives from Ithaca rather than vice versa.
Although the name Ithaca has remained unchanged since ancient times, written documents of different periods also refer to the city by other names, such as:
College (Latin: collegium) is an educational institution or a constituent part of one. Usage of the word college varies in English-speaking nations. A college may be a degree-awarding tertiary educational institution, a part of a collegiate university, or an institution offering vocational education.
In the United States and Italy, "college" formally refers to a constituent part of a university, but generally "college" and "university" are used interchangeably, whereas in Oceania and South Asia, "college" may refer to a secondary or high school, a college of further education, a training institution that awards trade qualifications, or a constituent part of a university (See this comparison of British and American English educational terminology for further information).
In ancient Rome a collegium was a club or society, a group of people living together under a common set of rules (con- = "together" + leg- = "law" or lego = "I choose" or "I read").

The Cornell University and Ithaca College Republicans organized a display to honor the memory of the nearly 3000 lives lost on that day in 2001. Each flag represents a victim. We were happy to receive lots of thanks for honoring the anniversary. Others were not so happy that we were "glorifying" such an event. This was not meant to cause a stir nor accuse anyone, but to remember the lives lost in one of the worst terrorist attacks in history. Special thanks to the Ithaca chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Young America's Foundation
Ithaca College History Club, October 2010, Ithaca, New York. Employing excerpts from the Bateaux Below film, "The Lost Radeau," Joseph "Zarr" Zarzynski, a 1973 graduate of Ithaca College, tells the story of mapping and preserving important information about the sunken vessels of Lake George, while offering an overview of the French and Indian War (1755-1758). He describes how, in 1993, an underwater state park was established on the bottom of Lake George to provide divers access to a number of these sites, including the Land Tortoise, "the oldest intact war vessel in North America." In 1987, Zarr cofounded Bateaux Below, a nonprofit educational corporation established to promote historic preservation of sunken vessels in American waters, beginning with the Sunken Fleet of 1758.

Seeds need to get away from their parent plant to thrive. Seeds can be wind dispersed, carried by animals, or germinated by fire. A Cornell University student explains how the different seed dispersal mechanisms work. This STEM video is a co-production of Cornell University's Naturalist Outreach Program, the Ithaca College Park Media Lab, and NYS 4-H. Presentations guides to 'seed dispersal' can be found at the Naturalist Outreach webpage (http://blogs.cornell.edu/NaturalistOutreach). Check out other Naturalist Outreach videos.
