Saint Peter (Greek: Πέτρος Petros, Syriac/Aramaic: ܫܸܡܥܘܿܢ ܟܹ݁ܐܦ݂ܵܐ, Shemayon Keppa, Hebrew: שמעון בר יונה Shim'on Bar Yona, Latin: Petrus; died c. 64 AD), also known as Simon Peter, Simeon, or Simōn, according to the New Testament, was one of the Twelve Apostles of Jesus Christ, leaders of the early Christian Church. The Roman Catholic Church considers him to be the first Pope, ordained by Jesus in the "Rock of My Church" dialogue in Matthew 16:18. The ancient Christian churches all venerate Peter as a major saint and associate him with founding the Church of Antioch and later the Church in Rome, but differ about the authority of his various successors in present-day Christianity.
The New Testament indicates that Peter was the son of John (or Jonah or Jona) and was from the village of Bethsaida in the province of Galilee or Gaulanitis. His brother Andrew was also an apostle. According to New Testament accounts, Peter was one of twelve apostles chosen by Jesus from his first disciples. Originally a fisherman, he played a leadership role and was with Jesus during events witnessed by only a few apostles, such as the Transfiguration. According to the gospels, Peter confessed Jesus as the Messiah, was part of Jesus's inner circle, thrice denied Jesus, and preached on the day of Pentecost.
Peter often is used to refer to Saint Peter, a disciple of Jesus Christ. It can also refer to many other people, of which only a few are listed here. This page only lists people commonly referred to as "Peter" and nothing else; for others, please see List of people named Peter.
The Roman Empire (Latin: Imperium Rōmānum; Classical Latin: [ɪmˈpɛ.ri.ũː roːˈmaː.nũː] Ancient and Medieval Greek: Βασιλεία τῶν Ῥωμαίων, tr. Basileia tōn Rhōmaiōn) was the post-Roman Republic period of the ancient Roman civilization, characterized by government headed by emperors and large territorial holdings around the Mediterranean Sea in Europe, Africa and Asia. The extended city of Rome was the largest city in the world c. 100 BC – c. 400 AD, with Constantinople (New Rome) becoming the largest around 500 AD, and the Empire's populace grew to an estimated 50 to 90 million inhabitants (roughly 20% of the world's population at the time). The 500-year-old republic which preceded it was severely destabilized in a series of civil wars and political conflict, during which Julius Caesar was appointed as perpetual dictator and then assassinated in 44 BC. Civil wars and executions continued, culminating in the victory of Octavian, Caesar's adopted son, over Mark Antony and Cleopatra at the Battle of Actium in 31 BC and the annexation of Egypt. Octavian's power was now unassailable and in 27 BC the Roman Senate formally granted him overarching power and the new title Augustus, effectively marking the end of the Roman Republic.

David Suchet, CBE (/ˈsuːʃeɪ/ SOO-shay; born 2 May 1946) is an English actor, known for his work on British stage and television. He played Edward Teller in the TV serial Oppenheimer and received the RTS and BPG awards for his performance as Augustus Melmotte in the 2001 British serial The Way We Live Now. For his role as Agatha Christie's detective Hercule Poirot in Agatha Christie's Poirot, he received a 1991 British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) nomination.
Suchet was born in London, the son of Joan Patricia (née Jarché; 1916–1992), an actress, and Jack Suchet. Jack emigrated from South Africa to England in 1932, trained to be a doctor at St Mary's Hospital Medical School, London, in 1933, and became an obstetrician and gynaecologist.
Suchet's father was of Lithuanian Jewish descent, the son of Izidor Suchedowitz, originally from Kretinga in the Pale of Settlement of the Russian Empire. At some point, the family name was recorded as "Schohet", a Yiddish (from Hebrew shochet) word defining the profession of kosher butcher. Suchet's father changed his surname to Suchet while living in South Africa. David's mother was English-born and Anglican (she was of Russian Jewish descent on her own father's side, and English Anglican on her mother's side). He was raised without religion, but became a practising Anglican in 1986, and was confirmed in 2006.
CORRECTION at 0:13 - "There remains an unbroken line of popes from Saint Peter to Pope Francis." Saint Peter is the first Pope of the Catholic Church and there remains an unbroken line of Popes from Saint Peter to Pope Francis. Though Saint Peter's birth date remains uncertain, he is believed to have died in 64 AD. Saint Peter is the patron saint of fishermen, net makers, and ship builders. He was canonized by Christ as the "rock of the church" described in Matthew chapter 16, verse 18. His feast day is June 29, however several groups honor him on February 22nd and November 18th as well. Saint Peter was born Simon Peter of Cephas. He was a fisherman who met Jesus while in his boat. He and his brother Andrew had been experiencing trouble catching fish but when Jesus saw the boats, he to...
Actor David Suchet goes in search of one of the most puzzling characters in history - the man we know today as Saint Peter. Uncovering fragments of tradition and half-whispered traces of Peter's life, Suchet reveals the real person hidden within the New Testament stories in this amazing documentary. Beside the Sea of Galilee, he investigates Peter's early life as a fisherman and asks why it was that Peter chose to join forces with Jesus - a man so clearly on a collision course with Rome.
David Suchet continues to trace the life of the man we know today as Saint Peter. According to the New Testament, it is Peter who takes charge of the movement after the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus. But how could a man who had previously been painted as an impetuous and confused character fill the shoes of such a charismatic leader? And is there any evidence that Peter was eventually martyred in Rome as the first pope of the Roman Catholic church?

An in-depth interview with director Peter Bogdanovich (She's Funny That Way, Last Picture Show, Paper Moon, What's Up Doc?). http://www.theseventhart.org Peter Bogdanovich is a legendary filmmaker whose career began in a similar fashion to our own project: interviewing filmmakers in a thorough yet conversational manner. His relationships with Ford and Welles, among others, have yielded indispensable books investigating these auteurs' films. His own filmography is just as expansive and intricate, including richly woven odes to classical filmmaking and quite a few films that experienced crippling studio interventions, resulting in films that reward close readings, revisiting (specifically the Director's Cut versions) and discussion. Peter was in Toronto as part of Turner Classic Movies' ...

Last week, Reason.tv released an 18-minute video of investment guru, radio show host, and unflappable defender of capitalism Peter Schiff as he spent three hours among the Occupy Wall Street protesters in Manhattan's Zuccotti Park. ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UGL-Ex1CD1c ) Standing next to a sign reading "I Am The 1%, Let's Talk," Schiff debated, argued, and occasionally found common ground with the Occupiers. In response to the overwhelming demand for more Schiff at OWS, we're...

Studio international visited Raven Row in East London to talk to writer and curator Jo Melvin about the exhibition she has curated titled Five Issues of Studio International. The five issues of Studio International around which the exhibition is built were produced under the editorship of Peter Townsend between the mid-1960s and the mid-70s, a time when the role of sculpture directed a profound change in art. There was a revolutionary shift from post-constructivism and kineticism, through the abstract formalism at Saint Martin’s School of Art, to post-minimalism and, most recently, conceptualism. Melvin’s exhibition displays some of the works, as well as some documentation of works written about in the five issues. The exhibition is constructed in such a way as to conjure into Rav...

This Ghent-based band has a special interest in modern art, as well as the synergy of old and new. Therefore we’ve chosen the saint-peter’s abbey. This building from the 13th century recently added a new twist to their policy, by curating expos of contemporary artists. The exposition of book illustrator Carll Cneut is one of these, and forms the base of our session and interview. Songs: ‘Come Home’ and ‘Nothing is Clear’.

(CNN) - Christopher Lukasik was building shelves when a metal rod hit his eye, tearing about a third of his optic nerve fibers and leaving everybody from his doctors to his family wondering whether he would ever see again. Lukasik's mother began to pray to Pope John Paul II, who will be beatified Sunday. The ceremony at Vatican City is the penultimate step towards the late pontiff's sainthood. "All I could think about is to pray to Pope John Paul II. I just felt him with me and I knew he would be the one that would heal my son," said 67-year-old Joanna Lukasik of Chicago, who grew up near the late pontiff's hometown of Wadowice, Poland. "I was driving to the hospital and I was begging him and crying and begging him to save his vision and that's what happened." Doctors say he was lucky. ...
Deloitte and Touche came to us 1997 to make a video to tell the world their mission. They wanted to be in the top three, if not the number one, consulting firms in the world by 2002. This video is just excerpts from the original video. We came up with this creative because we liked the idea of people talking on the right side of the screen with text on the left. One reason we gave to the client for this creative was that people are vertical so it is a waste of space in 4:3 to have people filling the whole frame! This was a very large budget video, I think over $180K plus travel. This was at the height of the opulent 90's where money was of no object.
