Boer (English pronunciation: /ˈboʊ.ər/, /bɔːr/ or /bʊər/;Afrikaans: [buːr]) is the Dutch and Afrikaans word for "farmer." As used in South Africa, it was used to denote the descendants of the Dutch-speaking settlers of the eastern Cape frontier in Southern Africa during the 18th century. For a time the Dutch East India Company controlled this area, but it was taken over by the United Kingdom.
In addition the term was applied to those who left the Cape Colony during the 19th century to settle in the Orange Free State, Transvaal (which are together known as the Boer Republics), and to a lesser extent Natal. They left the Cape primarily to escape British rule and get away from the constant border wars between the British imperial government and the tribes on the eastern frontier.
The Dutch East India Company had been formed in the Dutch Republic in 1602, and the Dutch had entered keenly into the competition for the colonial and imperial trade of commerce in Southeast Asia. In 1648 one of their ships was stranded in Table Bay, and the shipwrecked crew had to forage for themselves on shore for several months. They were so impressed with the natural resources of the country that on their return to the Republic, they represented to the directors of the company the great advantages to the Dutch Eastern trade to be had from a properly provided and fortified station of call at the Cape. The result was that in 1652, a Dutch expedition led by surgeon Jan van Riebeek constructed a fort and laid out vegetable gardens at Table Bay.
Commedia dell'arte (Italian pronunciation: [komˈmɛːdja delˈlarte]) is a form of theatre characterized by masked "types" which began in Italy in the 16th century and was responsible for the advent of the actresses and improvised performances based on sketches or scenarios. The closest translation of the name is "comedy of craft"; it is shortened from commedia dell'arte all'improvviso, or "comedy of the craft of improvisation". Originally, it was called commedia all'improviso. This was to distinguish the form from commedia erudita or learned comedy that was written by academics and performed by amateurs. Commedia dell'arte, conversely, was performed by professional actors (comici) who perfected a specific role or mask. Italian theater historians, such as Roberto Tessari, Ferdinando Taviani, and Luciano Pinto, believe commedia was a response to the political and economic crisis of the 16th century and, as a consequence, became the first entirely professional form of theater. This is debated though, as evidence shows that there were possibly acting unions prominent as far back as the Greek Times.
A credit union is a member-owned financial cooperative, democratically controlled by its members, and operated for the purpose of promoting thrift, providing credit at competitive rates, and providing other financial services to its members. Many credit unions also provide services intended to support community development or sustainable international development on a local level.
Worldwide, credit union systems vary significantly in terms of total system assets and average institution asset size, ranging from volunteer operations with a handful of members to institutions with assets worth several billion US dollars and hundreds of thousands of members. Credit unions operate alongside other mutual and/or co-operative organisations engaging in cooperative banking, such as building societies.
Credit unions differ from banks and other financial institutions in that those who have accounts in the credit union are its members and owners, and they elect their board of directors in a one-person-one-vote system regardless of their amount invested. Credit unions see themselves as different from mainstream banks, with a mission to be "community-oriented" and "serve people, not profit".

Heroes of the Russian cosmos The Red Stuff is a film about the first real explorers of the cosmos, the "Eaglets", from the early years of Russian space travel. A period in which Russians had one success after another and were streets ahead of their arch rivals, the Americans. In 1957 the first Russian Sputnik - the first artificial satellite in history - had scared the hell out of the Americans. Later that year the first living creature was sent in to space, the dog Laika. And in 1961 Yuri Gargarin earned his place in history as the first man in space. Soon after, he was followed by Gherman Titov, the second, who circled the earth even before the Americans could target their John Glenn. In '62 these triumphs were followed by the first manned flight for two and in 1965 by the first walk ...

It's no secret that credit unions today are experiencing a myriad of issues that in many cases keep them from innovating operations and focusing on serving their members like they would want to. One of the biggest thorns in their side is the revolving door of regulations running rampant throughout the industry, curbing a good number of CUs' operations and member services. Credit unions are clamoring for relief -- and no place was that message heard louder than last week's NAFCU 2013 Congressional Caucus event in Washington, D.C., at the opulent and historic Mayflower Renaissance Hotel. During the three-day gathering, credit union attendees heard from NAFCU's President/CEO Dan Berger, CNN's Political Analyst Paul Begala, NCUA Board Members Michael Fryzel and Rick Metsger, Fannie Mae Presid...
