The Philippines (i/ˈfɪlᵻpiːnz/; Filipino: Pilipinas [ˌpɪlɪˈpinɐs]), officially known as the Republic of the Philippines (Filipino: Republika ng Pilipinas), is a sovereign island country in Southeast Asia situated in the western Pacific Ocean. It consists of about 7,500 islands that are categorized broadly under three main geographical divisions: Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. The capital city of the Philippines is Manila and the most populous city is Quezon City; both are part of Metro Manila.
To the north of the Philippines across the Luzon Strait lies Taiwan; Vietnam sits west across the South China Sea; southwest lies Malaysia in the island of Borneo across the Sulu Sea, and to the south the Celebes Sea separates it from other islands of Indonesia; while to the east it is bounded by the Philippine Sea and the island-nation of Palau. Its location on the Pacific Ring of Fire and close to the equator makes the Philippines prone to earthquakes and typhoons, but also endows it with abundant natural resources and some of the world's greatest biodiversity. At approximately 300,000 square kilometers (115,831 sq mi), the Philippines is the 72nd-largest country in the world.
This is a list of diplomatic missions of the United States of America.
Morocco, in December 1777, became the first nation to seek diplomatic relations with the United States and together they maintain the United States' longest unbroken treaty.
Benjamin Franklin established the first overseas mission of the United States in Paris in 1779. On April 19, 1782, John Adams was received by the States-General and the Dutch Republic became the third country, after Morocco and France, to recognize the United States as an independent government. Adams then became the first U.S. ambassador to the Netherlands and the house that he had purchased at Fluwelen Burgwal 18 in The Hague, became the first American embassy anywhere in the world.
In the period following the American Revolution, George Washington sent a number of close advisers to the courts of European potentates in order to garner recognition of U.S. independence with mixed results, including Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, Francis Dana, and John Jay. Much of the first fifty years of the Department of State concerned negotiating with imperial European powers over the territorial integrity of the borders of the United States as known today.

Filipino activists stage a protest near presidential palace gates and burn effigies of U.S. and Philippines presidents, denouncing a security pact that will allow more U.S. troops in the country. Hundreds of Filipino activists protested outside the Presidential Palace gates in Manila on Monday (April 28), denoucing the visit of U.S. President Barack Obama. The visit is the final leg of Obama's four-nation tour of U.S. allies in Asia, which aims to convince allies that the U.S. pivot of military and diplomatic assets to the Asia-Pacific region is real. Protesters chanted nationalists slogans and burned effigies of Aquino and Obama, showing their dissatisfaction on a recent defence pact that will allow for increased use of Philippine bases by U.S. ships, aircraft and troops. Not knowing very much about the Philippines before I visited, I was pleasantly surprised by Manila and Subic and how they both reminded me of America. The highlight of the trip was getting a chance to visit a Vietnamese boat people refugee camp near Baataan. I met some friendly Pinoys too. The food was great. The transportation readily available. And the landscape extremely beautiful. There are plenty to see and do as well. -------------------------------------------------- About Me: I'm Kyle Le and I live, travel, and eat in Vietnam and many Asian countries. The 2016 elections may be over and President Rodrigo Duterte in China for a state visit, but that didn't stop the Philippine leader from bringing up the election protest filed by former vice presidential candidate Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr against Vice President Leni Robredo. In fact, that was how he introduced Marcos to a gathering of China-based Filipinos in a Beijing hotel on Wednesday, October 19. Marcos was onstage with Duterte, along with his sister Ilocos Norte Governor Imee Marcos, and Cabinet officials. Duterte, citing his friendship with the Marcoses, initially postponed giving Robredo a Cabinet position. He later appointed her as housing czar.
