Allan Corduner (born 2 April 1950) is a British actor. He grew up in a secular Jewish home in North London, and trained at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. He has worked extensively on stage, TV, and film, both in the UK and in the USA. His voice is familiar from BBC radio plays, audio books and TV documentaries. He is perhaps best known for his portrayal of Sir Arthur Sullivan in Mike Leigh's award winning Topsy-Turvy.
Corduner was born in Stockholm, Sweden, and grew up in a secular Jewish home in North London with parents and younger brother. His mother had escaped to Britain from Nazi Germany with her family in 1938. His father was born in Helsinki, Finland of a Finnish mother and a Ukrainian father of Sephardic Jewish ancestry, although his father's family later moved to Stockholm, Sweden. Corduner's parents, too, first settled in Stockholm, but the family moved to London when Corduner was one year old. Interest in arts and music was always encouraged at home, and Corduner's early ambition was to become either an orchestra conductor or a concert pianist. He attended University College School in Hampstead, London NW3. Although Corduner developed into a very skilled jazz and classical pianist, musical aspirations had taken second place by the time he went to study at Bristol University and the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School.

The Book Thief is a novel by Australian author Markus Zusak. First published in 2005, the book won several awards and was listed on The New York Times Best Seller list for over 230 weeks.
The Book Thief centers around the life of Liesel Meminger, a nine-year-old girl living in Germany during World War II. Liesel's experiences are narrated by Death, who describes both the beauty and destruction of life in this era.
After her brother's death, Liesel arrives in a distraught state at the home of her new foster parents, Hans and Rosa Hubermann. During her time there, she is exposed to the horror of the Nazi regime and struggles to find a way to preserve the innocence of her childhood in the midst of her destructive surroundings. As the political situation in Germany deteriorates, her foster parents hide a Jewish man named Max, putting the family in danger. Hans, who has developed a close relationship with Liesel, teaches her to read in secret. Recognizing the power of writing and sharing the written word, Liesel begins to not only steal books the Nazi party is looking to destroy, but also write her own stories and share the power of language with Max. As Liesel copes with the trauma of her past and the violent horrors of the war-torn world around her, she embarks on a journey of self-discovery, the formation of a new family, and mostly, her life as a book thief.

She's worked with the revered crime writer for years and his detective, Atticus Pund, is renowned for solving crimes in the sleepy English villages of the 1950s. As Susan knows only too well, vintage crime sells handsomely. It's just a shame that it means dealing with an author like Alan Conway... But Conway's latest tale of murder at Pye Hall is not quite what it seems. Yes, there are dead bodies and a host of intriguing suspects, but hidden in the pages of the manuscript there lies another story: a tal...

The account documents her ocean voyage to Rangoon, and her stay in a small, jungle-embedded, European community in Remyo. The author, who travelled to Asia alone to visit her brother, is quick to laugh at her own exaggerated fears. She gives us a glimpse into the less-than-glamorous lives to Myanmar’s British occupiers. The book was published in 1899, just thirteen years after the conclusion of the third Anglo-Burmese war, when Britain took formal control of Myanmar and made it a provin...

This recording of the last half hour begins with the Ghost of Christmas Future. The camera is shaky, but not bad for hand-held from the back of the audience, and the sound is OK. As for the readings, they're brilliant! Give it a couple of minutes and you'll forget the technical flaws. Homage to Catalonia is George Orwell's personal account of his experiences and observations in the Spanish Civil War. The first edition was published in the United Kingdom in 1938. The book was not published in the United States until February 1952, when it appeared with an influential preface by Lionel Trilling. The only translation published in Orwell's lifetime was into Italian, in December 1948. A French translation by Yvonne Davet—with whom Orwell corresponded, commenting on her translation and providing explanatory notes—in 1938–39, was not published until five years after Orwell's death
