Mississippi i/ˌmɪsᵻˈsɪpi/ is a state located in the southern region of the United States.
Jackson is the state capital and largest city, with a population of around 175,000 people. The state overall has a population of around 3 million people. Mississippi is the 32nd most extensive and the 32nd most populous of the 50 United States.
The state is heavily forested outside of the Mississippi Delta area. Its riverfront areas were cleared for slave-cultivated cotton production before the American Civil War, but after the war, the bottomlands were cleared mostly by freedmen. African Americans made up two-thirds of the property owners in the Delta by the end of the 19th century, but timber and railroad companies acquired much of the land. Clearing altered the ecology of the Delta, increasing the severity of flooding along the Mississippi. Much land is now held by agribusinesses. A largely rural state with agricultural areas dominated by industrial farms, Mississippi is ranked low or last among the states in such measures as health, educational attainment, and median household income. The state's catfish aquaculture farms produce the majority of farm-raised catfish consumed in the United States.

Plot: "Red Barry" was the 40th sound-era serial produced by Universal Pictures (followed "Flaming Frontiers" and preceded "Scouts To the Rescue"), and was based in the Will Gould comic strip distributed to newspapers by King Features Syndicated, Inc. It was the third of five serials from Universal starring Buster Crabbe, and while the plot only revolves around two million dollars in bonds and soon evolves into a game of "Bonds, Bonds, Who Has the Bonds?", it has so many groups, and their armies of henchmen, acquiring and re-acquiring the bonds that, in a chapter or two, the people who have the bonds don't appear to know they are the current holders. Wing Fu, brings the bonds to the USA to buy war planes for an unnamed county, and quickly loses them to Quong Lee, a Eurasian underworld chief, but they are re-taken in chapter two by Red Barry. Ballet dancer Natacha, representing a ruthless group of Russians, acquires them in chapter three, but Barry gets them back in chapter four. Hong Kong Cholly, an agent for Wing Fu, goes after Barry to get the bonds, but isn't successful, and is killed in chapter nine. Valentine Vane, aka Harry Dicer, a criminal investigator, takes the bonds from Barry in chapter six, but Quong Lee re-acquires them again in chapter seven. Lyceum Theatre (where Natacha dances) manager C. E. Mannix pops up with them in chapter eight, and the question of the day is how did he get them from Quong Lee? The answer is , though portrayed by two different people, William Ruhl and Frank Lackteen, Mannix and Quong Lee, for the "storyline" are one and the same as the Oriental makeup is only a disguise. The next question is why would anyone want to look like Frank Lackteen ? Two Russians, Petrov and Igor grab the bonds in chapter nine, but Barry just as quickly grabs them back. But (keep up the best you can) Wing Fu has them in chapter ten, Mannix gets them again in chapter eleven, hides them in Natacha's trunk in chapter twelve, only to have Vane steal them, and Mannix promptly shoots Vane in chapter thirteen and gets them again. But, since chapter thirteen is the concluding chapter, his ownership doesn't last long.

John Law's Mississippi Bubble took place in France at pretty much the same time as John Blunt's South Sea Bubble took Great Britain by storm. After the long reign of Louis XIV, France was deeply indebted and desperate. Economist John Law however came up with a scheme and created the Mississippi Company. The Mississippi Company was supposed to benefit from France's alleged riches in the Louisiana region but just like with the South Sea Company, the stories of prosperity surrounding the Mississippi Company were greatly exaggerated. Furthermore, John Law took things one step further than John Blunt and even involved the newly created central bank of France in what ended up becoming the Mississippi scam. As we'll be finding out today, things got complicated quickly. Please like, comment and...
The Mississippi Bubble by Charles Mackay - Non fiction - ECONOMICS AUDIOBOOK The Mississippi Company of 1684 became the Company of the West in 1717, and expanded as the Company of the Indies from 1719. This corporation, which held a business monopoly in French colonies in North America and the West Indies, became one of the earliest examples of an economic bubble. In May 1716, the Banque Générale Privée ("General Private Bank"), which developed the use of paper money, was set up by convicted murderer and millionaire gambler John Law. It was a private bank, but three quarters of the capital consisted of government bills and government-accepted notes. In August 1717, he bought the Mississippi Company to help the French colony in Louisiana. In the same year Law conceived a joint stock tra...

TONIC (VICE's new health channel) travels to Jackson, Mississippi, one of the hardest hit Southern cities, to investigate why black gay men are getting diagnosed and falling to a disease that can be managed. We’ll discuss issues tied to systematic racial discrimination, such as low income and poverty, lack of access to adequate health care, limited HIV testing and education and stigma attached to the virus. We’ll meet heroic social workers and researchers struggling to bring HIV+ the care they need, as well as HIV+ men who are speaking out about their disease in hopes of changing the stigmas attached to it. HIV diagnoses in the United States have generally plummeted since the 1980’s, and treatment strategies are now so effective that some are beginning to talk about the end of the AIDS ep...

Travel video about nature park Mississippi Swamps in the USA. New Orleans is synonymous with good food, jazz and Mardi Gras and it was here that history was created: founded by France, conquered by Spain, bought by President Jefferson and occupied by theYankees! New Orleans also possesses the second largest harbour in the USA and even today they shout, „Full speed ahead!“ as paddle steamers negotiate ‘Ol Man River’, the grand waters of the Mississippi that flow to the Mississippi Swamps. The Swamps are extensive and only experienced boatmen can find their way around the mass of main and side tributaries as it’s easy to become disorientated, sight of the sky often being lost due to the density of the trees. In the past 5,000 years the Mississippi had seven different deltas prior to it being ...

Louisiana may be the birthplace of Jazz, but Mississippi Delta, is where the Blues were born! Music, comfort food and southern hospitality run deep in the Delta. My journey followed Highway 61, which is also known as the “Blues Trail.” One could argue that Highway 61 rivals Route 66, certainly for its musical significance. I found the Mississippi Delta to exude charm and hospitality, while its music permeated my soul and found a place in my heart. Will Carr shares latest details on incident that took a sheriff's deputy's life
Total of 8 people killed, suspect in custody
LINCOLN COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI — A sheriff’s deputy was among eight people killed when a man went on a shooting rampage over the weekend at three separate locations in Lincoln County, Mississippi. The killings began on Saturday night when police were called to a domestic dispute involving suspect Willie Corey Godbolt, 35, and his wife. Godbolt appeared to be leaving after Sheriff’s Deputy William Durr arrived at the scene of the dispute, but the suspect then took a gun out from his back pocket and started shooting. Godbolt’s wife, her mother and sister, and the deputy were killed. Speaking about the deputy, Godbolt told the Clarion-Ledger: “My pain wasn't designed for him. He was just there. “We was talking about me trying to take the children home … somebody called the officer … th...

At Ole Miss, Engram was consistently put in a position to succeed as a focal point in their scheme. In this video, I show how he used his speed and vertical receiving ability to be a dynamic threat in college and I explain how I think that will translate to the NFL. In my opinion, the New York Giants should use him like the Washington Redskins use Jordan Reed. They can use him on option routes to create mismatch opportunities versus linebackers while also ...
We were curious as to where the most rednecks in Mississippi lived. So we crunched the numbers to find out.
(NUMBER 1 1976) Well you can hear the country song from far, And someone plays the honky tonky tonk, Where all the lights go on one by one, People enjoying the sun, And the wind takes it all away, Where the Mississippi rolls down to the see, And lovers found the place they like to be, How many times before this song was ending, Love and understanding everywhere around. Two years ago no one outside of Bruce, Mississippi knew Leo "Bud" Welch. Today, he's recognized as one of the last remaining Mississippi Delta bluesman. Born in 1932, Leo "Bud" Welch began playing guitar at the age of 13. He played for family, friends, and churches while making a living in the logging industry and on the farm for more than 35 years. This year, at the age of 83, Leo released his first ever blues C.D entitled "I Don't Prefer No Blues." The album tittle is a quote when Leo talked to the preacher at his church and told him he was recording a blues C.D. Leo is proof to never give up on your dreams. He also wants to pass the legacy of music along to a new generation. Credits: Director, Cinematographer, and Editor: Brent Foster Audio, Color, and Additional Cinematography: N...

An epic convergence of Open Source Ecology engineers and Our School at Blair Grocery farmers from New Orleans came together in summer 2013 to produce a DIY tractor in five days. The action was captured by the filmmakers of the documentary Reversing the Mississippi. The film will soon be released so stay tuned for the fascinating story behind the build which will reveal insights into what it takes to be a leader in these empowering grassroots movements of the new millennium.
Ian's journey through America was a main part of Reversing the Mississippi at one point in the editing process. This is an early edit of one scene narrated by Ian about his experience on the road in 2011.
This is a deleted sequence from Reversing the Mississippi. The scenes in this sequence all occurred in 2011 during Ian's initial round of filming with Turner and Marcin. They were deleted from the film due to time constraints for TV broadcast.
An engrossing exhibition at the Met of Robert Frank's photographs in his landmark 1958 book, "The Americans," has just closed, and a recent review of a new biography of Nina Simone reminded us of "the stunning song, 'Mississippi Goddam,' written by Simone in the wake of the 1963 Birmingham church bombings and the killing of the civil rights advocate Medgar Evans." Making this clip gave me the chance to think about Robert Frank and Nina Simone again, important people for me in those heady days of '68, when everything seemed possible.

Mississippi Blues - The Best Of Mississippi Blues
Every step of the way, we walk the line
Your days are numbered, so are mine
Time is piling up, we struggle and we stray
We're all boxed in, nowhere to escape
City's just a jungle, more games to play
Trapped in the heart of it, tryin' to get away
I was raised in the country, I been working in the town
I been in trouble ever since I set my suitcase down
Got nothing for you, I had nothing before
Don't even have anything for myself anymore
Sky full of fire, came pouring down
Nothing you can sell me, I'll see you around
All my powers of expression and thoughts so sublime
Could never do you justice in reason or rhyme
Only one thing I did wrong
Stayed in Mississippi a day too long
Well, the devil's in the alley, mule's in the stall
Say anything you wanna, I have heard it all
I was thinking about the things that Rosie said
I was dreaming I was sleeping in Rosie's bed
Walking through the leaves, falling from the trees
Feeling like a stranger nobody sees
So many things that we never will undo
I know you're sorry, I'm sorry too
Some people will offer you their hand and some won't
Last night I knew you, tonight I don't
I need something strong to distract my mind
I'm gonna look at you 'til my eyes go blind
Well I got here following the southern star
I crossed that river just to be where you are
Only one thing I did wrong
Stayed in Mississippi a day too long
Well my ship's been split to splinters and it's sinking fast
I'm drowning in the poison, got no future, got no past
But my heart is not weary, it's light and it's free
I've got nothing but affection for all those who sailed with me
Everybody's moving, if they ain't already there
Everybody's got to move somewhere
Stick with me baby, stick with me anyhow
Things should start to get interesting right about now
My clothes are wet, tight on my skin
Not as tight as the corner that I painted myself in
I know that fortune is waiting to be kind
So give me your hand and say you'll be mine
Well, the emptiness is endless, cold as the clay
You can always come back, but you can't come back all the way
Only one thing I did wrong
