In 1968 the town of Auroville was founded for anyone, from anywhere in the world, to come and live. It promoted a sustainable and non material lifestyle, where property ownership wasn't allowed.
The Auroville township in South India is now home to 2000 people from all over the world. "I am on the verge of a new perception of life, as if certain parts of the consciousness were mutating from the caterpillar state to the butterfly state..." says Alfassa. The purpose was to realise human unity and it is today recognised as the first and only internationally endorsed experiment that is still ongoing in this field.

A little-known city in Southern India founded by The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization that does not have religion, physical money or politics is proving that these things that most of take for granted as a part of everyday life are not a necessity. In Aurora, instead of money, every resident is expected to contribute to the overall budget of the city through financial donations or work carried out in the community
The lack of tangible physical currency is due to an account system that every resident of the city uses similar to the use of a debit card. Each resident is also given a basic stipend enough to ensure that their basic needs are met, and guests pay a daily fee to stay in the city.
Designed to house 50,000 people originally, the actual population od the city has been around just 200 until relatively

Auroville India is a spiritual place which is located in Pondicherry India. We walked around this city of the future and were amazing at how such a place even existed. There is no money in Auroville and everything is done on the batter system.

Auroville
Auroville (City of Dawn) is an experimental township in Viluppuram district in the state of Tamil Nadu, India, near Puducherry in South India. It was founded in 1968 by Mirra Alfassa (known as "The Mother") and designed by architect Roger Anger. As stated in Alfassa's first public message about the township, "Auroville is meant to be a universal town where men and women of all countries are able to live in peace and progressive harmony, above all creeds, all politics and all nationalities. The purpose of Auroville is to realize human unity."
History
Auroville was founded as a project of the Sri Aurobindo Society on Wednesday 28 February 1968 by Mirra Alfassa, "The Mother". She was spiritual collaborator of Sri Aurobindo, who believed that "man is a transitional being". Mother expected that this experimental "universal township" would contribute significantly in the "progress of humanity towards its splendid future by bringing together people of goodwill and aspiration for a better world." Mother also believed that such a universal township will contribute decisively to the Indian renaissance (Ref. Mother's Agenda, Vol. 9, dt.3.02.68).

The Auroville township in South India is now home to 2000 people from all over the world. "I am on the verge of a new perception of life, as if certain parts of the consciousness were mutating from the caterpillar state to the butterfly state..." says Alfassa. The purpose was to realise human unity and it is today recognised as the first and only internationally endorsed experiment that is still ongoing in this field.

Here you can get a taste of colonial France. The buildings and people in the French Colony are very colorful.Talk with the local people here and people coming from other countries.

Pondicherry was the residence of Sri Aurobindo (Indian freedom fighter), founded in 1926. This ashram is one of the prime destinations for tourists and spiritual seekers.
Pondicherry is full of tourists and its crowdy but here in this ashram you can feel the silence and peace . Do sit there for a while and meditate.
Opening timings: From 8 am to 12 noon and from 2 pm to 6 pm
Ganesha Temple
Beside Aurobindo Ashram you can find the Ganesha Temple which is beautifully Crafted. Best time would be the morning to visit this temple. My favorite thing about this temple is the Elephant who give the Blessings with his Trunk.
Matrmimandir || Auroville
This was the first time I visited this place and believe me this is must visit place.
Auroville is an experimental township, founded in 1968 by Mirra Alfassa and designed by architect Roger Anger.As stated in Alfassa's first public message in 1965, she states, that Auroville is meant to be a universal town where men and women of all countries are able to live in peace and progressive harmony, above all creeds, all politics and all nationalities. The purpose of Auroville is to realize human unity.
This time I was not able to go inside the Matrimandir as i did not booked the seat.If I get chance next time will definitely visit inside the matrimandir.

The place is serene and full of bursting ideas.Already in 1954 the Mother had spelled out an alternative formula for a new way to live and to be. She described a new society: balanced, just, harmonious and dynamic. At the time she saw that "the earth is not ready to realise such an ideal" and therefore called it ‘A Dream’. The fact that Auroville steadily grows, and its residents continue to carry this same ideal and vision in their hearts and minds, gives hope. The challenges are enormous and daring. When this dream touches you, don’t hesitate to join us.
A Dream
There should be somewhere on earth a place which no nation could claim as its own, where all human beings of goodwill who have a sincere aspiration could live freely as citizens of the world and obey one single authority, that of the supreme Truth; a place of peace, concord and harmony where all the fighting instincts of man would be used exclusively to conquer the causes of his sufferings and miseries, to surmount his weaknesses and ignorance, to triumph over his limitations and incapacities; a place where the needs of the spirit and the concern for progress would take precedence over the satisfaction of desires and passions, the search for pleasure and material enjoyment.
In this place, children would be able to grow and develop integrally without losing contact with their souls; education would be given not for passing examinations or obtaining certificates and posts but to enrich existing faculties and bring forth new ones. In this place, titles and positions would be replaced by opportunities to serve and organise; the bodily needs of each one would be equally provided for, and intellectual, moral and spiritual superiority would be expressed in the general organisation not by an increase in the pleasures and powers of life but by increased duties and responsibilities.
