Etobicoke i/ɛˈtoʊbᵻkoʊ/ (with a silent 'ke') is a former municipality within the western part of the city of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Long populated by First Nations, it began to be settled by Anglo-Europeans in the 1790s; the municipality grew into city status in the 20th century. Several independent villages and towns developed within the area of Etobicoke, including Mimico, only to be absorbed later into Etobicoke during the era of Metro Toronto. Etobicoke was dissolved in 1998, when it was amalgamated with other Metro Toronto municipalities into the city of Toronto. Etobicoke is bordered on the south by Lake Ontario, on the east by the Humber River, on the west by Etobicoke Creek, the city of Mississauga, and Toronto Pearson International Airport (a small portion of the airport extends into Etobicoke), and on the north by Steeles Avenue West.
Today, Etobicoke's population (347,948 in 2011) is very diverse, with people from all over the world including South Asians, East Asians, Middle Easterners, West Indians, Africans and Europeans. Etobicoke is still primarily suburban in development, with a lower population density than central Toronto, larger main streets, shopping malls, and cul-de-sac housing developments. Etobicoke has several expressways within its borders, including the Queen Elizabeth Way, Gardiner Expressway, Ontario Highway 427, Ontario Highway 401 and Ontario Highway 409. Etobicoke is connected to the rest of Toronto by 4 stations of the Bloor-Danforth subway, which has its western terminus at Kipling Avenue, and by 4 GO stations. Etobicoke has one post-secondary institution: Humber College, which has two campuses.
The Queensway is a major street in the municipalities of Toronto and Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. It is the western extension of Queen Street West, after it crosses King Street and Roncesvalles Avenue in Toronto. The Queensway is a divided roadway from just east of Parkside Drive westerly to just beyond South Kingsway, with ramps and centre median dedicated to the streetcar service. The road continues undivided west from the Humber River west to Highway 427 as a four or six-lane thoroughfare.
The Toronto section of the road ends at the Etobicoke Creek, but continues as Queensway (Peel Regional Road 20) in Mississauga, ending at Glengarry Road just west of Mavis Road. There is a road allowance with hydro lines, cutting into the Mississauga Golf and Country Club on the shores of the Credit River. In the 1990s, the name Queensway was eliminated on the roads on this allowance west of the river. The street gives its name to Etobicoke's The Queensway neighbourhood
Motorists may notice variation in name of the road as seen on overhead signs marking the exit to The Queensway from Highway 427 southbound. Older signs refer to it as "Queensway Avenue" while newer signs refer to it as "The Queensway". It is unclear as to why the older signs use an incorrect name (although - it may in fact be the newer ones who have the name incorrect). However, it may be informative to note that the extension of "The Queensway" in Mississauga to the west is referred to as "Queensway" (Queensway East east of Hurontario and Queensway West west of Hurontario). "Queensway Avenue" may have also been used to presumably to avoid confusion with adjacent exit signs for the QEW. After provincial downloading in 1998, there was no longer any need for 'Queensway Avenue' once the eastern QEW was redesignated as the Gardiner Expressway.

The city said stairs in Etobicoke's Tom Riley park would cost $65,000-$150,000. So retiree Adi Astl built his own for $550. Toronto city inspectors say Astl's stairs are not safe. The stairs are an essay written in wood about some serious problems with how the city deals with service to the community (cost, time, otherwise).
Danish firm Henning Larsen Architects has won a competition to design a group of buildings in Toronto, with a proposal that channels wind to create a comfortable microclimate in a central plaza. The Etobicoke Civic Centre will feature a cluster of buildings of different sizes, arranged to shelter a public square from cold prevailing winds. The development was planned to increase pedestrian activity in the area, after research conducted by Henning Larsen found that temperatures in Toronto were perceived as too cold for 60% of the year. The architects claim that site analysis and local thermal studies have allowed them to prolong the period during which pedestrians can comfortably occupy the square by up to five weeks each year. The buildings arranged around the central plaza are all of ...

I created this video with the YouTube Video Editor (http://www.youtube.com/editor)
This is probably the most spontaneous decision my friend Jack and I ever made. We had nowhere to stay in New York and we booked a night bus to Toronto with one hour to spare. This visual story is how the next 3 unplanned days turned into one of the best trips of my life. This is a re upload from my previous channel, the reason is because I've had some pretty bad issues with premiere pro so I couldn't get the other video I finished out on time. I wanted to put this out so it buys me a bit more time before I put out my next film. Please do like the video, it really helps me out and subscribe. This video was sponsored by my wallet. Peace, Ilan
