7 Sure Signs That Your Himalayan Salt Lamp Is A Fake
1. Your Himalayan Pink Salt Lamp Is Very Bright
Himalayan salt crystals typically range in color from medium pink to dark orange. Also, because the salt is full of various different minerals, light emanating from the lamp will be muted and uneven. For these reasons, the average salt lamp emits only a soft warm glow. If your lamp is small but gives off enough light to fully illuminate the room that it is placed in, this is a fairly good sign that your Himalayan salt lamp is a fake.
2. Your Lamp Has A White Crystal, But It Wasn’t Too Expensive

Khewra is located on the western edge of the Himalayan mountains and it is the only place where true Himalayan pink salt is found. So if you aren’t sure about the authenticity of your lamp, you can always inquire about the salt crystal’s country of origin to determine if your lamp is a fake or the real deal.
(Just remember that some manufacturers may list country of origin as where the lamp was assembled, so be sure to specify.

Sometimes you will know that you need to replace your lamp just because you get no picture of the lamp light will blink at you. Other times it may just be that the screen gets really dim or the TV takes a really long time to warm up. These are good signs that your lamp is burning out. Depending on the lamp they can go for a long time, sometimes anything up to 10,000 hours but by that point they are going to start to look pretty dim all the time.

Himalayan salt
Himalayan salt is rock salt or halite from a mine in the Punjab region of Pakistan, which rises from the Indo-Gangetic Plain. It is mined in the Khewra Salt Mine, located in Khewra, Jhelum District, Punjab region, Pakistan. The foothills of the Salt Range are located 300 km from the Himalayas, 298 km from Amritsar, India and 260 km from Lahore. The salt sometimes occurs in a reddish or pink color, with some crystals having an off-white to transparent color.
Mineral composition
Himalayan salt is predominantly sodium chloride (95-98%), contaminated with 2–3% polyhalite and small amounts of ten other minerals. The pink color is due to the presence of iron oxide.
Uses
It is commonly used in cooking, in place of other table salt, in brine, and for bath products such as bath salts. Blocks of salt are also used as serving dishes and in the preparation of food. Fish and some meats can be preserved for use in certain dishes, and blocks of salt can be slowly heated to a temperature of around 200 °C (400 °F) and used as a cooking surface thereafter.

This is blog about Edge-lit LED signs are an attractive and innovative way of advertising your businesses and products. They are energy efficient and are easy to assemble from acrylic panels and LED tape or strips. The key to a good sign is how you laser the image or lettering on the acrylic sheet and how you mount the acrylic panel so that the edges are brightly lit with the LED's . Colored LED's or multicolored LED strips and tapes enable you to choose the color of the light in the sign. The engraved parts will light up while the rest of the sign stays dark, producing the illusion of floating letters or images. The A5 sheet of acrylic (plexiglass) I purchased from ebay. It's 2cms thick so I found a Lego box lid for the base. I used this because its hollow underneath and simple to cut using a knife. I chopped a strip out of the centre so it was thick enough to hold the acrylic. I also mad ridges at either side so the acrylic would slot in. Sandblast would work, as would a chemical enchant such as a mild solvent. Acid however would likely not do much to plastic... that's why acid ships in plastic containers. A laser engraver or CNC machine would also work well. (I've used both) One thing I would look for, some of these LED strips produce heat and have adhesive backing... they should be adhered to a strip of metal to dissipate the heat. I've built things like this with LED strips... and the LEDs will fail as they do not get proper cooling. It only takes about 1mm of metal to dissipate the heat... a thin strip of circuit board will even work... but solid metal is better -

7 Sure Signs That Your Himalayan Salt Lamp Is A Fake
1. Your Himalayan Pink Salt Lamp Is Very Bright
Himalayan salt crystals typically range in color from medium pink to dark orange. Also, because the salt is full of various different minerals, light emanating from the lamp will be muted and uneven. For these reasons, the average salt lamp emits only a soft warm glow. If your lamp is small but gives off enough light to fully illuminate the room that it is placed in, this is a fairly good sign that your Himalayan salt lamp is a fake.
2. Your Lamp Has A White Crystal, But It Wasn’t Too Expensive
As previously stated, Himalayan salt crystals usually display a warm pinkish or orange hue. While white Himalayan salt does exist, it is rare and highly sought after. Thus genuine white Himalayan salt lamps will be much more expensive than the common colored varieties.
If you find a lamp which sports a white salt crystal, but the price isn’t significantly higher than other Himalayan pink salt lamps, this another sure sign that the product isn’t genuine Himalayan pink salt.

Sometimes you will know that you need to replace your lamp just because you get no picture of the lamp light will blink at you. Other times it may just be that the screen gets really dim or the TV takes a really long time to warm up. These are good signs that your lamp is burning out. Depending on the lamp they can go for a long time, sometimes anything up to 10,000 hours but by that point they are going to start to look pretty dim all the time.
If you notice that your lamp is getting dim you may want to buy a replacement ahead of time from ShopJimmy and keep it on hand because it is a good sign that your lamp may be failing shortly.

This is blog about Edge-lit LED signs are an attractive and innovative way of advertising your businesses and products. They are energy efficient and are easy to assemble from acrylic panels and LED tape or strips. The key to a good sign is how you laser the image or lettering on the acrylic sheet and how you mount the acrylic panel so that the edges are brightly lit with the LED's . Colored LED's or multicolored LED strips and tapes enable you to choose the color of the light in the sign. The engraved parts will light up while the rest of the sign stays dark, producing the illusion of floating letters or images. The A5 sheet of acrylic (plexiglass) I purchased from ebay. It's 2cms thick so I found a Lego box lid for the base. I used this because its hollow underneath and simple to cut using a knife. I chopped a strip out of the centre so it was thick enough to hold the acrylic. I also mad ridges at either side so the acrylic would slot in. Sandblast would work, as would a chemical enchant such as a mild solvent. Acid however would likely not do much to plastic... that's why acid ships in plastic containers. A laser engraver or CNC machine would also work well. (I've used both)
One thing I would look for, some of these LED strips produce heat and have adhesive backing... they should be adhered to a strip of metal to dissipate the heat. I've built things like this with LED strips... and the LEDs will fail as they do not get proper cooling. It only takes about 1mm of metal to dissipate the heat... a thin strip of circuit board will even work... but solid metal is better

New, and VERY interesting Poundland 5W LED lamps.
Note that in real use the 5W lamps are showing signs of heat related failure. So it may be better sticking to the more sensibly rated 3W units. Poundland is currently engaging in rapid evolution of its range of LED lamps with a really surprising range of 3W, 5W and 6W LED lamps. I started looking at them with a view to covering them all in one video, but had to restart with just the most recent when they turned out to be somewhat more interesting than I had expected. The most notable features are the use of multi-chip LEDs to fit a lot of LED chips in series in a smaller number of packages, plus the use of X2 suppression capacitors in the capacitive dropper circuit.

On the basis that people have died while using microwave oven transformers to burn patterns into wood, I thought it would be a good idea to show an alternative power source for making these images without the HUGE risks associated with microwave oven transformers. The concept behind making these images is that the surface of wood is moistened with salty water that forms a conductive layer. A high voltage is then applied across the wood and as the current flows it first heats the moist surface causing the water to evaporate and then a conductive carbonised track will follow the retreating moisture, burning a very random and fractal-like lightning pattern across the wood. Non-standard psychedelic build of Chinese LED lamp kit.
You can get a selection of different LED lamp kits on eBay, and while they pretty much cost the same as a complete built lamp, the kit form does allow you to modify them to make customised lamps. In this video I build a very psychedelic lamp that alternates between blue and red LEDs at mains frequency to give a trippy red/blue trail effect. I also used this video to test two pairs of cheap electronic lead cutters from eBay. One of which unexpectedly turned out to be a clone of an American brand! Note that in real use the 5W lamps are showing signs of heat related failure. So it may be better sticking to the more sensibly rated 3W units.
Poundland is currently engaging in rapid evolution of its range of LED lamps with a really surprising range of 3W, 5W and 6W LED lamps. I started looking at them with a view to covering them all in one video, but had to restart with just the most recent when they turned out to be somewhat more interesting than I had expected.
The most notable features are the use of multi-chip LEDs to fit a lot of LED chips in series in a smaller number of packages, plus the use of X2 suppression capacitors in the capacitive dropper circuit.

One of my favorite experiments to do at home is a DIY lava lamp experiment. You need oil, water, food coloring plus a fizz tablet and you can enjoy such an epic and mesmerizing bubble show! This is a great experiment for kids, children but also adults! A great experiment for a school project as well – all your classmates will be impressed.
An epic edible experiment plus a DIY prank is edible glass aka DIY lollipop. Prank your friends making them believe that you can eat glass ;) This lollipop looks exactly like glass but tastes amazing.
Amazing volcanic eruptions are definitely a hit with kids. To make these cool sensory experiments you need baking soda, food coloring and vinegar. Another one of my favorite experiments to do at home and amazing experiment for kids.
We must also make some water experiments! In this DIY science experiments video I made two. First one is skittles water experiment. Watch how the skittles will color the water making a beautiful colored display.
Second experiment with water is instant ice! With this amazing water experiment I show you how to freeze ice in seconds. Put a bottle of distilled water in the freezer for about 2 hours and 20 minutes. Now you can grow real ice mountains in front of your eyes.
One of my favorite edible experiments are rainbow spaghetti. This experiment is easy to make, you only need food coloring in rainbow shades. Yummy!
Some liquids don't mix but they rather float on top of each other due to density. I show a cool DIY density experiment. Children will love making this density tower – definitely an experiment to try at home! When your density tower is built, throw in a fizz tablet and enjoy the show!
Time for a cool glow in the dark experiment which doubles up as a delicious treat. Tonic water contains quinine, which glows under the UV light. I decided to make popsicles using tonic water and I also added some gummy bears to make them even more delicious. Another DIY glow in the dark experiment is slime or oobleck using only two ingredients. Mix cornstarch with water and enjoy this satisfying magical slime which transforms from solid to liquid.
Did you know that you can make your very own rainbow sand at home using rice, vinegar and food coloring! Yup, this is such an easy and cool experiment for kids and adults :) You can use your rainbow sand to play or as a room decor. Put it in a vase and decorate your room with it!
Let's make some lemon volcanoes! This is an epic science experiment to do at home using household items. Children will be impressed for sure. Things you will need are a lemon, baking soda and optionally food coloring plus dish soap. What an affordable and easy science experiment!
In the video I also show you a melting experiment which shows that some materials and objects change from solid to liquid or even gas when heated. We're making edible chocolate bowls using balloons. They are perfect for parties since you can decorate them to fit any theme – valentines, Halloween, Easter...

How to Remove Anything from a Photo in Photoshop
We have all taken photos that were close to perfect except for some object in the background. If given the chance it is always better to remove that object in person, it will take much less time than doing it in Photoshop and will look more natural. Sometimes however that is not an option; either you didn't see it or were not able to move it.
That is where Photoshop comes in! In this episode we show you how to remove objects from your photos to make your subject stand out more.
Selections Are the Key to Removing Objects
Often times the objects you want to remove are behind other objects. In this episode we remove a trashcan and a street sign, both of which are behind a lamp post and a stone seat. In order to remove the objects from the background we have to make a selection that keeps the lamp post and stone seat from being affected.
To make this selection we use the Pen Tool. It is one of the more complicated tools to use in Photoshop but it is well worth learning because of how powerful it is.

After your selection is made it is time to use any tools available to build the background. If you are lucky there will be plenty of area to sample from that looks like the area you need to cover.
Start out using the Clone Stamp Tool, it will duplicate a sampled area and can do most of the job for you providing you have an area to sample.
Sometimes you will have to remove and object and that means creating something "behind" that object from scratch. This is where the brush tool comes in.
When All Else Fails, Use the Brush Tool
The brush tool is incredibly powerful and shouldn't be overlooked when creating a new background. it may not have as much detail as the Clone Stamp Tool but you are not limited to sampling areas.
With the brush tool you can "paint" anything you can think of, including the background over top of an object you want to remove. This may sound really hard but using color samples from the surrounding image and a little creativity you would be amazed at what you can do.
In this example we completely remove a trash can from the image and paint the building and the sidewalk in behind it.

On the basis that people have died while using microwave oven transformers to burn patterns into wood, I thought it would be a good idea to show an alternative power source for making these images without the HUGE risks associated with microwave oven transformers.
The concept behind making these images is that the surface of wood is moistened with salty water that forms a conductive layer. A high voltage is then applied across the wood and as the current flows it first heats the moist surface causing the water to evaporate and then a conductive carbonised track will follow the retreating moisture, burning a very random and fractal-like lightning pattern across the wood.
One of the easiest high voltage transformers to find is the one used in microwave ovens, but what many of the articles and videos on the Internet fail to mention is the HUGE hazards associated with these transformers. They put out high voltage, but more importantly HIGH CURRENT and pose a huge risk of instant fatal electrocution by forcing high current through your body, potentially disrupting your hearts synchronisation. The hazard is increased greatly by the ability of the high voltage to create current paths across materials you might normally consider as insulated, particularly in this technique where conductive liquid gets splashed everywhere. I do NOT recommend using microwave oven transformers outside of a fully grounded and safety interlocked enclosure.
The use of lower current neon sign transformers is still capable of delivering a significant shock, but by default they are current limited and pose much less of a fatality risk. The lower current also creates a slower and more detailed result without blowing big chunks out of your creation like a higher current transformer will.
It's harder to get traditional neon transformers these days due to the higher use of LED lighting technology in signs. If you ask at a local sign shop they may be able to sell you either a new or old one. Note that modern units have safety circuitry built in to cut power to a sign if it starts arcing or goes open circuit. This type is not really suited to the wood burning as it will trip out. Some electronic neon transformers are also very fickle and may fail when used in non-neon applications. The popular F.A.R.T (yes really) transformers tend to have removable electronic modules in them that allow them to be used as a simple transformer.
You could also try eBay for a traditional core and coil neon transformer.
Oh, and one last thing.... Do not use microwave oven transformers. I just thought I'd mention that again.

You can get a selection of different LED lamp kits on eBay, and while they pretty much cost the same as a complete built lamp, the kit form does allow you to modify them to make customised lamps.
In this video I build a very psychedelic lamp that alternates between blue and red LEDs at mains frequency to give a trippy red/blue trail effect.
I also used this video to test two pairs of cheap electronic lead cutters from eBay. One of which unexpectedly turned out to be a clone of an American brand!
