Rainbow is a British children's television series, created by Pamela Lonsdale, which ran between five times weekly, twice weekly and once weekly at 12:10 on Tuesdays and Fridays on the ITV network, from 1 September 1972 to 31 December 1992. It was intended to develop language and number skills for pre-school children, and went on to win the Society of Film and Television Arts Award for Best Children's Programme in 1975.
The show had three producers over its lifetime - Pamela Lonsdale, Charles Warren and Joe Boyer.
The programme was originally conceived as a British equivalent of long-running American educational puppet series Sesame Street. The British series would be developed in house by Thames Television, and had no input from the Children's Television Workshop.
After more than 1000 episodes (a total of 1071 episodes with 23 seasons), the series came to an abrupt end when Thames Television lost its ITV franchise at the end of 1992. Since then, it has gained cult status and continues to get frequent mentions on radio and television.

Genres: Action, Drama, Music,Part 1 of nearly a full episode from the first series of UK kid's show Rainbow from 1972, and need it be said, with the original, maddest and best version of Bungle. Not the widely available first ever episode, but a little further into the same series, and the first venture into 'water', done a few times subsequently. Zippy has quite a few spoken lines here, with his mouth 'fixed' since the first episode. Also at times sounding like UK comedy actor Adrian Edmondson (and getting as anarchic), but it's evident Peter Hawkins's successor Roy Skelton kept elements of this voice. Music is provided by Telltale, who had about 6 members, though usually only a combination of 3 of them performed each song. Technical info : The source was uploaded on here a few years ago, but was very out-of-sync an...
The first episode of Rainbow ends with our inquisitive hairy friend, John Leeson's original, best and maddest Bungle finding out what David Cook's up to with his 2p coin. They say "Bye", David leaves Bungle with his 2p and takes the rest of his money, goes to the pub and spends around 16p for a pint. By this time we're watching the end credits while dancing (Bungle style) to the famous theme tune.
Set-list: 1. Your Move/All Good People, 2. The Clap, 3. And You and I, 4. Close to the Edge, 5. Excerpts from The Six Wives of Henry VIII, 6. Roundabout, 7. Yours Is No Disgrace, 8. Excerpt from Starship Trooper Steve Howe, Jon Anderson, Alan White, Chris Squire, Rick Wakeman
Complete concert. Second set sound quality not as good as the first. This was from DVD audio. Hope it sounds OK. Rainbvow Theatre,Finsbury Park,London,February 20,1972
*16 downvotes - what?!* There's no accounting for taste. From the first episode, the superb song "Shapes" is performed for the second time, on this occasion by John Leeson's original wild-eyed Bungle, Zippy and Hugh Portnow- the composer of the song. Zippy has a touch of lock-jaw and Bungle's dancing is manic and to add to it he performs his verse in a style which may well have inspired Jack Nicholson's performance for The Shining. Also, Bungle's dancing here is often imitated by all my friends when we're out (after a few sherbets)
A quick video for a great song. The B-side of "Hello Hello Hello" by Rainbow from 1972. NOT Richie Blackmore's Rainbow, mind you.
For more than 25 years the music from around the campfires of the Rainbow Gathering has inspired the hearts of thousands worldwide. Since 1972 the Rainbow family has sponsored a yearly "Gathering of the Tribes", focused around a fourth of July silent prayer for peace on Earth. Rainbow Spirit is a prayer for peace among all nations, hope for the future, and love and respect for our creator, mother earth and all our relations. (Running time: 1 hour 41 minutes) Permission was given to share this video with you. This program was digitized from a freshly-opened tape - the audio noise was already present, but I thought you might enjoy it anyway. - Ed http://enlightenedfilms.com
Original pre-Rod, Jane & Freddy house band for the classic kid's TV show Rainbow. Known as Telltale, these hairy, flarey trousered musical geniuses also wrote and performed the well-known theme as well as this superior-for-kid's-TV song called "Shapes". There were actually six members of the band, but they mainly interchanged between three of them at a time. The fella singing the third verse (round/circle) is distinctive in voice here as the singer of the theme used for the following 20 years - Tim Thomas who still sings, plays guitar, works in theatre and has recently written acclaimed musicals - so not too busy! Clips of Poirot actor Hugh Fraser can be found on clicking the "Rainbow TV Show" link below (yes, Hastings was in this band!) The link leads to a treasure trove of full episodes ...

Bowie used this concert to introduce theatre and multi-media to rock performances, something which was totally revolutionary for the time. The concert was a huge critical success and was later described as "the most extravagant ...

Well I woke up this mornin',
Rainbows filled the sky,
Yes I woke up this mornin',
Rainbows filled the sky,
And there was God,
Tellin' me,
"Everythings gonna be alright"
Well so long good friends,
When will we meet again?
I said so long good friends,
When will we meet again?
Well I don't know,
I don't know,
But I guess I'll see you through
[G Love] "I'll see you man"
Well I'm gonna pack my own guitar,
Move on down the road,
(keep on movin)
I'm gonna pack my own guitar,
Move on down the road
(Where ya gonna go?)
Oh, where I go,
I don't know,
But I guess I just gots' to go
Well I woke up this mornin',
Rainbows filled the sky,
Well I woke up this mornin'
Rainbows filled the sky,
And there was god,
Tellin' me,
