The United States Army (USA) is the largest branch of the United States Armed Forces and performs land-based military operations. It is one of the seven uniformed services of the United States, and is designated as the Army of the United States in the United States Constitution, Article 2, Section 2, Clause 1 and United States Code, Title 10, Subtitle B, Chapter 301, Section 3001. As the largest and senior branch of the U.S. military, the modern U.S. Army has its roots in the Continental Army, which was formed (14 June 1775) to fight the American Revolutionary War (1775–83)—before the U.S. was established as a country. After the Revolutionary War, the Congress of the Confederation created the United States Army on 3 June 1784, to replace the disbanded Continental Army. The United States Army considers itself descended from the Continental Army, and dates its institutional inception from the origin of that armed force in 1775.
The Bell 206 is a family of two-bladed, single- or twin-engined helicopters, manufactured by Bell Helicopter at its Mirabel, Quebec plant. Originally developed as the Bell YOH-4 for the United States Army's Light Observation Helicopter program, it was not selected by the Army. Bell redesigned the airframe and successfully marketed the aircraft commercially as the five-place Bell 206A JetRanger. The new design was eventually selected by the Army as the OH-58 Kiowa. Bell also developed a seven-place LongRanger, which was later offered with a twin-engined option as the TwinRanger, while Tridair Helicopters offers a similar conversion of the LongRanger called the Gemini ST. The ICAO-assigned model designation "B06" is used on flight plans for the JetRanger and LongRanger, and the designation "B06T" is used for the twin-engined TwinRangers.
On October 14, 1960, the United States Navy solicited response from 25 aircraft manufacturers to a request for proposals (RFP) on behalf of the Army for the Light Observation Helicopter (LOH). Bell entered the competition along with 12 other manufacturers, including Hiller Aircraft and Hughes Tool Co., Aircraft Division. Bell submitted the D-250 design, which would be designated as the YHO-4. On May 19, 1961, Bell and Hiller were announced as winners of the design competition.

I was flying with 2LT Shawn Webster, which was the first class that I had started them with zero time and taking them all the way through their P2 check ride, which is essentially the same as a private license in the civilian world. I had another class, but picked them up after their first check ride and finished them up. Maneuvers included in this video consist of a low-level autorotation @ 90KIAS and 50ft above the highest obstacle, standard autorotation, max performance takeoff, and a normal takeoff from the ground.
Hold On Loosely by 38 Special, all rights reserved. The TH-67 Creek Training Helicopter has been the primary trainer for U.S. Army aviators since 1993, and is set to be retired in 2017. Notoriously unstable (especially when compared with its combat equivalent the OH-58 Kiowa), beginner flight students usually grip the controls too tightly and throw the aircraft out of its precarious balance. Instructor pilots admonish them to "hold on loosely," using the lightest grip possible to damp feedback and pilot induced oscillations. Of course, if a pilot holds on too loosely and lets go, the controls will fall over spontaneously and the helicopter will crash. Army aviators are made of stern stuff, indeed. (Dedicated to Common Core Class 15-024)

So, I went and filmed at one of the family days on the opposite shift. The video takes place at Allen Stage Field, which is associated with Ft. Rucker, in AL. The stage field has 6 lanes, all of which are controlled from a control tower. This is the first stage field for most students where radios are introduced to the full workload they will have for their final check ride during primary. At this hour level, approx 30-35 hours the students are practicing max performance takeoffs, touchdown autorotations, run on type landings, takeoff from the ground, steep approaches, and some other maneuvers ...

Join Heli Network on Facebook for more videos and pictures On our one cross country flight every 8 weeks we were on our way to Panama City, FL, making a stop at Defuniak Springs, FL on the dirt runway 36/18 in our TH-67 Creek / Bell Jet Ranger. It was a beautiful day for a cross-country flight. We stopped here to swap out students. Meaning whoever was sitting in the back was now going to be flying. It was great experience for them to get a least a little dust experience.
Army TH-67 helicopter built from a century 50 size Jet Ranger fuselage. hawk sport mechanics that have been converted to electric are inside. it has a century 800kv motor with a turnigy esc running on 5s lipo batteries. blades are 600mm Maveric G5 pross. painted from a spraycan with automotive clearcoat. it has functioning nav and strobe lights as well as lanfing and searchlights. a detailed cockpit willcome soon. The TH-67 is the us army's primary and instrument helicopter trainer here at FT Rucker.

Will college grad Kelly Keaton rise to the occasion, or will Army Flight School leave him grounded?
On this episode of Roadkill, the boys are back to kick off Season 4 with their most epic engine swap to date! This time Finnegan and Freiburger drag an old Rogers Bonneville jet boat to a local Southern California lake behind the Muscle Truck, a lowered 1974 Chevrolet C10 pickup that's powered by a Chevrolet Performance LS6 crate engine. Once at the lake, they proceed to remove the engine from the truck and install it into the boat, hoping to do a little drag racing during the Tom Papp Memorial boating event. As usual things don't go as planned but the guys still manage to have fun involving an outhouse, shower curtains, scummy water and a trailer hitch. Oh yeah, did we mention that after going boating Finnegan and Freiburger still had to take the engine back out of the boat and re-install...
Here's a nice thunderstorm with some strong winds, loud thunder and some sideways rain. The scene even "goes green" near the beginning of the storm.

At long last - the General Class videos are finally here. This is a 3-part session that took some time to edit. I wasn't happy with the session I recorded in Spring of 2016, so I had to wait until September for the W5HRC club's next class. Then editing, traveling and all of the other videos pushed it back some - but it is finally here and good until 2019. So you have about 2.5 years to go get your upgrade. Let me know in the comments below once you pass your exam!
This is the last HH-46E "Phrog" to perform a cross-country flight from Marine Corps Air Base - Cherry Point, NC and landing at the Vietnam Helicopters Flying Museum in Concord, CA on April 30, 2016.
On this episode of Roadkill, the boys reignite their desire to go Ice Racing in Alaska! If you remember episode 2 of Roadkill, Freiburger and Finnegan hit the road in a '68 Ford Ranchero with a wild goal: to drive 3,600 miles from Los Angeles, California, to Big Lake, Alaska, to go ice racing. Somehow, they instead found themselves in the bottom of the Grand Canyon. You really need to check out Episode 2 to understand the level of fail that has chased these guys. But now, 14 months later, the guys are trying it again. The Ranchero's engine was freshened up and reinstalled just days before the second attempt. The goal: to run the ALCAN Highway on the way to the ice races with the Alaska Sports Car Club outside of Anchorage in Big Lake, Alaska. Will they get it done this time? Watch to find ...
