FOR HISTORICAL PURPOSES ONLY
The Rolling Stones were in Los Angeles in 1972, recording at Sunset Sound, after spending part of the previous year living in the south of France for tax reasons. There, in the basement of Keith Richards' rented villa at Nellcôte, they had recorded the basic tracks for their next album. When they were in California, those tracks became the core of "Exile On Main Street."
In Los Angeles, photographer Robert Frank used Super 8mm to film the Stones as they walked along Main Street in LA's skid row.

Frames from this reel were famously used throughout the cover and inner sleeves of "Exile."
As available on DVD, it appears that the original film was cut into short strips (perhaps for Frank's convenience in his darkroom?). As a result, nearly all sequences were out of sequence. Frank also edited the 8mm film with other footage he had shot of New York City's skid row, The Bowery. FOR HISTORICAL PURPOSES, only the Rolling Stones parts are shown here and they have been re-arranged and slowed down.

Main Street
Main Street is a generic phrase used to denote a primary retail street of a village, town or small city in many parts of the world. It is usually a focal point for shops and retailers in the central business district, and is most often used in reference to retailing and socializing.
The term is commonly used in Ireland, Scotland, the United States, Canada, and less often in Australia and New Zealand. In most of the United Kingdom the common description is High Street. However, the term "Main Street" is sometimes used in the UK, for instance, in the village of Sutton Cheney. In Jamaica the term is Front Street. In some parts of the south west of England the equivalent used is Fore Street.
In some larger cities, there may be several Main Streets, each relating to a specific neighborhood or formerly separate city, rather than the city as a whole. In many larger U.S. cities "Main Street" is a U.S. Highway; "Main Street of America" branding was used to promote U.S. Route 66 in its heyday.

The Rolling Stones
The Rolling Stones are an English rock band formed in London in 1962. The first settled line-up consisted of Brian Jones (guitar, harmonica), Ian Stewart (piano), Mick Jagger (lead vocals, harmonica), Keith Richards (guitar), Bill Wyman (bass) and Charlie Watts (drums). Stewart was removed from the official line-up in 1963 but continued as an occasional pianist until his death in 1985. Jones departed the band less than a month prior to his death in 1969, having already been replaced by Mick Taylor, who remained until 1975. Subsequently, Ronnie Wood has been on guitar in tandem with Richards. Following Wyman's departure in 1993, Darryl Jones has been the main bassist. Other notable keyboardists for the band have included Nicky Hopkins, active from 1967 to 1982; Billy Preston through the mid 1970s (most prominent on Black and Blue) and Chuck Leavell, active since 1982. The band was first led by Jones but after teaming as the band's songwriters, Jagger and Richards assumed de facto leadership.

Exile on Main St
Exile on Main St is a double album by English rock band the Rolling Stones, released on 12 May 1972 by Rolling Stones Records. It was their tenth studio album released in the United Kingdom. The album's music incorporates rock and roll, blues, soul, country, and gospel genres.
Although it originally received mixed reviews,Exile on Main St has been ranked on various lists as one of the greatest albums of all time.
The 2010 remastered version of the album was released in Europe on 17 May 2010 and in the United States on 18 May 2010, featuring a bonus disc with 10 new tracks.
Recording
Exile on Main St was written and recorded between 1969 and 1972. Mick Jagger said "After we got out of our contract with Allen Klein, we didn't want to give him [those earlier tracks]," as they were forced to do with "Brown Sugar" and "Wild Horses" from Sticky Fingers (1971). Many tracks were recorded between 1969 and 1971 at Olympic Studios and Jagger's Stargroves country house in England during sessions for Sticky Fingers.

Rock (geology)
In geology, rock or stone is a naturally occurring solid aggregate of one or more minerals or mineraloids. For example, the common rock granite is a combination of the quartz, feldspar and biotite minerals. The Earth's outer solid layer, the lithosphere, is made of rock.
Rocks have been used by mankind throughout history. From the Stone Age, rocks have been used for tools. The minerals and metals found in rocks have been essential to human civilization.
Three major groups of rocks are defined: igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic. The scientific study of rocks is called petrology, which is an essential component of geology.
Classification
At a granular level, rocks are composed of grains of minerals, which, in turn, are homogeneous solids formed from a chemical compound that is arranged in an orderly manner. The aggregate minerals forming the rock are held together by chemical bonds. The types and abundance of minerals in a rock are determined by the manner in which the rock was formed. Many rocks contain silica (SiO2); a compound of silicon and oxygen that forms 74.3% of the Earth's crust. This material forms crystals with other compounds in the rock. The proportion of silica in rocks and minerals is a major factor in determining their name and properties.

Sweet Virginia
"Sweet Virginia" is the sixth track on the Rolling Stones' 1972 double album Exile On Main St.. It was also released as the b-side of the "Rocks Off" single in Japan.
Recorded between 1971 and '72, "Sweet Virginia" is a slow country inspired song, written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. The song features a harmonica solo by Jagger, a saxophone solo by Bobby Keys. Charlie Watts plays a country shuffle rhythm.
The song was performed by the Stones during their 1972 American tour, their 1994 Voodoo Lounge Tour tour and their 2005 A Bigger Bang Tour. "Sweet Virginia" has also been covered by the band Phish and Old Crow Medicine Show in concerts.
Also recorded by Ronnie Lane.
The song was used in the 1995 film Casino starring Robert De Niro.

FOR HISTORICAL PURPOSES ONLY The Rolling Stones were in Los Angeles in 1972, recording at Sunset Sound, after spending part of the previous year living in the south of France for tax reasons. There, in the basement of Keith Richards' rented villa at Nellcôte, they had recorded the basic tracks for their next album. When they were in California, those tracks became the core of "Exile On Main Street." In Los Angeles, photographer Robert Frank used Super 8mm to film the Stones as they walked along Main Street in LA's skid row. FOR HISTORICAL PURPOSES, only the Rolling Stones parts are shown here and they have been re-arranged and slowed down.

The Rolling Stones were in Los Angeles in 1972, recording at Sunset Sound, after spending part of the previous year living in the south of France for tax reasons. There, in the basement of Keith Richards' rented villa at Nellcôte, they had recorded the basic tracks for their next album. When they were in California, those tracks became the core of "Exile On Main Street."
In Los Angeles, photographer Robert Frank used Super 8mm to film the Stones as they walked along Main Street in LA's skid row.

Frank also edited the 8mm film with other footage he had shot of New York City's skid row, The Bowery. FOR HISTORICAL PURPOSES, only the Rolling Stones parts are shown here and they have been re-arranged and slowed down.

British economic growth in Q1 disappointing than expected

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) figures released Thursday reveal a weaker growth in the dominant services sector, which accounts for more than three quarters of the economy and whose growth had been driven by strong consumer spending over the past few years. Net trade dropped 1.4 percentage points as exports fell by 1.6 percent on the previous quarter and imports rose by 2.7 percent....
