Nestling in the lush green landscape in Koshi Zone, Dhankuta is known for its spectacular scenery, pastoral setting and warm-hearted people. Dhankuta is rich in biodiversity and has balanced environment with abundant natural resources. Out of the numerous hills, one spectacular spot is the top of Danda Bazaar which is called Dhoje Danda. Dhoje Danda is located in the south. Similarly, Mahabharat Range which is the highest point of the region extends to cover a large part of Dhankuta district offering natural beauty at its best. According to legend, the Lepchas who once lived there, placed tall bamboo pillars and adorned them with multi colored cloth that made them look like flags. So the name is derived from it and has been called Dhoje Danda (Flag Hilltop). Lepchas were the ethnic people in the region. Dhoje Danda is located 29 KM away from Dharan. It is connected via Dharan, Bhedetar, Namje, Okhre, Odare, Lumphajung by motorcycles, cars, bus or by foot-for the sturdy ones!. While visiting Dhoje Danda you will come across Vedetar. Vedetar can be reached easily with the vehicle. This scenic hill is only 16 KM away from Dharan on the Koshi highway. On the way you can experience, pristine nature and culture in association with forest, green hills, singing sounds of streams and brooks. Similarly, birds of various species can be heard chirping melodies to welcome visitors. One amazing thing to add in its unprecedented beauty is the constantly changing weather which, in a moment, is covered with fog and mist. Suddenly, in no time the weatherturns crystal clear. Visitors can see green hill tops all around this place as well as Saguri Bhanjyang, Dharan, Dhankuta Bazaar, and plains of Terai Region with spectacular sunset view at Sapta Khosi River. This is the boundary that separates Sunsari and Dhankuta as well. The elevation is 1420 meters above sea level and most parts remain cold throughout the year. Many domestic tourists come to Vedetar during summer season to escape the heat of Terai. In 1983 AD, Prince Charles of England visited Vedetar. Later people named this place Charles' Point. Now, a View Tower has been built here. This View Tower was built in 2001 AD by Dhankuta Village Development Committee. Many domestic and foreign tourists are attracted to this View Tower to observe beautiful surroundings. Vedetar is very popular destination for all tourists. After covering a combined journey of 15 minutes drive and 10 minutes walk from Vedetar, we reach Pathivara Bhagvati Temple. If people worship in this temple it is believed that they will achieve what they desire and wish. In Vedetar VDC also called Village Development Committee ward No. 6, Namaste is the place where Namaste water fall lies. This is the center of attraction nowadays. In half an hour drive from Vedetar to Namaste bend and then after 30 minutes walk upward, we reach to Namaste water falls. Many domestic tourists visit to see this fall to enjoy its beauty. After crossing Namaste Jharana water fall which is called Jharna in Nepali language, we can reach Namje village. This typical village was listed in the 8th position among 12 best destinations in the World as per the survey made by CNN in the year 2011.
