It threatened to be an ugly Friday night game and on that count it delivered. Port were never in danger after kicking the game's first four goals, and while the Blues lifted in the second term, Port piled on 12 goals to four after the break, with Robbie Gray starring with five goals.

Port continue their impressive start to the season moving to 3-2, although there is a concern with skipper Travis Boak, who left the ground early with hamstring tightness.

For the young Blues there was pain, but that happens when you play kids. There is likely to be debate about the merits of them getting Friday night games at this stage of their development though.

The Blues had done well to stem the early bleeding but the pain intensified dramatically in the third term as Port dominated territorially, keeping Carlton scoreless and adding 6.10. It could have been much worse if the Power had kicked straight. The only worry for the hosts was the hamstring tightness felt by captain Travis Boak, whose game looks over after ice was applied.
