Rolf Harris not guilty of indecent assaults

The 87-year-old entertainer heard at Southwark Crown Court on Tuesday that the prosecution would not seek a further retrial on charges that he groped teenage girls.

The decision came after the jury in the London trial failed to reach a verdict on all four counts.

Accordingly, Judge Deborah Taylor formally found Harris not guilty of the charges.

The 87-year-old entertainer has been accused of groping three teenage girls in 1971, 1978 and 1983 when they were aged 14, 16 and 13.

After the hearing Harris' solicitor Daniel Berke read a message from his client to waiting media.

"I am pleased it is finally over. I feel no sense of victory, just relief," Harris said in the message.

"I am 87 years old with a sick wife and I want to spend my final years in peace."

Harris also thanked his legal team, headed by Stephen Vullo QC, and his investigative team.

"Above all I want to thank my wonderful friends and family who have supported me and Alwyn over this difficult period."

Harris later left the court through a media scrum before getting into a black Audi for the drive to his home in Berkshire.

He was released from Stafford Prison on May 19 after serving time on previous convictions.
