Narita (成田市, Narita-shi) is a city located in Chiba Prefecture, Japan. It is the site of Narita International Airport, the main international airport serving the Greater Tokyo Area.
As of March 31, 2011, the city has an estimated population of 126,235, with 54,021 households and a population density of 590.33 persons per km². Its total area is 213.84 km².
Central Narita is roughly defined as the area between Narita Station, Keisei Narita Station and the Narita-san Temple. The main road in central Narita is Omotesandō (表参道), which is lined with about 150 small shops and has been extensively renovated in recent years.
Narita New Town is a planned residential area to the west of Narita Station. It has 16,000 homes with a total population of 60,000. The area was designed in 1968 based on the new towns surrounding London in the UK, and now houses most of the city's population. Many residents of the area are airport or airline workers: the new town houses corporate housing and dormitories for Japan Airlines, All Nippon Airways, the Japan Civil Aviation Bureau and Japan Customs. There are also several Urban Renaissance Agency and other government-subsidized housing projects in the area.
Narita International Airport (成田国際空港, Narita Kokusai Kūkō) (IATA: NRT, ICAO: RJAA), also known as Tokyo Narita Airport, formerly and originally known as New Tokyo International Airport (新東京国際空港, Shin Tōkyō Kokusai Kūkō), is an international airport serving the Greater Tokyo Area of Japan. It is located approximately 60 kilometres (37 mi) east of central Tokyo in Chiba Prefecture, straddling the border between the city of Narita and the adjacent town of Shibayama.
Narita is the predominant international airport in Japan, handling around 50% of the country's international passenger traffic and 60% of its international air cargo traffic. As of 2013, Narita was the second-busiest passenger airport in Japan (after Haneda Airport in Tokyo), and was the tenth-busiest air freight hub in the world. Its 4,000-metre (13,123 ft) main runway shares the record for longest runway in Japan with the second runway at Kansai International Airport in Osaka.
Narita serves as the main international hub of Japan Airlines, All Nippon Airways and Nippon Cargo Airlines, and as a hub for low-cost carriers Jetstar Japan, Peach and Vanilla Air. It also serves as an Asian hub for Delta Air Lines and United Airlines.

I had a long layover during the day in Narita airport, which is about 1.5 hours away from Tokyo. Though Tokyo was somewhat close by, I decided to visit Narita City, which is only a 10-minute train ride from the airport...was not disappointed! Though it was a cold & rainy day, it did not stop me or many other tourists from visiting the walking city! The big highlights for me were: Buddhist temple, rows of shops selling snacks to souvenirs, & the food (Unagi and takoyaki). ► Here's a look at Omotesando, an old lively street in Narita, lined by numerous restaurants and shops, that have been selling traditional crafts, foods and souvenirs to tourists and pilgrims for centuries. Omotesando street has more than 150 shops, offering everything from unagi (grilled eel) sembei (rice crackers with soy, seaweed, and spices), to sake and custom made chopsticks of the highest quality. Visiting this old street is the next best thing to timetravel, so if you happen to be in Tokyo, I strongly recommend visiting here. Easy access to Omotesando Street from Narita Station (NOT the Narita Airport Station) by Keisei Line. - Enjoy!
Description| Gift Shopping, Fortune Reading, and Shin shoji Temple | This is how I spent a quick 24 hours in Narita, Japan. I don't think anything can truly capture how beautiful and relaxing this place is. But I tried my best! I arrived late in the evening and went out for food- picked up a few knickknacks- mostly GREENTEA KITKATS!! Mmmh- they are an absolute must!! And then headed back for a (kind of) early night. Then- Shin shoji temple in the morning! There is so much else to see- you can even get the train into Tokyo if you like- but this is just a little idea of how I made the most of my 24hours! Hope you enjoy following me around Narita, Hugs and kisses! Sam xXx Music: 1st song- all credit to Derek Fiechter- he's amazing! https://itunes.apple.com/album/world-of-wonders/id8082...
