Jackson Hole is the valley floor between the Teton Mountain Range and the Snake River, located along the border of Wyoming and Idaho. The name "hole" was used by early trappers or mountain men, who primarily entered the valley from the north and east and had to descend along relatively steep slopes, giving the sensation of entering a hole. These low-lying valleys are surrounded by mountains and contain rivers and streams, which were good habitat for beaver and other fur-bearing animals.
The town of "Jackson" was named by Margaret Simpson in late 1893, who at the time was receiving mail at her home as there was no post office. She named the town in order for easterners to be able to forward mail west. The town became incorporated in 1914. The town was named after David Edward "Davey" Jackson who trapped beaver in the area in the late 1820s while he was a partner in the firm of Smith, Jackson & Sublette. Davy Jackson was the first white man to spend an entire winter in the Valley of the Teton Mountains. Though used by Native Americans for hunting and ceremonial purposes, the valley was not known to harbor year-round human settlement prior to the 1870s. Descriptions of the valley and its features were recorded in the journals of John Colter, who had been a member of the Lewis and Clark Expedition. After returning to the Rocky Mountains, Colter entered the region in 1807 in the vicinity of Togwotee Pass and became the first white American to see the valley. His reports of the valley, the Teton Range and the Yellowstone region to the north were viewed by people of the day with skepticism.

Exploring Jackson for the first time during the snow storm that would eventually prove too much for the mountain; cutting power to the resort and rendering the 'Hole closed for a day. We even poked around the side-country through the gates and triggered a small slide on a relative pitch above some exposed hardware... Do not head out there without some knowledgeable pow-buddies.

Like nowhere else in the Unites States, Wyoming has become the indelible symbol of the legendary Old Wild West where vast untouched prairies and the magnificent Rocky Mountains make up the wonderful scenery of this cowboy State. Sometimes erroneously referred to as ‘buffalo’, the bison is probably the most famous animal that roams the North American plains and is known by the Sioux Indians as, ‘tatanka’. In addition to prairie land, bison can also be found in forest areas such as The Grand Teton National Park. Once a year the otherwise peaceful town of Strurgis is transformed into one of the largest motorcycle gatherings in the world. For an entire week everything focuses upon chrome, horsepower and the name, Harley Davidson. Motorcyclists travel here from each corner of the United Stat...

Jackson Hole, WY. Home of Corbet's Couloir and Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. Corbet’s was named after Jackson Hole ski instructor and mountain guide Barry Corbet who spotted the narrow crease of snow and was quoted saying, "Someday someone will ski that.” Corbet's was first skied by local ski patroller Lonnie Ball in 1967 and has gained an international reputation from skiers that travel across the globe looking to drop in and test their skill. To get to Corbet’s, one must jump in the famous Jackson Hole Tram that carries up to 100 passengers a distance of 12,463 feet and 4,139 vertical feet to the top of Rendezvous Mountain. After exiting the tram at 10,450 ft, skiers wanting to check out Corbet’s venture to the left, while others that head to the right can ski down Rendezvous Bowl or h...
What would you do if your friend were in an avalanche? Would you be prepared to take control and get them to safety? These are the questions that TGR seeks to answer during its annual International Pro Riders Workshop (IPRW). Once a year all of our athletes and cinematographers converge to learn avalanche rescue technique, wilderness first aid, evacuation procedures, and rope work. This year the event was held at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort and conducted by TGR lead guide Kent Scheler and his team along with Exum Guides Zahan Billimoria and Micah Rush. The athletes also learned about a new technology from Avatech. Avatech is integrating technology into snow safety and has developed a revolutionary probe that can map layers in the snowpack. This data is then uploaded to their correspondin...
