Virginia Patterson Hensley (September 8, 1932 – March 5, 1963), known professionally as Patsy Cline, was an American singer. Part of the early 1960s Nashville sound, Cline successfully "crossed over" to pop music and was one of the most influential, successful and acclaimed vocalists of the 20th century. She died at the age of 30 in a multiple-fatality crash in the private plane of her manager, Randy Hughes.
Cline was best known for her rich tone, emotionally expressive and bold contralto voice and her role as a country music industry pioneer. Along with Kitty Wells, she helped pave the way for women as headline performers in the genre. Cline was cited as an inspiration by singers in several styles. Books, movies, documentaries, articles and stage plays document her life and career.
Her hits began in 1957 with Donn Hecht's and Alan Block's "Walkin' After Midnight", Hank Cochran's and Harlan Howard's "I Fall to Pieces", Hank Cochran's "She's Got You", Willie Nelson's "Crazy" and ended in 1963 with Don Gibson's "Sweet Dreams".
Patsy is a given name often used as a diminutive of the feminine given name Patricia or sometimes the masculine name Patrick, or occasionally other names containing the syllable "Pat" or "Pet" (such as Cleopatra, Patience, or Patrice). Among Italian-Americans, it is often used as a pet name for Pasquale.
In older usage, Patsy was also a nickname for Martha or Matilda, following a common nicknaming pattern of changing an M to a P (such as in Margaret → Meg/Meggy → Peg/Peggy; and Molly → Polly) and adding a feminine suffix. President George Washington called his wife, Martha, "Patsy" in private correspondence, while President Thomas Jefferson's eldest daughter Martha was known by the nickname "Patsy," while his daughter Mary was called "Polly."
While usually a feminine diminutive name, from the 18th century Patsy also came to be used as a nickname for men and boys called Patrick.
The popularity of the name has waned with the rise of its, chiefly North American, meaning as "dupe" or "scapegoat". This usage comes from the early 20th Century vaudevillian Billy B. Van, whose character, Patsy Bolivar, was more often than not an innocent victim of unscrupulous or nefarious characters.
Jade Louise Ewen (born 24 January 1988) is an English singer, songwriter, actress and a former member of the band Sugababes. Ewen began her singing career in a girl group named Trinity Stone, which signed with Sony BMG in 2005 but disbanded in 2007 without releasing an album. In 2009, after winning the right, she represented the United Kingdom in the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest by performing the Andrew Lloyd Webber penned "It's My Time". She finished in fifth place, making her the most successful British Eurovision act since 2002. She is well-known for her Connie Francis-like vocals.
Ewen replaced Keisha Buchanan in the group Sugababes in September 2009. Since joining, the group has achieved two UK top-ten singles and one album.
Ewen was born and brought up in Plaistow, London, to a Jamaican mother, Carol, and a Scottish-Sicilian father, Trevor. Trevor is blind and partially deaf, while Carol is partially blind. Because of her parents' disabilities, Ewen is a caregiver to both of her parents as well as her two younger siblings, Shereen and Kiel. She attended Brampton Manor Academy before transferring to the Sylvia Young Theatre School (SYTS) after receiving a scholarship. While a student at SYTS, she appeared in the television productions The Bill, Casualty and Mr. Harvey Lights a Candle. At the age of twelve, Ewen auditioned for and won the part of Nala in The Lion King at the West End Theatre.
"She's Got You" is a pop song written by Hank Cochran and was first recorded and released as a single by Patsy Cline in 1962. Musically the song is an upbeat jazz-pop song with country overtones to support it.
According to the Ellis Nassour Biography, Honky Tonk Angel: The Intimate Story of Patsy Cline, writer Hank Cochran remembers calling Cline up telling her that he'd just written her next number 1 hit. She told him to come over to her house with a bottle of liquor and play it on the guitar for her and friend Dottie West who was visiting that afternoon. Cline was emotionally moved by its lyrics and loved the song so much that she learned it that night, calling up her manager and producer to sing it to them over the phone. At her next session, she recorded it. This was a rare instance, as Cline and her producer, Owen Bradley, often disagreed with each other's choice of material. This time, they both agreed they had a hit.
"She's Got You" was written as Cline's follow-up single to her two previous big hits of the previous year, "I Fall to Pieces" and "Crazy." "She's Got You" was released on January 30, 1962 and immediately went to No. 1 on the Hot C&W Sides country chart. and to No. 14 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song also went to number three on the Easy Listening chart. "She's Got You" was very important to Cline's career as it marked her first hit single in the United Kingdom, where it reached No. 43. "She's Got You" later became classic and was one of the songs to help jump-start Cline's career. The hit became so successful, it led to an appearance on American Bandstand with Dick Clark that February and led to Cline having her own show in Las Vegas in the following November. "She's Got You" was followed by a couple of other minor hits that year, including "Imagine That," "When I Get Thru' With You," "So Wrong," and "Strange." On August 6, 1962, Cline's third album Sentimentally Yours was released, featuring "She's Got You".

*STEREO*. Patsy Cline sings "Crazy". Perfection. Surely, one of the best ballads ever written (by Willie Nelson, no less) - and sung. 1961.
Patsy Cline - She's Got You Thought I'd put this up because I've noticed that compared to other videos, the quality seems a little bit better. Hope you enjoy it!

Walkin' After Midnight written by Alan Block and Donn Hecht performed live by Patsy Cline with Owen Bradley (piano), Grady Martin and Hank Garland (guitars), and Bob Moore (off camera, bass) at WSM-TV, 5700 Knob Rd, Nashville TN on the "Top Of The Morning" show, May 1957. There is great debate as to exactly where this "newly-re-discovered" clip originates. The popular view is that this comes from CBS's Arthur Godfrey's Talent Scouts, 21 January 1957. However, I have heard radio audio of what is also suppose to be this broadcast and it does not sound anything like what is heard here. Here is an interesting tidbit pertaining to the song itself. It was written in 1954 specifically for Kay Starr, who turned it down. Patsy didn't care for it either but, recorded it to appease Four Star, who ...

Introduced by Guy Willis, of the Willis Brothers, Patsy Cline performs the "A" side of her recently released Decca single during this guest appearance on the syndicated "Pet Milk Grand Ole Opry". Still resistant to the song, Patsy has not fully mastered the lyrics. She flubs one line near the beginning while The Jordanaires sing the correct lyrics. Previously unreleased. Recorded LIVE in WSM's Studio C, for broadcast on April 14, 1961. Audio taken from the original Pet Milk Grand Ole Opry transcription disc, restored using MAGIX Audio Cleaning Lab.
A rare video treat. Patsy Cline performs "You're Stronger Than Me," live on Nashville's WSM-TV on August 7, 1962. The audio from this performance was issued in 2012 on the Hip-O Records CD "On The Air: Her Greatest TV Performances". This video has been synchronized to the remastered audio track from the CD. Sweet Dreams is a 1985 biographical film which tells the life story of country music singer Patsy Cline. The film was written by Robert Getchell and directed by Karel Reisz. It stars Jessica Lange, Ed Harris, Ann Wedgeworth, David Clennon, James Staley, Gary Basaraba and John Goodman. The film was nominated for Academy Award for Best Actress (Jessica Lange). For all the musical sequences, Lange lip-synced to the original Patsy Cline recordings. The soundtrack of the same name was released in September 1985. Patsy Cline (Lange) is unhappily married and playing small-time gigs in the tri-state area consisting of Virginia, West Virginia, and Maryland when she meets Charlie Dick (Harris), whose charm and aggressive self-confidence catch her attention. In time, Patsy leaves her husband to ma...

"Sentimentally Yours" is Cline's third studio album released August 7, 1962 on Decca Records. The album was the final studio album she would record before her death in a plane crash less than a year later. The album featured two of Cline's hit singles that year, "She's Got You" and a cover of "Heartaches". Out of the twelve songs featured on the album, only two songs were new, "She's Got You" and "Strange". The ten remaining tracks were cover versions of standards.
