Yoko Ono (小野 洋子, Ono Yōko, born 18 February 1933) is a Japanese multimedia artist, singer and peace activist who is also known for her work in performance art, music and filmmaking. She is the widow and second wife of singer-songwriter John Lennon.
Ono grew up in Tokyo, and studied at Gakushuin. She withdrew from her course after two years and rejoined her family in New York in 1953. She spent some time at Sarah Lawrence College, and then became involved in New York City's downtown artists scene, including the Fluxus group. She first met Lennon in 1966 at her own art exhibition in London, and they became a couple in 1968. Ono and Lennon famously used their honeymoon at the Hilton Amsterdam as a stage for public protests against the Vietnam War with their performance, Bed-Ins for Peace, in Amsterdam and Montreal in 1969. She brought feminism to the forefront in her music, influencing artists as diverse as the B-52s and Meredith Monk. Ono achieved commercial and critical acclaim in 1980 with the chart-topping album Double Fantasy, released with Lennon three weeks before his death.

Plot: In December 1970, John Lennon and Yoko Ono were interviewed by 'Rolling Stone''s Jann S. Wenner prior to the release of their 'Plastic Ono Band' albums. Ten years later, in September 1980, the couple granted their first in-depth interview in five years to 'Playboy' while they were in the process of recording 'Double Fantasy'. RUBBER SOUL reconstructs portions of these two historical interviews based on available transcripts and audio, juxtaposing them in order to explore the dynamic nature of Lennon's identity over time.

Plot: He is known by everybody but nobody really knows him. He finds himself in a wrong situation. His proclaimed devotees are too preoccupied with rules and bureaucracy -or simply with their jobs- to recognize him. This short film, directed by Alec Hahn, is inspired and narrated by the German poet and songwriter Goetz Widmann. It is based on the hypothetical idea of what would happen if Jesus Christ would seek asylum in a first world country. When one rigid belief confronts the other, one of them has to be ignored. The birth of hypocrisy!

Plot: In 1964 a reluctant John Lennon is persuaded by manager Brian Epstein to meet Freddie, the father who abandoned him 17 years earlier, with the press in attendance. The meeting is short and bitter. Three years later Epstein is dead and John invites Freddie to his mansion but again things turn sour, due to Freddie's drinking and insulting Mimi, the aunt who raised John. The Beatles set up Apple records but the press are hostile and Lennon's comment that 'we're more popular than Jesus' doesn't help. Rows with long-suffering wife Cynthia lead to marital breakdown and John's meeting Japanese performance artist Yoko Ono. Family history is repeated as Lennon leaves Cynthia and their son Julian for Ono, by whom he has a second son, Sean. In 1969 John returns his M.B.E. in protest at England's support for the Vietnam War while his stunts with Yoko Ono to promote peace alienate the press. Some months later he disbands the Beatles to the other members' annoyance and, after arguments with Paul McCartney, sees a therapist, who regresses him to the day Freddie left him. He learns that Freddie needs his help to write a biography, leading to one last showdown between father and son.

On 13 September 1969, John Lennon, Yoko Ono and their new band, playing live for the first and last time during the "Toronto Rock and Roll Revival", a one day, twelve hour music festival held in Varsity Stadium, at the University of Toronto, before an audience of over 25,000 people. It featured a number of popular musical acts from the 1950s and 1960s, including Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis, Fats Domino, Bo Diddley, and Gene Vincent and also booked more modern acts such as Alice Cooper, Chicago Transit Authority and The Doors. Toronto rock promoters John Brower and Kenny Walker contacted John Lennon to see if he would be willing to be the master of ceremonies. Lennon responded that if he came over at all, it would be to play, "only if you let me bring my new band so we can...
On 30 August 1972, John Lennon and Yoko Ono performed two shows at the Madison Square Garden in New York City, one in the afternoon and one in the evening, to raise money for children with mental challenges at friend Geraldo Rivera's request. This concert was John and Yoko's last full-length concert performance together, coming right after the release of "Some Time in New York City", which was a commercial failure in the United States. Backing John and Yoko were Elephant's Memory, who had served as John and Yoko's backing band on "Some Time in New York City". The benefit concerts, billed as One to One, also featured other performers in addition to Lennon, including Stevie Wonder, Roberta Flack, Melanie Safka and Sha-Na-Na. Additionally, all of Yoko solo performances, which included "Sis...

John Lennon on tv interview after the Beatles break up with wife Yoko Ono 1969
"The incredible changes that you go through, is life. Life is complex, confusing. The sky is very permanent, not changing." Interview with artist Yoko Ono about how life and art are connected in her work, which she sees as a means for simplifying things. Yoko Ono talks of her performance Sky Piece to Jesus Christ (1965), her interest in music, her use of her voice, as well as more generally about her ideas and working methods. "I just wanted to clear the air" she says of her screaming. She also talks of the relationship between body and mind, and how the body is a kind of material, you can work with. Her interest is mainly the spirit, or concept of things: "We're all together in a thing called life. It's really great. And it's very interesting, because the wind is blowing, the weather, th...
