The World Wide Web (WWW) is an open source information space where documents and other web resources are identified by URLs, interlinked by hypertext links, and can be accessed via the Internet. It has become known simply as the Web. The World Wide Web was central to the development of the Information Age and is the primary tool billions of people use to interact on the Internet.
The World Wide Web was invented by English scientist Tim Berners-Lee in 1989. He wrote the first web browser in 1990 while employed at CERN in Switzerland.
Web pages are primarily text documents formatted and annotated with Hypertext Markup Language (HTML). In addition to formatted text, web pages may contain images, video, and software components that are rendered in the user's web browser as coherent pages of multimedia content. Embedded hyperlinks permit users to navigate between web pages. Multiple web pages with a common theme, a common domain name, or both, may be called a website. Website content can largely be provided by the publisher, or interactive where users contribute content or the content depends upon the user or their actions. Websites may be mostly informative, primarily for entertainment, or largely for commercial purposes.
The Web of Things (WoT) is a term used to describe approaches, software architectural styles and programming patterns that allow real-world objects to be part of the World Wide Web. Similarly to what the Web (Application Layer) is to the Internet (Network Layer), the Web of Things provides an Application Layer that simplifies the creation of Internet of Things applications.
Rather than re-inventing completely new standards, the Web of Things reuses existing and well-known Web standards used in the programmable Web (e.g., REST, HTTP, JSON), semantic Web (e.g., JSON-LD, Microdata, etc.), the real-time Web (e.g., Websockets) and the social Web (e.g., oauth or social networks).
Research in the Web of Things usually considers things in the broad sense of physical objects. Things can include (but is not limited to) tagged objects (RFID, NFC, QR codes, Barcodes, Image Recognition) to Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN), machines, vehicles and consumer electronics.
Things or The Things may refer to:

A draft for the overall architecture can be found here. The building blocks are described in the Current Practices document and include: the W3C Thing Description to provide the data and interaction as well as metadata for things, a Scripting API for portable apps to augment physical devices or instantiate virtual things on hubs or the cloud, and multiple protocol bindings. The Web of Things Architecture: leveraging the power of the Web to build the IoT Everyone talks about the Internet of Things, but the lack of interoperability in the IoT today means what we really have is a series of isolated "Intranets of Things". This fragmentation and the high costs of integration show we are failing to realize the full potential of the IoT. Just like the Internet needed the Web to become successful, the Internet of Things needs an application layer to truly blossom. The Web of Things (WoT) approach offers a compelling solution to this problem. The core of the Web of Things approach is quite simple: why don't we re-use Web standards to build the APIs of Things?
