Rookies (manga)

Rookies (ルーキーズ, Rūkīzu) is a Japanese shōnen manga written and illustrated by Masanori Morita. The series was featured on Weekly Shōnen Jump during its original run from 1998 to 2003. The series was licensed for release in France by Edition Tonkam and in Italy by Star Comics, where it was featured in the magazine Express. Rookies had previously been published in Taiwan by Da Ran Culture, but the company went bankrupt and Tong Li Publishing picked up the license. The manga has been adapted into a television series which was broadcast on Tokyo Broadcasting System between April 19, 2008 and July 26, 2008. The series was later released on DVD by TC Entertainment, and the soundtrack released on June 28, 2008. The finale of the TV series was in the form of a film, called Rookies: Graduation (Rｏｏｋｉｅｓ－卒業－, Rookies -Sotsugyō) which premiered on Japanese cinemas on May 31, 2009.

Rookies is the story of an amateur teacher, Koichi Kawato, who is faced with the challenge of guiding a high school baseball club composed of delinquents. The students are wary of him and often threaten Kawato, but he refuses to abandon them and continuously speaks highly of recognizing their dreams. Eventually, the team is assembled and they dedicate their time to achieve their dream of going to the Koshien.

Manga (漫画, Manga) are comics created in Japan, or by creators in the Japanese language, conforming to a style developed in Japan in the late 19th century. They have a long and complex pre-history in earlier Japanese art.

The term manga (kanji: 漫画; hiragana: まんが; katakana: マンガ;  listen ; English /ˈmæŋɡə/ or /ˈmɑːŋɡə/) is a Japanese word referring both to comics and cartooning. "Manga" as a term used outside Japan refers specifically to comics originally published in Japan.

Manga (magazine)

Manga magazine, formerly known as Takuhai, is a free quarterly magazine published by Tokyopop, which gives preview chapters of a selection of the company's new manga titles, as well as fan art, interviews, and short articles. The magazine is intended as a publicity vehicle, similar to Tokyopop Sneaks, free preview compilations of Tokyopop titles. It was first published in the summer of 2005, and readers can subscribe to the magazine through Tokyopop's official website. The magazine's original title, Takuhai meant "home delivery" in Japanese, but this was changed when Tokyopop discovered that many readers were accessing it through bookstores, comic stores, and newsstands.

The magazine has two parts, each with its own cover page. The front half is read left-to-right, while the back half is read in Japanese style, right-to-left. Manga also includes an online issue with completely different material to the printed publication, and which is updated every month.

History of the channel

AB Cartoons was launched in 1996 as a youth channel on the AB Sat package. It showed Japanese animation (anime) already shown on Club Dorothée on TF1.

Due to the popularity of the genre with young adults and teens, and criticism of the violence shown in the programmes, the channel was renamed Mangas, on 1 September 1998 using the logo of the magazine D.MANGAS (the former Dorothée Magazine, although the show on TF1 had ended in 1997).

Programmes

The programming is mostly classic reruns bought from the Club Dorothée era, such as Fist of the North Star, Ranma ½, Moero! Top Striker and Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z. However, the channel also shows original programming such as One Piece and Wolf's Rain shown in the original version...etc

A rookie is a person in his or her first year of a sport, or someone who is new to a profession, training or activity such as a rookie police officer, rookie pilot, a recruit, or occasionally a freshman.

In some sports there are traditions in which rookies must do things or tricks are played on them. Some examples in baseball include players having to dress up in very strange costumes, or getting hit in the face with a cream pie; a traditional rookie's "hazing" procedure in American football involves taping players to a goalpost and dousing them with ice water, Gatorade, and other substances.

In NASCAR, rookies are denoted by a yellow stripe on the rear bumper of the car that is placed on both sides of the name or symbol of the manufacturer of the car.

Baseball

In order to qualify as a rookie in Major League Baseball, a player has to have had fewer than 130 at bats or fifty innings pitched in the majors, and also fewer than 45 days on the active rosters of major league clubs (excluding time on the disabled list or any time after rosters are expanded on September 1) in their previous seasons. Major League Baseball awards the best rookie with the Major League Baseball Rookie of the Year Award, as voted upon by the Baseball Writers' Association of America.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars is an American 3D CGI animated television series created by Lucasfilm Animation, Lucasfilm Animation Singapore and CGCG Inc. On August 15, 2008 the Star Wars: The Clone Wars film was released in theaters; it served as the official pilot episode and the introduction of the series. The series made its debut on the American Cartoon Network on October 3, 2008. It is set in the fictional Star Wars galaxy, during the same time period as the previous 2003 Star Wars: Clone Wars series. The show itself takes place during the three-year interim between Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones and Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. Each episode has a running time of 22 minutes, to fill a half-hour time slot. Star Wars creator George Lucas originally claimed that "there [would] be at least 100 episodes produced".

On March 11, 2013, Lucasfilm announced that Star Wars: The Clone Wars would be "winding down," effectively canceling the series as Lucasfilm ended its contract with Cartoon Network, following its acquisition by Disney. The unreleased episodes that had already been produced are referred to as "bonus content." On January 16, 2014, the German television network Super RTL announced their plans to air the "bonus content" as a sixth season, which would consist of 13 episodes. Season 6, along with the other seasons and the feature film, were made available on Netflix on March 7, 2014.
