VEHICLES ON ROAD STORY: Living in the shadows of the Huasheng Jiangquan factory, residents of Yaowangya village say the emissions belched out by the steel, aluminium and ceramics producer next door have polluted the air and drinking water. Village life now revolves around one small well, the source of what the residents say is their only safe water for human consumption. "You can't drink the water, the water's undrinkable," said local resident Mr Yi. "The water supply is already unusable, take a look, all we can drink is this. This is ground water, we had to (drill) down to it, we can't use the tap water," added another resident, Zhao Benting. Located in provincial-level city, Linyi, the village is a typical illustration of the fallout from a growth at all costs economic model that saw factories polluting unchecked for years.
