Act for the planet
Adopt an eco-friendly attitude and preserve the planet through simple gestures and concrete actions
Descale your water heater
If you notice that your water is hard, equip your water heater with a suitable resistance or have it descaled and drained every 2 or 3 years. This will help to optimize its energy consumption.
Install reflective panels behind radiators
On non-insulated walls, you can improve the performance of your radiator by 5 to 10% by installing reflective panels behind your heater.
Insulate hot water pipes
Insulate the water tank and the hot water pipes when they are in unheated places. With these tips, , you can reduce your hot water consumption by 10%.
Regularly dust the radiators
Think about dusting your hydraulic or electric radiators. Dust reduces their performance. By dusting your devices, you can save up to 10% of energy.
In winter, let the windows wide open for five minutes per day
If you leave your window half open for a long time, air will not be renewed while the heating power consumption will increase by 16%. To correctly ventilate the rooms of your house in winter, simply open the windows for five minutes per day.
I use cold water to do the dishes
When the utensils are not greasy or very dirty, it is unnecessary to use hot water to wash them. Opt for cold water to do the dishes whenever it is possible.
I let the mixer tap in cold water position
When turning off the mixer tap after use, have the systematic reflex of leaving it in cold water position. This ecogesture allows in the long run avoiding the unnecessary use of hot water.
I opt for low-flow toilets
Low-flow toilets allow saving 20 liters per flush. These new devices offer the same performance as a toilet bowl with a big reservoir while allowing the saving of important amount of drinking water.
Turn off the water while using soap
Every day, we wash our hands several times. Turning off water while soaping them down allows us saving up to 50% of water at every use.
Put the curtains away from the radiator
If you positioned your heater under the window, always keep a space between the radiator and the curtains. This will maximize the performance of your heater while reducing the consumption of electricity.
Turn off your water heater when you travel
To avoid a useless consumption of electricity, it is recommended to unplug the water heater when you are away for more than 4 days.
Improve the insulation of your house
To improve the insulation is to guarantee a better life comfort and energy saving. Well-insulated building needs less time to be air conditioned. It has also the advantage to keep the inside temperature stable even after turning the AC off.
Unplug your charger after use
A plugged charger consumes electricity even when it is not charging a device. When you are done charging the batteries of your phone or camera, unplug the charger and completely remove it from the power outlet.
Use the stairs instead of the elevator
Using the stairs is not only good for the environment but also for your health. Whenever it is possible, avoid the systematic use of elevators and rather opt for the stairs.
Use an organic sunscreen
It is proven! Sunscreens are very dangerous for marine and aquatic ecosystems. You can protect yourself from the sun, without polluting the environment and this through the use of organic sunscreens.
Avoid using coffee capsules
Coffee capsules are composed of a mixture of aluminum, plastic and paper, which makes them very difficult to recycle. Minimize the use of capsules’ machines and favor the traditional coffee. This helps to limit the pollution caused by this industry.
Opt for eco-responsible solutions when you wash your car
Today, it is possible to wash your car without water, as there are cleaning products that are made of natural elements and essential oils. You only have to spray your car and rub it with a micro-fiber fabric.
Fully fill your washing machine
For laundry, adopt the habit of fully fill your washing machine at every use. You can also opt for a short or economic cycle to better save water and electricity.
Defrost your food in the open air
In the kitchen, favor open air defrosting than using the microwave. This allows you to save energy and preserve the quality of products such as vegetables.
Defrost your fridge regularly
To save up to 30% of the power consumption of your fridge, defrost before the ice reaches 3 mm.
Limit your meat consumption
To "produce" 1 kg of meat, we need much time and area than is needed to produce 160 kg of potatoes. This is also the equivalent of an everyday shower for 1 year. To help limit the negative impact of farming, try to consume meat with moderation.
Do not throw away your medications in the trash
In spite of the low concentration of chemical compounds, drugs thrown in nature (garbage, toilets ...) can be harmful when they seep into the water system. The impact of this type of pollution can change the certain ecosystems. The best procedure is to give your medications back to a pharmacist with or without package; the suppling company will take over ridding them through the use of suitable methods.
Limit your use of plastic products
Plastic materials are in our daily lives, they derive from the petrochemical industry which is one of the most polluting in the world. While shopping choose products having less packaging and opt for reusable and durable products instead of plastic ones.
Reduce the use of paper
Reducing the use of paper as much as possible help fighting deforestation. When buying a product made of paper select paper produced from forests that are managed sustainably.
Do not use your car consistently
Don’t use your car for all kinds of trips. When you can, give precedence to walking, using sustainable mobility such as cycling or public transports like tramway. Non-electric cars use fuel derived from fossil fuels which produce polluting gases in order to run. When the trip, the time and the availability of alternative transportation allow it, leaving your car in your garage is an eco-citizen attitude.
Turn off and unplug the devices on standby mode
Devices on standby mode consume a lot of energy and sometimes even if they are turned off they continue to consume electricity while they are plugged. Turning the devices off or unplugging them after use contribute to fighting wasteful energy consumption and reducing the electricity bill.
Take a shower instead of having a bath
Opting for showers rather than baths allows a significant saving in potable water, since on average a bath can consume from 120 to 250 liters of water while bathing needs only from 20 to 60 liters.
