Heathrow Airport (IATA: LHR, ICAO: EGLL) is a major international airport in west London, England. Heathrow is the busiest airport in the United Kingdom, busiest airport in Europe by passenger traffic, and sixth busiest airport in the world by total passenger traffic. In 2014, it handled a record 73.4 million passengers, a 1.4 percent increase from 2013.
Heathrow lies 12 nautical miles (22 km; 14 mi) west of Central London, and has two parallel east–west runways along with four operational terminals on a site that covers 12.14 square kilometres (4.69 sq mi). The airport is owned and operated by Heathrow Airport Holdings, which itself is owned by FGP TopCo Limited, an international consortium led by the Spanish Ferrovial Group that includes Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec and Government of Singapore Investment Corporation. Heathrow is the primary hub for British Airways and the primary operating base for Virgin Atlantic.
In September 2012, the UK government established the Airports Commission, an independent commission chaired by Sir Howard Davies to examine various options for increasing capacity at UK airports. The commission shortlisted two options for expanding Heathrow in its interim report in 2013, along with a third option for expanding Gatwick Airport. The final report, published on 1 July 2015, backed a third runway at Heathrow.
The Boeing 747 is a wide-body commercial jet airliner and cargo aircraft, often referred to by its original nickname, Jumbo Jet, or Queen of the Skies. Its distinctive "hump" upper deck along the forward part of the aircraft makes it among the world's most recognizable aircraft, and it was the first wide-body produced. Manufactured by Boeing's Commercial Airplane unit in the United States, the original version of the 747 had two and a half times greater capacity than the Boeing 707, one of the common large commercial aircraft of the 1960s. First flown commercially in 1970, the 747 held the passenger capacity record for 37 years.
The four-engine 747 uses a double deck configuration for part of its length. It is available in passenger, freighter and other versions. Boeing designed the 747's hump-like upper deck to serve as a first class lounge or extra seating, and to allow the aircraft to be easily converted to a cargo carrier by removing seats and installing a front cargo door. Boeing did so because the company expected supersonic airliners (development of which was announced in the early 1960s) to render the 747 and other subsonic airliners obsolete, while the demand for subsonic cargo aircraft would be robust well into the future. The 747 was expected to become obsolete after 400 were sold, but it exceeded critics' expectations with production passing the 1,000 mark in 1993. By January 2016, 1,520 aircraft had been built, with 19 of the 747-8 variants remaining on order.
An airport is an aerodrome with facilities for flights to take off and land. Airports often have facilities to store and maintain aircraft, and a control tower. An airport consists of a landing area, which comprises an aerially accessible open space including at least one operationally active surface such as a runway for a plane to take off or a helipad, and often includes adjacent utility buildings such as control towers, hangars and terminals. Larger airports may have fixed base operator services, airport aprons, air traffic control centres, passenger facilities such as restaurants and lounges, and emergency services.
An airport with a helipad for rotorcraft but no runway is called a heliport. An airport for use by seaplanes and amphibious aircraft is called a seaplane base. Such a base typically includes a stretch of open water for takeoffs and landings, and seaplane docks for tying-up.
An international airport has additional facilities for customs and immigration.
In warfare, airports can become the focus of intense fighting, for example the Battle of Tripoli Airport or the Battle for Donetsk Airport, both taking place in 2014. An airport primarily for military use is called an airbase or air station.

Well firstly, should I say I finally achieved one of my goals for a long time - Getting a compilation under the hour mark, this time clocking in at 49 mins, huge contrast to the 90 min vids I've been doing lately. Filmed on the 18/07/16, the day before the hottest day of the year so far in Britain, with temperatures on the 18th reaching 28 celsius at Heathrow, the following day 33 celsius was recorded - That's hot for us! The video is filmed between 4:30-09:00, sadly as I was setting up the First arrival of the day, a BA A380 landed, so I didn't manage to catch this one, but I got the second arrival onwards. All of which are heavies excluding 3 - The early morning arrival of Air Canada's A319 from St John's, a KLM 737-900 in Skyteam livery and an Austrian A321 aborting landing (Previous...
A flight from London to New York gets cancelled and the passengers need to be rebooked, border forces are searching for money and the weather causes havoc at the airport. Featured planes: Boeing 737, Boeing 747, Boeing 767, Boeing 777, Airbus A319, Airbus A320, Airbus A321, Airbus A330, Airbus A340 This is my first video from London Heathrow. This video shows how short the distances between approaching planes at LHR are. The planes look like small bees coming back to their nest. Especially the Boeing 747 was shook around by some crosswinds on final approach. Thanks for watching and I hope you like it. Finally managed to get back up to Heathrow, a well due trip to catch some new visitors and aircraft! A very hazy evening to say the least, I'm afraid. Surprisingly enough, it was 12 degrees, however the heat distortion was the thickest I've ever seen it! I do apologise for that, really nothing I could do sadly. Anyhow, a mild Spring evening here at Heathrow, a few clouds in sight, but the sun being strong enough to penetrate and cause enough brigntness, and result in a nice golden sky towards sunset. Plenty of heavies about. I didn't film too many narrow bodies this time to reduce the length of the video, but I did get a few, particularly the interesting ones I did catch a few new visitors in particular. The Flybe Dash 8 Q400's, China Eastern 777 and most importantly the Korean Air 747-8...

Here it is, our pilot episode! Why am I doing this? I travel a lot. Too much. And recently I find myself rocking up in a city that I've never been to before and know very little about. On any level. Culture, language, transport, money, food, etc. But most travel shows are an hour-long, US-centric, full of bad information, and almost exclusively aimed at tourists. In our pilot episode we get you in, out, and around the wonderful city of London, England. We tell you the best way to get from the airport into the city, the best way to get around, how much things cost, and why you should ALWAYS stand on the right. How to get from Heathrow airport to London using public transport London Heathrow Airport (LHR) is one of the world's busiest international airports. It is located 20 miles (32km) to the west of London. One of the first challenges I encounter when travelling is how to get from the airport to the city. In this video I'll show you how to travel from the airport to London? This short documentary explains that there are two main ways to get to London from Heathrow, the tube (Metro or Underground) and the Heathrow Express. Terminal 1 2 3 4 5 are all connected by trains. For this video I opted to use the Heathrow Express (https://www.heathrowexpress.com) which takes 15 minutes to Paddington Station in 15 minutes for 35 pounds. Upon arrival at one of the Heathrow terminals and exiting the lug...
