You might be like my friends, who thought that the computer mouse was invented at PARC, Xerox's R&D; lab.
It wasn't.
Instead the computer mouse was invented by Douglas Engelbart at SRI International and, in the mother of all demos, showed it, and a number of other key features of computing that we all know like windows and hypertext, off in December, 1968.
Since then SRI International, which employs 1,700 researchers, has been busy on a number of things from radar, ultrasound imaging, remote surgery, and much more. It has also been incubating a few things that have turned into startups. My favorite example is Siri, which is an assistant for your iPhone. Apple bought that last year for a rumored $200+ million and I've been hearing rumors that we'll see some of that work as part of the iPhone 5 launch later this year. More about Siri later.
I wondered "what is SRI International" up to now and do they have anything interesting cooking that could turn into another interesting startup?
That led to this tour, where Norman Winarsky, VP of Ventures at SRI, and Bill Mark, VP of Information Sciences Division at SRI, introduce me to many of the people who work there and show me around many of its most interesting labs.
Because this tour was so extensive, I've split it up into separate videos so you can watch what you're interested in and get a sense of just how many diverse projects this influential R&D; lab is. At the end you can listen into the venture capitalists who funded Siri and hear about the process that company went through during its acquisition by Apple.

SRI International
SRI International (SRI) is an American nonprofit research institute headquartered in Menlo Park, California. The trustees of Stanford University established SRI in 1946 as a center of innovation to support economic development in the region.
The organization was founded as the Stanford Research Institute. SRI formally separated from Stanford University in 1970 and became known as SRI International in 1977. SRI describes its mission as creating world-changing solutions to make people safer, healthier, and more productive. International
International mostly means something (a company, language, or organization) involving more than a single country. The term international as a word means involvement of, interaction between or encompassing more than one nation, or generally beyond national boundaries. For example, international law, which is applied by more than one country and usually everywhere on Earth, and international language which is a language spoken by residents of more than one country.
Origin of the word
The term international was coined by the utilitarian philosopher Jeremy Bentham in his Introduction to Principles of Morals and Legislation, which was printed for publication in 1780 and published in 1789. Bentham wrote: "The word international, it must be acknowledged, is a new one; though, it is hoped, sufficiently analogous and intelligible. It is calculated to express, in a more significant way, the branch of law which goes commonly under the name of the law of nations. International Tour
The International Tour was the fifth concert tour by American rock band Linkin Park. It was launched in support of Linkin Park's third studio album Minutes to Midnight (2007) and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. The tour was announced in June 22, 2009 at the Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen premiere outside of Mann's Village Theater where the band performed a show in support of the film. The tour featured special guests like Funeral for a Friend and Coheed and Cambria. The tour was sponsored by MTV.
Background
The tour started with Rock'n Coke show at Istanbul on July 19, 2009. The band played with bands like Kaiser Chiefs, Razorlight, Hayko Cepkin, maNga vs. Cartel, Cold War Kids and D2. The duration of the tour was 35 days long and included a span of 17 shows all over the world. It was a tour of Turkey, Greece, Austria, Finland, Russia, Switzerland, Germany and various other countries. The tour ended in United States. The last show played was entitled as Epicenter '09, where the band played with various artists like Tool, Alice In Chains, Wolfmother, Atreyu, Hollywood Undead and Street Sweeper Social Club.

SRI LANKA TOURIST GUIDE - #4 of 12
For my forth country of the year, I flew over to Sri Lanka, starting in the capital, Colombo. After a day on the road, I found myself in the stunning surroundings of Dambulla, where I wasted no time in trekking the Sri Lankan jungle. We then spent some time in Sigiriya, relaxing in the Jetwing hotel and seeing elephants on safari! After another long journey up to the North of the country, we spent a week on the beaches of Trincomalee, where we saw dolphins, whales and I indulged in a spot of jetskiing. But before going home, I had to experience one of the most famous Sri Lankan delicacies, it's tea, in Kandy. Day 1: Bandaranaike Airport to Kandy
Day 2-4: We stayed in Kandy and visited the Temple of the Tooth, Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage and Sygiria (this was a day trip).
Day 5: Kandy to Nuwara Eliya and did White Water Rafting at Kitulgala (AM) vistited the Blue Field Tea Factory (PM) enroute.
Day 6: Nuwara Eliya to Ella. We woke up early to walk on the Horton Plains and see World's End before continuing our journey by train in the Observation Car to Ella (I highly recommend this trip!).
Day 7: Ella to Yala National Park with a safari in the afternoon.
Day 8: Yala to Tangalla
Day 8-10: Beach in Tangalla
Day 11: Tangalla to Mirissa
Day 12: Mirissa to Unawatuna
Day 13-14: Unawatuna
Day 15: Unawatuna to Galle
Day 16: Fly Home!

Our international airport here in nairobi also gets tourists who have no idea which tour company is taking care of them so the taxi drivers at the airport are also our target whereby when they bring clients we shall give them a commission based on the package the clients are taking.
So it is a noble idea but the financial part to implement it is a problem.Am passionate about it because i have worked in the hospitality industry all my life so at least i got experience and the know how.

You love gorging on all those Thai curries. Why not visit the place and experience one for real? The air-fares to Thailand are cheap and the stay options are not too expensive. The people are welcoming and you can get great stuff at budget prices. If you can't do the entire nation, visit just a few key locations during your trip.
3. Hawaii
The most expensive part of this trip would perhaps be airfares. Hawaii is all about the sun, the sand and the surf. You can lose yourself in the exotic locations with crystal clear beaches and coral reefs that will make you do a double-take underwater.
4. Vietnam
Not viewed as a touristy destination by many Indians, Vietnam is a gem of a place. It has everything from rugged sceneries in the Northern regions to certain tropical islands. You will also get to eat a lot of weird and exotic food, especially different types of sea-foods. The entire trip should not cost you too much if you decide to ditch high-end hotels and opt for cheaper homestays.
5. Cambodia
Famous mainly for Angkor Wat, there's a lot more to Cambodia than just the heritage site. The little villages will afford you a glimpse into the Cambodian lifestyle and there are even mountains to scale for the adventurous traveler.
6. Maldives

Because there are loads of beautiful cities and countries in the world that Indians can visit on a budget of less than Rs 70,000. No, it isn't April already and we aren't kidding. But let's start 2015 on a trippy note?
1. Seychelles
This exotic island in the Indian Ocean is still not commercial, and is unknown to many Indians. A perfect retreat for the beach loving Indian, a trip to Seychelles will not set you back by more than Rs 50-60,000. Though August is considered the best time to visit the place, you can visit it at other times in the year and get cheaper rates too.

You love gorging on all those Thai curries. Why not visit the place and experience one for real? The air-fares to Thailand are cheap and the stay options are not too expensive. The glory of medieval Sri Lanka is seen at Polonnaruwa, the mediaeval capital of the Island. An ancient and compact city, Polonnaruwa features 12th-century stone sculptures and the Gal Vihara – comprising three enormous Buddha figures, one reclining (it’s 13 m long), one standing and one sitting. The statues, located in a cluster along a dirt road, are revered as being amongst the most sacred monuments in Sri Lanka. There are also palace ruins, great bas-reliefs and friezes.

The Hill Capital of Kandy was the last bastion of the Sinhala kings and is a charming city offering a living record of a magnificent past and is set around an attractive man-made lake in scenic hill country. It is also the site of Sri Lanka’s greatest annual spectacle, the Esala Perahera festival in August, also known as the Festival of the Moon when thousands of people from all parts of the country and from foreign countries throng to the Hill Capital to witness the magnificent spectacle.

Located atop a rock plateau overlooking verdant jungle and a vast plain is Sigiriya, the mysterious remains of the 5th-century fortress of King Kasyapa. These ruins of Sigiriya are the most unique of the ancient sites in Sri Lanka. Be sure to brave the rickety-looking spiral staircase to see the awesome 1500-year old painted frescoes located beneath an overhang about 90m up the rock. This archaeological site, unparalleled in South Asia, is a place of pilgrimage for Sri Lankans and has been declared a World Heritage Site.

Sri Lanka’s cool hill country offers a welcome antidote to the heat of the coast and low-lying plains. Situated amongst verdant tea plantations and at an elevation of 1990 m, Nuwara Eliya is one of the highest and most attractive towns in Sri Lanka’s hill region. Built by English tea growers, it remained their favourite hill station during colonial times. Nuwara Eliya boasts the best golf course in Sri Lanka and is home to the impressive Hakgala Botanical Gardens.

You might be like my friends, who thought that the computer mouse was invented at PARC, Xerox's R&D; lab. It wasn't. Instead the computer mouse was invented by Douglas Engelbart at SRI International and, in the mother of all demos, showed it, and a number of other key features of computing that we all know like windows and hypertext, off in December, 1968. Since then SRI International, which employs 1,700 researchers, has been busy on a number of things from radar, ultrasound imaging, remote surgery, and much more.
