The UK Modern Slavery Act: A model for Australia to follow?

There are an estimated 45.8 million people around the world living in modern slavery.  Modern slavery affects every country, and for many large businesses – their supply chains. The UK Modern Slavery Act 2015 is being viewed as a ground-breaking model for action by governments, particularly in relation to requiring transparency and reporting by companies on their supply chains.
The Australian Government has launched a Joint Parliamentary Committee Inquiry into whether Australia should follow the UK lead and adopt an Australian Modern Slavery Act.
