Steven Universe is an American animated television series created by Rebecca Sugar for Cartoon Network. It is the coming-of-age story of a young boy named Steven, who grows up in the town of Beach City living with three magical humanoid aliens, the "Crystal Gems" Garnet, Amethyst, and Pearl. Steven, who is half-Gem, goes on adventures with his friends and helps the Gems protect the world from their own kind. Sugar developed the series while working as a storyboard artist on Adventure Time, and it premiered on November 4, 2013 as Cartoon Network's first series to be created by a woman.
The series has received critical acclaim, being praised for its art design, music, voice acting, and complex characterization and science-fiction worldbuilding. It was nominated for an Emmy Award and five Annie Awards. Steven Universe was renewed for a third season in 2015. Companion books, comics, and a video game based on it have also been released.

Does your day sometimes get hijacked by someone else's agenda?Have you ever said "yes" simply to please and then resented it? If you answered yes to any of these, the way out is the Way of the Essentialist. The Way of the Essentialist involves doing less, but better, so you can make the highest possible contribution. The Way of the Essentialist isn't about getting more done in less time. It's not about getting less done. It's about getting only the right things done. It's about challenging the core assumption of 'we can have it all' and 'I have to do everything' and replacing it with the pursuit of 'the right thing, in the right way, at the right time'. Greg Gage is on a mission to make brain science accessible to all. In this fun, kind of creepy demo, the neuroscientist and TED Senior Fellow uses a simple, inexpensive DIY kit to take away the free will of an audience member. Father Gregory Boyle, founder and executive director of Homeboy Industries, is an acknowledged expert on gangs, intervention and re-entry and today serves on the U.S. Attorney General's Defending Childhood Task Force. Born in Los Angeles, one of eight children, Fr. Greg worked in the family-owned dairy, loading milk trucks to earn his high school tuition. An enduring memory of that youthful time is when "...these weathered old truckers would come up to me, put their arms around me and point at my father in the distance, on the loading dock, and say, 'Your dad is a great man.'" Lessons from that first job apply at Homeboy Industries today where employees come to change for themselves and their children. Homeboy Industries traces its roots to "Jobs For A Future" (JFF), created in 1988 by Boy...

Dr. Greger visited Google NYC to discuss his new book - How Not to Die. The vast majority of premature deaths can be prevented through simple changes in diet and lifestyle. In How Not to Die, Dr. Michael Greger, the internationally-recognized lecturer, physician, and founder of NutritionFacts.org, examines the fifteen top causes of death in America—heart disease, various cancers, diabetes, Parkinson’s, high blood pressure, and more—and explains how nutritional and lifestyle interventions can sometimes trump prescription pills and other pharmaceutical and surgical approaches, freeing us to live healthier lives. The simple truth is that most doctors are good at treating acute illnesses but bad at preventing chronic disease. The 15 leading causes of death claim the lives of 1.6 million Amer...

Watch Greg Young's talk "CQRS and Event Sourcing" from Code on the Beach 2014 at One Ocean Resort & Spa, Atlantic Beach, Florida. Saturday, August 9, 2014. www.codeonthebeach.com Abstract: "Looking at mature domains it is odd that almost none have a concept of current state but instead are built off a set of facts that occurred; is your bank balance a column in a table? This is not by accident and there are many benefits to having this viewpoint of a system both from a business and a technological viewpoint. In this talk we will look at what cqrs (command and query responsibility segregation) and event sourcing are."
Music is one of the elements that can keep games alive in players’ memories for a long time. However, the process of music production can be problematic when a director and a composer confront. Based on collected experience, the speech will begin with a short analysis of where the issues might come from. I will present suggestions what, how and when to tell the composer and what to avoid during conversations. Each form of communication will be presented with pros and cons. Important elements of the speech will be music examples played throughout and interaction with the audience – there will appear questions to the viewers and getting suggestions from them.
