Star Wars is an American epic space opera franchise, centered on a film series created by George Lucas. It depicts the adventures of various characters "a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away".
The first film in the series, Star Wars (later subtitled Episode IV: A New Hope), was released on May 25, 1977 by 20th Century Fox and became a worldwide pop culture phenomenon. It was followed by the similarly successful sequels The Empire Strikes Back (1980) and Return of the Jedi (1983); these three films constitute the original Star Wars trilogy. A prequel trilogy was later released between 1999 and 2005, which received a more mixed reaction from critics and fans, compared to the original trilogy. All seven films were nominated for or won Academy Awards, and were commercial successes, with a combined box office revenue of $4.38 billion, making Star Wars the fourth highest-grossing film series. The series has spawned an extensive media franchise—the Star Wars expanded universe—including books, television series, computer and video games, and comic books, resulting in significant development of the series's fictional universe. Star Wars also holds a Guinness World Records title for the "Most successful film merchandising franchise." In 2012, the total value of the Star Wars franchise was estimated at USD $30.7 billion, including box-office receipts as well as profits from their video games and DVD sales.
Grand Moff Wilhuff Tarkin, also known as Governor Tarkin, is a fictional character in the Star Wars universe, first portrayed by Peter Cushing in the original film. The character has been called "one of the most formidable villains in Star Wars history."
Introduced in the film Star Wars, the first film in the original Star Wars trilogy, Grand Moff Tarkin is the Governor of the Imperial Outland Regions, and commander of the Death Star. After the Emperor dissolves the Galactic Senate, Tarkin and Darth Vader are charged with pursuing and destroying the Rebel Alliance. He threatens Princess Leia Organa with the destruction of the planet Alderaan if Leia does not reveal the location of the Rebel main base of operations. When Leia names the planet Dantooine as the base's location, he destroys Alderaan anyway, hoping to make an example out of the planet's support of the Rebellion. Upon learning that Leia's coerced information was false, Tarkin orders Leia's execution.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, or simply Rogue One, is an upcoming American epic space opera film directed by Gareth Edwards and written by Gary Whitta and Chris Weitz, from an idea by visual effects supervisor John Knoll. It will be the first film in the Star Wars Anthology series, a collection of stand-alone stories set in the Star Wars universe, and will star Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Riz Ahmed, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Jiang Wen, Forest Whitaker, Mads Mikkelsen, and Alan Tudyk. Set shortly before the events of Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope (1977), the story will center on a group of Rebel spies on a mission to steal the plans for the Empire's new weapon, the Death Star.
The film is produced by Lucasfilm and will be distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. Principal photography began at Elstree Studios, near London during early August 2015. Rogue One will be released on December 16, 2016, one year after the franchise's latest film, Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015).

We finally see the Death Star in action as it displays its incredible power to blow up planets. Such a campy, yet classic sort-of Sci-Fi concept. Grand Moff Tarkin shows what a devilish snake he can be. We also get to be mused by Princess Leia's awkward British accent, as this is the only scene where she has one. Star Wars Blu-ray 2011
Grand Moff Wilhuff Tarkin, the Imperial Governor of the Outer Rim, lands at the Imperial Complex on the planet Lothal. Upon arrival, he was greeted by Minister Maketh Tua, who was surprised to learn of his visit. Tarkin then proceeded to reprimand her for failing to protect Imperial industrial interests. He then castigated Agent Kallus for allowing a rebel cell to flourish on Lothal. In response, Kallus told Tarkin that he had exhausted every resource to capture them. When Tua informed Tarkin that the rebel leader was a Jedi, the Grand Moff mocked the Grand Inquisitor's incompetence. He also expressed doubt that the rebel leader was a Jedi and asserted that the Jedi had all died. Tarkin then vowed to capture "this criminal" and prove that he was not a Jedi.
