Stephen Post (January 3, 1810 – December 18, 1879) was an early member of the Latter Day Saint movement who became President of Sidney Rigdon's Church of Jesus Christ of the Children of Zion after Rigdon's death in 1876.
Post converted to Joseph Smith's Church of the Latter Day Saints in Pennsylvania in 1835, and obtained his license to preach in Kirtland, Ohio, in 1836, becoming a member of the Second Quorum of the Seventy. By July 1837, he estimated that he had "traveled 544 miles and preached forty-three sermons." After Smith's martyrdom in 1844 precipitated a succession crisis in the church, Post initially demurred from affiliating with any of the resulting sects, instead continuing to preach as an independent believer. In 1850, he briefly joined James Strang's Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, within which his younger brother Warren became an apostle, but he soon became disenchanted with Strang's practice of plural marriage and left the church.
In January 1856, Post wrote to Sidney Rigdon, Smith's former counselor, about the disordered state of Mormonism. Rigdon had briefly led his own church following Smith's martyrdom, but it had collapsed in 1848. In March, Rigdon responded to Post's letter with a revelation commanding him to assist in reestablishing the Rigdonite organization. Post eagerly embraced Rigdon's prophetic claims and became an able advocate of his cause, with an 1866 revelation designating him Rigdon's "spokesman." Post's non-Mormon wife, Jane, converted to the Rigdonite church in 1865 and was ordained an elder in 1868.
Stephen or Steven /ˈstiːvən/ is a masculine first name, derived from the Greek name Στέφανος (Stéfanos), in turn from the Greek word "στέφανος", meaning "wreath, crown, honour, reward", literally "that which surrounds or encompasses". In ancient Greece, a wreath was given to the winner of a contest (from which the crown, symbol of rulers derived). The use of the noun was first recorded in Homer's Iliad. The name is significant to Christians: according to the Book of Acts in the New Testament, Saint Stephen was a deacon who was stoned to death and is regarded as the first Christian martyr. The name has many variants, which include Stephan, Stevan, Stefan and Stevon.
In Middle English, the name Stephen or Stephan was pronounced as a bi-syllabic word — Step-hen or Step-han — much like a Scandinavian surname. Steve was pronounced as it is in Modern English. This etymological usage began a decline in the mid-19th century.
Steve is the common short form, while various diminutives such as Stevie and Ste are also used. Many family names are derived from Stephen: the most common are Stephens/Stevens and Stephenson/Stevenson (others include Stephen, Stephan, Staphan, Stefan, Stevin and Stever).

Post is a researcher, public speaker, professor, and best-selling author who has taught at the University of Chicago Medical School, Fordham University-Marymount, Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine (1988-2008) and Stony Brook University School of Medicine (2008-). He is best known for his research and popular presentations on the health benefits of helping others, on the practice of compassionate care and its impact on patients, on sources of meaning in caring for the "deeply forgetful," on how youth who follow the Golden Rule live happier and more resilient lives, and on the nature and origins of selfless love. He is an elected member of the College of Physicians of Philadelphia, the New York Academy of Medicine, and the Royal Society of Medicine, London. He is a member of the Editorial Board of Character Strengths and Virtues, the handbook and classification of Positive Psychology. Post served as Senior Research Fellow in the Becket Institute at St. Hugh's College at Oxford University, and was selected as the Public Member of the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) Composite Committee (2000-2005).
Using Norman Rockwell’s iconic “The Golden Rule” as backdrop, and drawing on his recent research on the health benefits of helping others (increased happiness, ability to cope with loss, lowered anxiety and stress), Post underscores how in the most difficult of times empathy and kindness benefit the giver as much as the receiver. Stephen G. And yes, our research has shown that the benefits are significant. So, for example, in one national survey Americans were asked if they volunteered in 2009. So this was a study that began in 2010 so it was looking back a year. Forty-one percent of Americans had volunteered an average of about 100 hours a year which is only two hours a week roughly. Professor Stephen Post is well known for his writings on the health benefits of helping others. In this video, he walks us through the many reasons why practicing forgiveness can be both therapeutic and rejuvenating. After all, studies show that people who show a proclivity to hostile emotions tend to die earlier due to heart failure. That's why the James Lang Theory of Emotions posits the emotional and physiological benefits of small acts of kindness. Agape (aka “Unlimited Love”) is not “bestowed,” but is rather is a “recognition” of the image of God in every human being regardless of condition. I will develop the theological idea of our being temples of God’s spirit, and offer a set of classical Christian ideas about the eternal soul as the basis of dignity and worth. I will argue that no form of materialism (even so-called “nonreductive physicalism”) can sustain a robust concept or practice of agape love because no matter how nuanced, the idea that the eternal human soul is entirely derived from cells, tissue, and brain matter makes the human being nothing more than what the atheist Bertrand Russell referred to as complex “pond scum” devoid of an eternal dimension. I will offer a counterpoint not just to what Sorokin called sensate ma...
